Edentulous patients with severe mandibular alveolar ridge resorption struggle with denture stability, which often reduces their quality of life due to mucosal pain and food debris retention. When the inferior alveolar canal is extremely close to the alveolar crest, conventional dentures risk causing severe pain and sensory abnormalities by compressing the inferior alveolar nerve. Thus, conventional fabrication methods face clinical limitations. To stabilize a mandibular complete denture in such cases, it is highly effective to record the dynamics of the denture space and fabricate a prosthesis

BACKGROUND: The development of endosseous implants and free vascularized bone grafting has permitted increased possibilities of oromandibular reconstruction in patients with oral cancer. In this study, a concept combining surgical and prosthodontic treatments for mandibular fibula free flap reconstruction after tumor surgery was made based on a classification of bone defects. A follow-up study was performed to evaluate the treatment concept for oral rehabilitation in order to identify possible factors which may influence the functional result.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A follow-up examination inc

BACKGROUND: The decision-making process about how to rehabilitate edentulous osseous defects in patients with head and neck cancer history can be complex. Even though, endosseous dental implants could be considered to be the first choice for treating these patients, it is highly important to be aware of the complications that might occur. The aim of this report was to describe the clinical features of mandibular fracture after dental implants placement on a cancer irradiated patient and update the available information about this event.
CASE REPORT: The case describes a 70-year-old man, with

Mandibular continuity defects can result in varying degrees of cosmetic disfigurement. Restoration of form and function may require surgical reconstruction of the affected area. While surgical reconstruction may improve the overall prognostic outcomes for the patient, the definitive prosthetic phase can commence only after a substantial time lag for adequate hard/soft tissue healing. This interim phase often challenges the patient's masticatory ability. The traditional reconstruction of hemimandibulectomy defects has its own limitations. This case report describes the fabrication of a 3D-print

Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis is a very desolating structural condition that involves fusion of the mandibular condyle to the base of the skull. It causes difficulty in mastication and breathing. Trauma and Infections are usually responsible. If trauma occurs in young age, it leads to disturbance in growth & facial asymmetry. Treatment of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis usually requires adequate excision of the involved ankylotic block (arthroplasty) or interpositional arthroplasty using autogenous or alloplastic materials. Early mobilization, physiotherapy & strict follow up

The mandibular first permanent molar is usually first to erupt around the age of six. Therefore, if the oral hygiene is not impeccable, it is usually also the first permanent tooth decayed in a child's mouth. A plethora of circumstances may lead to pulpal involvement, periapical pathosis, and endodontic treatment and in unfortunate situations, removal of this tooth. If this tooth is not replaced, or the extraction space is not retained for a considerable amount of time, the posterior occlusion will collapse. The most common occurrence is tipping of teeth in juxtaposition to the extraction site

Ectodermal dysplasias form part of a wide range of syndromes presenting abnormal development of two or more tissues derived from the ectoderm. Hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia is a congenital syndrome, characterized by hypotrichosis (hair is sparse, fine and weak; anomalies in the skin and nails), hypohidrosis (due to the paucity of sweat glands which in turn gives rise to sweat disorders) and hypodontia (partial, and occasionally total, absence of primary and/or permanent dentition). A case of a child with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia with oligodontia and marked resorption of the maxill

Computer software associated with imaging techniques facilitates diagnosis, planning, and management in cases of severe maxillary atrophy, by reducing the incidence of complications and improving the postoperative course and functional outcome. This article reports on a case of a 66-year-old woman with maxillary atrophy. Computer software was used to plan and position 6 maxillary and 4 mandibular implants, taking maximum advantage of the remaining bone. Bicorticalization was sought by angulation and implant fixation in the buttresses, while rehabilitation was carried out by means of a fixed sc

The objective of the study was to retrospectively compare the fractal size values calculated in the trabecular bone according to the type of complete removable denture, removable partial denture, and partial fixed prosthesis between patients using bisphosphonates and healthy patients, retrospectively. Panoramic radiographs of a total of 200 patients, (100 using bisphosphonates,100 control group), were taken from the right and left molar regions before and after treatment with 72 × 72 pixels. The fractal dimension (FD) was computed by using ImageJ Software using the box-counting method on the i

