WASH-friendly schools for whom? Integrating the perception of different school stakeholders in Brazil.

Ensuring that schools are water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) friendly requires WASH to be visibly implemented, inclusive and sustainable, engaging the entire school community, including direct and indirect stakeholders (school staff, students and their families). However, students, staff, and parents are often overlooked in the design of WASH solutions. This study aims to contrast different school stakeholders' perspectives on WASH and evaluate the extent to which the Human Right to Water and Sanitation (HRtWS) and its normative contents are being realized in schools within the basic educati

Using the socioecological model to guide service delivery improvements to the prison needle exchange program in Canada: insights from multi-level stakeholders.

BACKGROUND: In 2018-2019, Canada introduced a Prison Needle Exchange Program (PNEP) across nine federal facilities to mitigate the harms associated with drug injection among incarcerated people. However, program uptake has been limited. We explored the barriers and facilitators to improving PNEP services among key stakeholders in prison. METHODS: Stakeholders in nine federal prisons with active PNEP participated in focus groups using nominal group technique to achieve rapid consensus. Responses were generated, rank-ordered, and prioritized by each stakeholder group (correctional officers, hea

Roles played by Locally Elected Representatives in Facilitating Multi-Sectoral Action for Health: Evidence from Kerala, India.

Background: Multi-Sectoral Action (MSA) for health involves the collaboration of various stakeholder groups within and beyond the health sector and is seen to be critical for the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals. In Kerala, India, decentralisation reforms have been in place for some time, and we sought to characterise the roles specifically played by locally elected representatives or Local Self-Government (LSG) members, in relation to MSA. Methods: Between July and October 2021, we conducted in-depth interviews with 80 participants from four districts in the southern Indian sta

Advancing the women's health strategy: a policy lab aimed at improving effective management of hyperemesis gravidarum.

BACKGROUND: Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) is associated with morbidity and mortality which can be exacerbated by difficulties accessing guideline-recommended treatment. Improving outcomes for women with HG through policy and practice fulfils the vision of the Women's Health Strategy for England. We aimed to align with the Women's Health Strategy by addressing barriers to evidence-based care and to improve effective management of HG. METHODS: A Policy Lab was held in Central London in February 2023 guided by the King's Policy Institute eight-step process for delivery. RESULTS: The Policy lab br

Codesigning a Neurocognitive Assessment Protocol for Hyperphagia: Perspectives From Stakeholders in Prader-Willi Syndrome.

BACKGROUND: Hyperphagia-characterized by an overwhelming drive to consume food-is a core feature of Prader-Willi syndrome (PWS) that profoundly impacts individuals and families. Objective measures of hyperphagia are urgently needed to support therapeutic development and improve clinical outcomes for individuals with PWS. Eye tracking may offer a scalable, noninvasive method for capturing attentional responses to food cues. By capturing visual attentional responses to food before and after eating, eye tracking may offer an indirect, objective method for assessing impairments in satiety that are

Priorities for child and adolescent health in Europe and Central Asia: insights to inform regional strategy from a multi-stakeholder survey.

BACKGROUND: Childhood and adolescence (0-19 years) is a critical time for laying the foundations for life-long good health and well-being. To support the development of the new World Health Organization (WHO) and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) European Regional Strategy for Child and Adolescent Health and Well-being, we undertook a European Region-wide survey of representatives of Member States (MS), child health professionals (CHPs), and adolescents to determine priority areas for action. METHODS: Stakeholders participated via structured online questionnaires in which they rated

Ethics, design, and implementation criteria of digital assistive technologies for people with dementia from a multiple stakeholder perspective: a qualitative study.

BACKGROUND: Dementia impairs the ability of people with dementia to be autonomous and independent. They need support from third parties, who should ideally respect their autonomy and independence as much as possible. Supporting people with dementia can be very burdensome for caregivers and numbers of patients increase while numbers of potential caregivers decline. Digital assistive technologies (DATs) that directly support patients or their caregivers may help bridging the increasing gap between need of support and available resources. DATs have the potential to preserve the autonomy and indep

Research priorities for progressive pulmonary fibrosis in the UK.

INTRODUCTION: Health research bodies recommend patient involvement and engagement in research and healthcare planning, although their implementation is not yet widespread. This deficiency extends to progressive pulmonary fibrosis (PPF), where crucial aspects remain unknown, including causal mechanisms, curative treatments and optimal symptom management. This study addresses these gaps by seeking stakeholders' perspectives to guide research and treatment directions. METHOD: A priority-setting partnership was established to explore stakeholders' priorities in the diagnosis, treatment, managemen

Civilian-military malaria outbreak response in Thailand: an example of multi-stakeholder engagement for malaria elimination.

BACKGROUND: In April 2017, the Thai Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) was alerted to a potential malaria outbreak among civilians and military personnel in Sisaket Province, a highly forested area bordering Cambodia. The objective of this study was to present findings from the joint civilian-military outbreak response. METHODS: A mixed-methods approach was used to assess risk factors among cases reported during the 2017 Sisaket malaria outbreak. Routine malaria surveillance data from January 2013 to March 2018 obtained from public and military medical reporting systems and key informant interv
