Single-tooth replacement in the anterior maxilla by means of immediate implantation and early loading: clinical and aesthetic results at 5 years.

BACKGROUND: The hypothesis of the present study was that the early loading of single implants-supported restorations, replacing single extracting teeth in the anterior region of the maxilla in case of fresh extraction sockets with residual hard and soft tissue preservation, could be a successful procedure. METHODS: Twenty-one implants were placed into maxillary anterior fresh extraction sockets using a flapless technique. Temporary restorations, which were fabricated from the impression taken immediately after implant placement, were connected within 2 weeks. These temporary restorations were

In vitro peroxide penetration into the pulp chamber from newer bleaching products.

AIM: To investigate peroxide penetration from newer bleaching products into the pulp chamber. METHODOLOGY: Fifty extracted human maxillary central incisor teeth were separated into five groups (n = 10). All the teeth were sectioned 3 mm apical to the cemento-enamel junction; the intracoronal pulp tissue was removed, and the pulp chamber filled with acetate buffer. Buccal crown surfaces of teeth in the experimental groups were subjected to either a whitening strip (containing 5.3% hydrogen peroxide-G1) or one of three paint-on liquid whiteners (containing 19% sodium percarbonate peroxide-G2, 1

Federal University of Santa Catarina follow-up management routine for traumatized primary teeth -- part 1.

The objective of this study was to verify if the follow-up management routine of traumatized primary teeth set up by Federal University of Santa Catarina, which performs clinical and radiographic assessments (15 and 45 days; 4, 8 and 12 months) after the oral trauma, enabled an early diagnosis of sequelae which would indicate the need for endodontic intervention, as well as the influence a type of trauma and the child's age could have in the severity of the sequelae. In this study 52 sets of records were used of patients being seen in the last 6 months, with a total of 70 teeth that were recei

[Calcium hydroxide and treatment of inflammatory inter-radicular bone resorption of non-vital deciduous molars].

On non-vital deciduous molars, inter-radicular bone resorption is often an indication of extraction. The endodontic treatment of these teeth by means of zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) paste also showed its limits. To mitigate the deficiencies of this material, we suggested a preliminary treatment by means of calcium hydroxide (Ca(OH)2) for its anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties as well as its ability to stimulate calcified tissues apposition or remineralisation. This study concerns 21 non-vital deciduous molars. X-rays excluded any lesion of the underlying permanent bony crypt (bone tissue)

Caries and periodontal disease in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD) has been associated with aging, reduced fine motor skills, and malnutrition caused by eating soft sticky foods and a decreased liquid intake, which may contribute to the onset of caries, periodontal disease, and tooth loss. The objective of this study was to investigate the oral health of 101 patients with PD (mean age: 66.2 ± 10.5 years) and compare them to 75 control subjects (CO) (mean age 71 ± 10.53). Patients with PD had poorer oral health than the control group (papilla bleeding index: PD 6.97 ± 8.34; CO 2.12 ± 2.73). Lower frequencies of daily toothbrushing (PD:

Minimally-invasive, full-mouth rehabilitation using an Er,Cr:YSGG laser and CAD/CAM technology.

The use of erbium, chromium: yttrium-scandium-gallium-garnet (Er,Cr:YSGG) lasers and CAD/CAM technology in dentistry is becoming more accepted and prevalent. Using these two technologies together, full-mouth dental reconstruction was attempted to evaluate their effectiveness. The authors prepared all remaining maxillary and mandibular teeth without the use of a dental drill or an anesthetic; fabrication and insertion of the 28 all-ceramic CAD/CAM restorations were completed in two appointments. When used appropriately, practitioners can combine Er,Cr:YSGG losers and CAD/CAM technology to deliv

Treatment and posttreatment dentoalveolar changes following intrusion of mandibular molars with application of a skeletal anchorage system (SAS) for open bite correction.

The skeletal anchorage system (SAS) consists of titanium anchor plates and monocortical screws that are temporarily implanted in either the maxilla or the mandible as absolute orthodontic anchorage. With SAS, anterior open bite can be improved by the counterclockwise rotation of the mandible, accompanied by the intrusion of molars. The present study was designed to evaluate treatment and posttreatment dentoalveolar changes following the intrusion of mandibular molars. Nine adult open bite patients (7 women and 2 men) successfully treated with SAS were included in the following study. The amoun
