Isolated screw fixation of posterior wall fractures.

INTRODUCTION: Posterior wall (PW) fractures are common acetabular fractures and are most often treated by open reduction and internal fixation. The gold-standard of surgical stabilization is screw fixation of large wall fragments with additional buttress plating. Some reports focussed on screw fixation alone presenting adequate results. MATERIAL AND METHODS: From a total of 208 PW-fracture treated between 1972 and 2008, 57 patients were identified with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) using isolated screw fixation. These patients were analyzed regarding demographical data (patient

Outcomes of Displaced Greater Tuberosity Fractures Treated with Screw Fixation and Double Row Suture Bridge Technique.

INTRODUCTION: Closed treatment of comminuted, displaced greater tuberosity fractures (GTFs) can result in nonunion or malunion, causing rotator cuff dysfunction and/or subacromial impingement. This study evaluates the outcomes and complications of combined suture anchor and screw fixation technique for the treatment of GTFs. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective case series included 13 patients with displaced GTFs (> 5 mm) who underwent screw and double-row suture bridge fixation from 2019 to 2024 at a single institution. Patient demographics, injury mechanisms, fracture characteristics,

Intramedullary fixation of forearm fractures with new locked nail.

BACKGROUND: Lack of availability of interlocked nails made plate osteosynthesis the first choice of treatment of forearm fractures inspite of more surgical exposure, periosteal stripping and big skin incision subsequent scar along with higher risk of refracture on implant removal. We hereby report the first 12 cases with 19 forearm bone fractures internally fixed by indegenous interlocked nail. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Existing square nails were modified to have a broad proximal end of 5.5 mm with a hole for locking screw of 2.5 mm. The nail has a distal hole of 1/1.2/1.5 mm in 2.5/3/3.5 mm dia

The Free Distal Clavicle Osteochondral Flap: Cadaveric Dissection and Case Report to Introduce a Novel Technique.

Vascularized osteochondral flap reconstruction is an innovation with several potential benefits, but there are limited described autologous donor site options. This study explores the distal clavicle as a viable donor site for vascularized free osteochondral tissue transfer. Cadaveric dissection was performed in which a 39-year-old male with a comminuted fracture of the right distal humerus underwent open reduction and internal fixation. The patient later presented with avascular necrosis of the lateral column of the distal humerus and right trochlea and underwent reconstruction of the distal

Suspected paradoxical undressing in a homicide case.

Paradoxical undressing is a phenomenon associated with fatalities due to severe hypothermia, which is characterized by the act of active undressing, despite low ambient temperatures, as a consequence of peripheral vasodilation. A 51-year-old man was found lying naked and inanimate on a road. Articles of his clothing were scattered in surrounding bushes. A nearby handrail showed a partially washed away bloodstain pattern. A forensic autopsy was used to distinguish whether death was due to a hypothermic fatality or whether the deceased was a victim of an accident or homicide. Medicolegal autopsy

Lateral subtalar dislocation associated with bimalleolar fracture: case report and literature review.

Subtalar dislocation is an uncommon injury that affects the talocalcaneal and talonavicular joints, with the tibiotalar and calcaneocuboid joints remaining intact. The 4 types of subtalar dislocation are medial, lateral, anterior, and posterior, although the latter 2 are rare. These injuries-especially lateral dislocation-occur as a result of high-energy trauma. Medial dislocation is the most common type, and lateral dislocation is associated with osteochondral fractures of the talus and calcaneus, as well as with open injuries; hence, its worse prognosis. We report the case of a 62-year-old w

Bridge Plate Design Effects on Yield and Fatigue in Distal Radius Fracture Model.

Background  Bridge plating for distal radius fractures is indicated for complex fractures with comminution, extensive articular involvement, and/or cases requiring immediate weight bearing. Bridge plate fixation of distal radius fractures is a well-documented treatment method; however, failures have been reported with repetitive loading through the bridged distal radius fracture. Plate design is implicated as a cause of plate fracture in select clinical studies but few mechanical tests comparing bridge plate designs have been reported. This study sought to determine the impact of plate design

Open reduction and internal fixation of posterior wall fractures of the acetabulum.

The results of 94 patients with posterior wall fractures of the acetabulum associated with hip instability treated within 3 weeks of injury by open reduction and internal fixation were reviewed. Patients were followed up for an average of 3.5 years (range, 1-13 years). Fracture reductions were graded as anatomic (0-1 mm displacement) in 92 patients and imperfect (2-3 mm displacement) in two patients, as determined by plain radiography. However, postoperative computed tomography scans obtained in 59 patients revealed incongruency of more than 2 mm in six patients and fracture gaps of 2 mm or mo
