Overview of Leak-Off Test and Formation Integrity Test: Test Interpretation and Pitfalls.

Formation strength tests, such as formation integrity test (FIT), leak-off test (LOT), and extended leak-off test (XLOT), are crucial for maintaining wellbore stability. Wellbore stability issues are the main reason for nonproductive time (NPT) especially in the drilling operation. Therefore, it is important to understand the stresses around the wellbore to better interpret the formation strength tests. These tests are carried out to (i) test the casing shoe strength, (ii) estimate the minimum horizontal stress, (iii) derive the maximum horizontal stress, and (iv) estimate the fracture pressur

Effect of forefoot transverse arch stiffness on foot biomechanical response--based on finite element method.

BACKGROUND: The plantar vault, comprising the transverse and longitudinal arches of the human foot, is essential for impact absorption, elastic energy storage, and propulsion. Recent research underscores the importance of the transverse arch, contributing over 40% to midfoot stiffness. This study aimed to quantify biomechanical responses in the ankle-foot complex by varying the stiffness of the deep metatarsal transverse ligament (DTML). METHODS: Using CT image reconstruction, we constructed a complex three-dimensional finite element model of the foot and ankle joint complex, accounting for g

Effects of gait training with auditory biofeedback on biomechanics and talar cartilage characteristics in individuals with chronic ankle instability: A randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Altered walking gait is a typical impairment following ankle sprains which may increase susceptibility to recurring injuries and development of posttraumatic osteoarthritis at the ankle. There is a lack of targeted gait training interventions focusing on specific modifications in individuals with chronic ankle instability (CAI). Additionally, there is a need to focus on cartilage health changes following gait training to mitigate osteoarthritis progression. RESEARCH QUESTION: To determine the immediate and retention effects of gait training using auditory biofeedback (AudFB) in pa

Acromegaly and non-parathyroid hormone-dependent hypercalcemia: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Hypercalcemia associated with acromegaly is mostly parathyroid hormone (PTH)-dependent, being caused by parathyroid hyperplasia or adenoma, which are common in individuals with multiple endocrine adenomatosis-1 (MEN-1). The rare occurrence of non-PTH-dependent hypercalcemia associated with acromegaly is attributable to complex factors involving increased intestinal calcium absorption, enhanced bone calcium release, and reduced urinary calcium elimination. Although patients with acromegaly often have mild hyperphosphatemia and hypercalciuria, clinically significant hypercalcemia is

Transcranial direct current stimulation enhances foot sole somatosensation when standing in older adults.

Foot-sole somatosensation is critical for safe mobility in older adults. Somatosensation arises when afferent input activates a neural network that includes the primary somatosensory cortex. Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS), as a strategy to increase somatosensory cortical excitability, may, therefore, enhance foot-sole somatosensation. We hypothesized that a single session of tDCS would improve foot-sole somatosensation, and thus mobility, in older adults. Twenty healthy older adults completed this randomized, double-blinded, cross-over study consisting of two visits separated b

Pathology and management of flexible flat foot in children.

We describe the pathology and treatment of flexible flat foot in children. The flexible flat foot is seen in the overly flexible foot and usually involves hypermobility of the subtalar joint. It typically occurs in childhood and may continue to adulthood. The arch develops spontaneously during the first decade of life in most children and comes within the normal range observed in adult feet. We prescribed orthoses for the treatment of flexible flat foot patients. Lateral weight-bearing radiographs and ultrasonography were helpful for the evaluation of the flat foot. Bleck recommended the UCBL

Weight-bearing recommendations after operative fracture treatment-fact or fiction? Gait results with and feasibility of a dynamic, continuous pedobarography insole.

PURPOSE: Rehabilitation after lower-extremity fractures is based on the physicians' recommendation for non-, partial-, or full weight-bearing. Clinical studies rely on this assumption, but continuous compliance or objective loading rates are unknown. The purpose of this study was to determine the compliance to weight-bearing recommendations by introducing a novel, pedobarography system continuously registering postoperative ground forces into ankle, tibial shaft and proximal femur fracture aftercare and test its feasibility for this purpose. METHODS: In this prospective, observational study,
