The novel three-component reaction of isoquinoline with isothiocyanates and isocyanides leads to a variety of new imidazoisoquinolines. The zwitterionic ground state of these new ring systems is established by means of NMR and X-ray analysis. Use of phthalazine instead of isoquinoline gives access to imidazole annulated phthalazines.

The routes feature an asymmetric crotylation using a propargylic dicobalt hexacarbonyl complex, which provided enhanced diastereoselectivity over the uncomplexed propargylic acetal. The bisthiazole fragment was united with the side chain through a Stille cross-coupling of a terminal (E)-vinylstannane with a 4-trifloyl-substituted thiazole.

Weinreb amides were successfully prepared from the corresponding carboxylic acids using 4-(4,6-dimethoxy-1,3,5-triazin-2-yl)-4-methylmorpholinium chloride (DMT-MM) in the solvents, methanol, isopropyl alcohol, and acetonitrile, which can solubilize DMT-MM. A variety of carboxylic acids were converted to the corresponding Weinreb amides in excellent yields by simply mixing with DMT-MM and N,O-dimethylhydroxylamine hydrochloride.

The key step is the tandem cyanide conjugate addition-Dieckmann condensation of alkyne 17 to afford a fully functionalized anthracene. Reinecke salt and alizarin S have been tested as reagents for the determination of promazine. They react in neutral and acidic media with promazine forming a reddish and brown crystalline compounds. Two simple, rapid and sensitive spectrophotometric methods have been proposed for the determination of vanadium(V) using butaperazine dimaleate (BPD) and propionyl promazine phosphate (PPP). These methods are based on the formation of red-colored radical cations on reaction with vanadium(V) in phosphoric acid medium, with their absorbance maxima at 513 nm. Adsorption of four 5-pyrazolone derivatives and two carboxylic acids from aqueous solutions was studied. Partition coefficients for the analyzed drugs were calculated. Good corelation between log(k1, k2) (Langmuir constants) and log (octanol-water partition coefficient) of the drugs were found. The higher log(k1k2) value the higher solubility of the non-narcotic and analgetic drugs.

Studies of speed, resolution, and sensitivity indicate packed column supercritical fluid chromatography is a viable technique for the analysis of antipsychotic drugs. Fourteen such drugs (mostly phenothiazines) were studied from a cyanopropyl liquid chromatography packed column with a tertiary mobile phase of carbon dioxide, methanol, and isopropylamine. Glycosides of glucose and lactose with di- and tetraethylene glycols, transformed into bifunctional (alcohol, ester) spacer molecules, have been synthesized. We have developed a highly sensitive, two-site immunoradiometric assay (IRMA) for human parathyrin (PTH) that is specific for the intact, secreted, biologically active 84-amino-acid peptide. This study examined the stability of concentrated sodium nitroprusside infusions during administration by a motorized syringe-pump system. Sodium nitroprusside and the free-cyanide degradation product were determined in infusion samples collected over periods of up to 24 h. Measures which were taken to protect the delivery system from light, ensured satisfactory stability of the infusion for at least 12 h from the time of preparation.

A thin-layer chromatographic screening procedure for acetaminophen in serum was developed that meets the clinical need to identify candidates for antidotal therapy within the critical first 24 hr after ingestion. The key feature of this approach is the use of a detection reagent containing Fe(III) and 2,4,6-tris-(2'-pyridyl)-s-triazine (TPTZ). A rapid alternative method is presented for the determination of pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (pyridoxal-P). The method involves the colorimetric analysis of thiocyanate liberated from S-cyanohomocysteine (Hcy (CN)) in the presence of cyanide when catalyzed by the pyridoxal-P dependent enzyme, gamma-cyano-alpha-aminobutyric acid (gamma-CNabu)-synthase (Hcy (CN) thiocyano-lyase [adding CN]). The rate of formation of thiocyanate is determined by the increase in absorbance at 470 nm on treatment of the enzymatic reaction mixture with FeCl3.
