BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Anisotropic cell elongation depends on cell wall relaxation and cellulose microfibril arrangement. The aim of this study was to characterize the molecular function of AtDICE1 encoding a novel transmembrane protein involved in anisotropic cell elongation in Arabidopsis.
METHODS: Phenotypic characterizations of transgenic Arabidopsis plants mis-regulating AtDICE1 expression with different pharmacological treatments were made, and biochemical, cell biological and transcriptome analyses were performed.

Hepatomegaly is a common feature of hereditary nephropathic cystinosis but is rarely associated with symptoms of liver disease. Long, virus-like rods were discovered in hyperplastic salivary glands of Glossina pallidipes Austen from Kibwezi Forest (2 degrees 27' S, 37 degrees 55' E), Kenya. We report a case of phenytoin induced lymph node enlargement with changes in both the lymph nodes and bone marrow suggestive of T-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. The condition resolved after phenytoin withdrawal and the patient has no evidence of disease on bone marrow biopsy 15 months later.

To describe the natural history of HIV-associated salivary gland disease, which is characterized by enlarged major salivary glands and/or xerostomia in HIV-infected persons, we assessed 22 patients at an initial and follow-up examinations (median span of examinations, 15 months). Plasma cell gingivitis (PCG) is a diagnostic dilemma for clinicians. It is also referred to as atypical gingivostomatitis, idiopathic gingivostomatitis, allergic gingivostomatitis, and plasma cell gingivostomatitis which are characterized by bright fiery red gingiva with spontaneous bleeding on slight provocation. It is often confused with inflammatory gingival enlargement, erythematosus lichen planus, and other lesions.
