BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: The effect of adjustable suture strabismus surgery techniques on the ease of the postoperative adjustment has not been determined. An in vitro animal model was developed to compare several intraoperative variables with the ability to adjust the sutures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The amount of force required to advance and recess the suture was measured using different sutures, suture coatings, needles, and scleral tunnel techniques.
RESULTS: Scleral tunnels placed at an angle to the muscle insertion caused significantly greater scleral resistance as compared with tunne

Epidermal suture knots can cause discomfort, skin irritation, and an increased risk for infection. We describe a hybrid suture method that combines elements of traditional simple interrupted and retention sutures with a layer of sterile, absorbent rolled gauze or a dental roll placed beneath the suture knots. This inexpensive method promotes a cleaner and more stable wound-healing environment, enhances patient comfort, simplifies postoperative wound care, and reduces complications such as necrosis and infection.

BACKGROUND: Postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) remains among the 5 main causes of maternal death in developing and developed countries, and uterine atony is the most common cause (75-90%) of primary PPH. Uterine compression sutures running through the full thickness of both uterine walls (posterior as well as anterior) have recently been described for surgical management of atonic PPH. Christopher B-Lynch was the first to highlight this revolutionary principle, and other uterine compression suture techniques have since been described by Hayman and Cho.
OBJECTIVES: Step-by-step description of the B-L

A randomized controlled trial was designed to assess the effectiveness of two alar base cinch techniques on the changes in nasolabial morphology after bimaxillary orthognathic surgery. Sixty patients requiring a Le Fort I osteotomy to correct skeletal discrepancies were selected randomly to receive either conventional or modified alar base cinching during the intraoral wound closure procedure. Conventional cinching passed through nasalis muscle and anterior nasal spine. Modified cinching also passed through dermis tissue to increase the anchorage. Postoperative hard and soft tissue changes wer

OBJECTIVE: The first objective of the present study was to evaluate the tensile strength and elongation to failure of commonly used suture materials in oral surgery. As a secondary objective, it was aimed to make a comparison between two different suture techniques within the same suture materials.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Eight different suture materials with 3-0 gauge (silk, polytetrafluoroethylene, polypropylene, polyester, polyglactin 910, polyglycolic acid, poliglecaprone 25, polydioxanone) underwent tensile testing for maximum load of failure and elongation rate. All strands were tied by

Subscapularis tendon injuries often pose substantial challenges in arthroscopic repair, with traditional techniques frequently limited by prolonged surgical time, uneven tension distribution, and increased complication risk. Although advanced suture-passing and suturing methods can improve biomechanical outcomes, they generally require complex instrumentation. A hybrid approach is presented here that integrates a continuous sewing machine-like suture technique with a single-portal spinal needle method for subscapularis repair. The sewing machine-like technique facilitates efficient loop format

Translational research using animal models is essential for addressing the clinical issues in organ transplantations. Although mouse orthotopic liver transplantation (LT) is a useful tool for investigating the mechanisms of liver regeneration, ischemia-reperfusion injury, and immune responses following LT, technical challenges in this procedure restrict its feasibility. The key aspects for successful mouse orthotopic LT are vascular reconstruction in recipients, including the suprahepatic inferior vena cava (SHIVC), portal vein (PV), and infrahepatic inferior vena cava (IHIVC). In addition to

Effective suturing remains key to achieving successful outcomes in corneal surgery, especially anterior lamellar keratoplasty and full thickness transplantation. Limitations in the technique may result in complications such as wound leak, infection, or high astigmatism post corneal graft. By using a systematic approach, this study reviews articles and conducts content analysis based on update 2020 PRISMA (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses criteria). The aim of this paper is to summarize the state of the art of corneal suturing techniques for every type of corne

As a result of solicited muscles, strong friction, and tensile force on cutaneous tissue, the difference in closure procedure and management strategies and complications of surgical incision healing is a real challenge in lumbar spine surgery. We performed a retrospective study to compare different types of wound closure in lumbar spine surgery. 4383 patients were included in this study. Wound dehiscence was more common in the intracutaneous suture group than in the far- near-near-far suture group. Delayed wound healing occurred more in the far-near near-far suture group than intracutaneous su