PURPOSE: Traumatic dislocation of the mandibular condyle into the middle cranial fossa (DMCCF) is a rare event after maxillofacial trauma. Treatment may be performed with closed or open reduction (with or without craniotomy), and arthroplasty procedures might be necessary for long-standing cases. The aims of this study were to perform an integrative review of traumatic DMCCF cases reported in an electronic database and to report a case in which cerebrospinal fluid leakage occurred after open treatment.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: The study was carried out in 2 phases. In the first part, an electron

The silicone implant has been widely used in facial aesthetic surgery for chin augmentation. A case of a 71-year-old woman with a lesion in the anterior mandibular region detected by radiographies and suggestive of benign soft tissue tumor is presented. The patient denied previous surgical intervention in the mental area. A biopsy was performed and initially interpreted as low-grade liposarcoma. After an immunohistochemistry study showing CD-68-positive cells and complementary information regarding a silicone implant for chin augmentation, the definitive diagnosis was silicone granuloma. This

Tumors of the central mandible requiring marginal mandibulectomy and floor of mouth resection require reconstruction for cosmetic and functional purposes. Numerous reconstructive techniques have been described for small-moderate sized defects of the central mandible/anterior floor of mouth. Robust local flaps have been well described; however second stage procedures are required for pedicle division. The split mentalis muscle flap is a simple, quick and low morbidity option for central mandibular defects and has been demonstrated effectively with the use of a split skin graft. We provide a mod

Cleft lip/palate is a common birth defect globally, and the impact of this condition on the dental health of affected individuals can be profound. During intricate rehabilitation of cleft lip and palate patients, the final phase is achieved with definitive prosthodontic treatment. Prosthodontic rehabilitation is often necessary due to missing teeth and the alveolar ridge, malocclusion, residual defects, and the discrepancy between maxillary and mandibular arches. This article presents a case report of a young female patient with residual post-surgical cleft palatal defect having a mobile anter

Treatment of pediatric patients with partial anodontia is a challenge requiring interdisciplinary approach. Growth period, reduced vertical dimension, microdontia, and unacceptable esthetics present difficulties at various stages of prosthetic rehabilitation. Congenital absence of teeth impairs the nutritional status of the growing child and causes a psychological setback. This article describes the prosthetic management of a patient suffering from partial anodontia done over a period of 10 years. Considering the age and psychological and financial requirements of the patient, removable and fi

Missing teeth are a common developmental abnormality in humans. It may manifest as absence of varying numbers of primary and/or secondary teeth. Early treatment and follow-up are the key to successful rehabilitation of young patients with congenitally missing teeth. It is critical that oral rehabilitation is started early to maintain and correct the oral functions. Mucosa borne removable prostheses are the commonly selected treatment options for the young patients who present with oligodontia or anodontia. This clinical report describes esthetic, functional, and psychological rehabilitation of

INTRODUCTION: Mandibular appliances are a treatment option for obstructive sleep apnea. There are many designs, but in the literature they tend to be grouped into a single entity without considering that efficiency, tolerance, compliance, or side effects are inherent in the design of each of them. A more detailed literature review is therefore warranted for the reader who wants to understand the relative effectiveness of each appliance.
STATE OF KNOWLEDGE: We conducted a literature search using the "oral appliance" and "obstructive sleep apnea" criteria on Pubmed, Embase and Cochrane. This al

PURPOSE: Tooth loss leads to reduced occlusal contact area, altered jaw biomechanics, and diminished neuromuscular coordination, impairing both masticatory function and speech clarity. Edentulous patients often adapt by modifying food choices or swallowing behavior and may experience persistent phonetic disturbances. Maximum bite force affects masticatory performance, while speech intelligibility affects patient communication. This study aimed to objectively evaluate maximum bite force and speech intelligence among completely edentulous patients rehabilitated with different types of prostheses
