This article reports the treatment and 5-year follow-up of an 80-year-old female with a history of severe osteoporosis and chronic polyarthritis. Treatment included methotrixate disodium and acemetacin. After the last tooth was removed from the mandible, the patient was successfully treated with a fixed mandibular prosthesis supported by 6 implants placed between the mental foramina. One hundred and twenty-six patients underwent a mandibular resection (segmental or marginal) as a part in the treatment of a malignant lesion. The surgical morbidity is increased by the preoperative high-dose irradiation. Diagnosis of mandibular fracture is usually obvious, but may in unclear cases require several imagings. Even a fracture with good position will require follow-up. Treatment can usually be conducted systematically within the following day. Surgical treatment has become more common, with a fortunately rare need for intermaxillary fixation. Severe cases require several operations, e.g., osteotomies and bone transplantations. The patient's nutrition must be taken into consideration. Treatment of dental injuries is especially lengthy and involves expensive implants and prosthetics.

Mandibular condyle fracture malunion and tooth loss can cause functional and esthetic problems. A patient with restricted mouth opening associated with muscle atrophy required prosthetic rehabilitation.