BACKGROUND: Blepharoplasty has become one of the most popular plastic surgery techniques for generating double-eyelid folds. The mini-incision blepharoplasty technique results in minimal trauma and the formation of supratarsal folds.
METHODS: In this study, the authors combined mini-incisions with interrupted buried sutures. To perform the blepharoplasty procedure, the authors marked the supratarsal folds and divided them into 5 line segments: 3 cutting lines and 2 noncutting lines. For the cutting lines, the authors used orbicularis-tarsus fixation to form double eyelids and only removed a s

PURPOSE: The tension-band principle might be relevant to extensor tendon repairs, and a dorsal-only Silfverskiöld epitendinous repair is stronger and stiffer than more conventional techniques in vitro. We aimed to evaluate the strength and stiffness of the strongest epitendinous sutures described, using an in vitro model that subjects the repair to angular force over a pulley, thereby creating a tension-band model.
METHODS: Silfverskiöld dorsal-only epitendinous extensor tendon repairs in porcine foot tendons (n = 8) were compared to reverse (buried) Silfverskiöld (n = 8), Halsted (n = 8), an

The authors describe briefly the design and method of working with a special suturing instrument in formation of an extraperitoneal anastomosis by a modification of Swenson's operation in children suffering from developmental anomalies of the large intestine. The instrument ensures one-stage stitching of the intestine along its entire circumference before its resection. The anastomosis is formed four times more rapidly and the manipulation is more aseptic. Eight children were operated on with the use of the instrument and no complications occurred.

BACKGROUND: Silicone stents are commonly employed to treat subglottic stenosis. A frequent complication is the tendency of stents to migrate. As such, various techniques to secure stents have been developed over the years, none of which have gained large popularity. We present a novel, low-cost, and easy-to-perform technique herein.
OBJECTIVES: To describe a novel surgical technique to secure silicone stents and prevent migration for management of subglottic stenosis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: After standard excision and dilation of stenotic portions in the subglottic or trachea. A silicone ste

This study describes practical needle handling techniques for endonasal endoscopic surgery, focusing on controlled suturing movements adapted to incision orientation and anatomical constraints. Emphasis is placed on single-motion needle advancement, proper reorientation, and precise force application, particularly for skull base suturing where tactile feedback is limited. These techniques enable reliable and efficient closure in endoscopic surgery without the need for specialized instruments.

OBJECTIVES: The surgical anatomy of the nasal tip is determined by intrinsic factors, such as the nasal tip volume, shape, definition, and symmetry. These factors are intimately related to the morphology of the lower lateral cartilages. Tip sutures reduce the need for grafts and allow the surgeon to manipulate the tip with a high degree of precision and better long-term clinical outcomes. In this review, we evaluated common nasal tip suture techniques to clarify the similarities and differences among them.
METHODS: The following nasal tip suture techniques were investigated: medial crural fix

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Foker's technique allows esophageal lengthening facilitating end to end anastomosis in long gap esophageal atresia. The problem faced with this technique is that the traction sutures cut through the tissues leading to re-operations. Our aim was to find a technique of suturing that will prevent the sutures from cutting through the esophagus.
METHODS: After dissection of the upper and lower esophageal pouches, purse string sutures were placed, two each on both pouches. Clips were applied at the ends of both the pouches. Sutures were brought out on the posterior chest wall an

The "buckled" or severely deviated nasal septum has resisted a variety of techniques devised for its correction. This paper will present a new technique which the author has found useful in many of these cases. This method utilizes in reverse the procedure popularized by Mustardé for managing the protruding ear. Instead of bending the cartilage into a harmonious shape, the bent cartilage is straightened with submucosal permanent sutures. The paper will illustrate this technique.

Laparoscopic hysterectomy is a commonly performed procedure. However, one high-risk complication is vaginal cuff dehiscence. Currently, there is no standardization regarding thread material or suturing technique for vaginal cuff closure. Therefore, this study aimed to compare extracorporeal and intracorporeal suturing techniques for vaginal cuff closure using a pelvic trainer model. Eighteen experts in laparoscopic surgery performed vaginal cuff closures with interrupted sutures using intracorporeal knotting, extracorporeal knotting and continuous, unidirectional barbed sutures. While using an

Partial nephrectomy has become the preferred treatment option for small renal masses. In particular, minimally invasive partial nephrectomy (MIPN) using laparoscopic or robotic approaches has shown decreased blood loss, shorter hospital stay, and faster return to normal activity compared to open surgery. However, MIPN still carries risk of postoperative complications including hemorrhage and urine leakage. Closure of the renal remnant, often called renorrhaphy, is a critical step to avoid these complications. The purpose of the study was to provide quantitative data on suture properties during
