The Associations of Mean Glucose and Time in Range from Continuous Glucose Monitoring with HbA1c in Adults with Type 2 Diabetes.

Associations of mean glucose and time in range (70-180 mg/dL) from continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) with HbA1c in adults with type 2 diabetes are not well characterized. We conducted a secondary analysis of 186 participants from the Hyperglycemic Profiles in Obstructive Sleep Apnea (HYPNOS) trial. Participants simultaneously wore Dexcom G4 and Abbott Libre Pro CGM sensors up to 4 weeks. Mean HbA1c was 7.7% (SD, 1.3). There were strong negative Pearson's correlations of HbA1c with CGM time in range (-0.79, Abbott; -0.81, Dexcom) and strong positive correlations with CGM mean glucose (Dexcom,…

Continuous glucose monitor use with and without remote monitoring in pregnant women with type 1 diabetes: A pilot study.

BACKGROUND: To examine whether continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) with remote monitoring by followers (family/friends) changes glucose management, follower interventions, and health outcomes compared to CGM alone in pregnant women with diabetes. METHODS: We prospectively stratified first trimester pregnant women with Type 1 Diabetes to CGM Share (remote monitoring) or CGM Alone. We enrolled a main follower per woman. We retrospectively acquired data for pregnant women who did not use CGM (no CGM). We compared hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) between groups. We compared sensor glucose, follower interve…

Daytime physical activity and nighttime glucose levels in individuals with pregnancy hyperglycemia: linking wearable activity trackers to continuous glucose monitoring.

INTRODUCTION: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) offers a unique opportunity to assess Q6 glucose patterns across the 24-hour day, including nighttime. In individuals with pregnancy hyperglycemia, evidence suggests that optimizing nocturnal glucose levels reduces the risk of large-for-gestational-age births and future metabolic dysfunction. However, the behavioral correlates of nocturnal glucose levels remain poorly understood. Continuous movement devices assess physical activity (PA) and sedentary behavior (SED) across 24-hour days, and to the best of our knowledge, have not been paired with…

Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) for effective glucose control in a pregnant woman living with type IIIa glycogenosis. A case report.

BACKGROUND & AIMS: Glycogenosis type III is a rare autosomal recessive disease caused by a mutation in the AGL gene that results in a deficiency of the glycogen debranching enzyme. This deficiency impairs fasting tolerance and leads to hypoglycemia. While the symptomatology tends to improve with age, pregnancy can trigger a recurrence of hypoglycemia due to increased carbohydrate requirements. Since the late 1990s, continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has been used in insulin-dependent diabetes to aid in the prevention of hypoglycemia. It has also been employed in type I glycogenosis for the sa…

Continuous Glucose Monitoring Data Compression Using Peak-Nadir Encoding in Diabetes: Method Development and Evaluation.

BACKGROUND: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) generates high-frequency time-series data, creating challenges for efficient storage, transmission, and analysis. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to develop and evaluate a CGM-specific compression method that achieves high compression ratios while preserving signal fidelity and clinically relevant glycemic metrics. METHODS: We introduce a content-based encoding approach (PN+) that represents CGM profiles using physiologically salient landmarks: glucose peaks and nadirs and a small set of optimally selected support points. Reconstruction is performe…

Continuous glucose monitoring in non-insulin-dependent type-2 diabetes - rationale for CGM-NIDDM study.

Type-2 diabetes is treated by general practitioners and diabetologists in a stepwise manner with an emphasis on lifestyle modifications. Glucose monitoring is mandatory to gauge the effect of lifestyle modifications or medical therapies in order to identify the need for therapy escalation, if treatment goals are not met. To date, three-monthly hemoglobin A1c measurements have been conducted for this purpose in the majority of non-insulin-dependent type-2 diabetes patients in Germany. Here, we review the role of continuous glucose monitoring in combination with nutrition counseling to offer a b…

Clinical Trials in Diabetes: Examining the Value of Use of Continuous Dual Glucose-Ketone Monitoring.

Severe diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) is a critical medical condition that often necessitates emergency treatment and hospitalization. Although DKA primarily impacts individuals with type 1 diabetes (T1D), its annual incidence among adults with T1D ranges from 4% to 8% following diagnosis. Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has become a standard tool for managing T1D and type 2 diabetes (T2D) in patients using insulin or aiming to improve self-management. However, advances in continuous dual glucose-ketone monitoring (DGK) technology offer new possibilities for clinical research and patient care…
