The specificity and sensitivity of adult and larval somatic antigens, and perienteric fluid of Toxocara canis and Ascaris suum were investigated by using intradermal skin tests in guinea pigs. These animals were infected with low doses (0.01, 0.1 or 1.0 egg/g) of these helminths. Intradermal tests using histoplasmin and paracoccidioidin antigens were performed in 138 persons from Pereiro, Ceará, Brazil. The results were positive in 61.5% and 32.5% with histoplasmin and paracoccidioidin antigens respectively. These results suggest infection by H. capsulatum and P. brasiliensis in the people living in the studied area. New studies are necessary to detect histoplasmosis and paracoccidioidomycosis as clinical diseases in that region.

We report a case of a 64-year-old woman treated with meglumine antimoniate (Glucantime®). On day 20, she developed fever, a pruriginous skin rash and myalgia. The blood tests showed eosinophilia and hepatic cytolysis. The clinico-biological picture improved gradually and the symptoms disappeared 4 weeks after the drug withdrawal. A rare case of anaphylaxis to iodinated contrast media is reported. The patient underwent two anaphylactic shocks to intravenous administration of radiocontrast agents. Specific IgE were suspected on the basis of positivity of intradermal tests and human basophil degranulation tests. A series of 65 patients with different autoimmune diseases was examined using different RNA-solutions for intradermal skin tests. Clinically positive results were obtained most often in patients with mixed connective tissue disease but quite often also in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus and progressive systemic sclerosis or with some symptoms of an automimmune nature. The histological examination of the biopsies from the test sites revealed that there was no correlation between the clinically positive tests and the histological criteria usually used as a sign of a positive test.

Five cases of cerebral paragonimiasis presenting with hemianopsia, convulsion, and gait disturbance are discussed. The cases were all in the chronic stage. The intradermal paragonimiasis reaction, complement fixation, and Ouchterlony tests were not useful for diagnosis.
