We report a surgical case of active infective prosthetic biologic mitral valve endocarditis with hemodynamic deterioration with increasing obstruction of mitral valve. The patient developed rapid hemodynamic deterioration, therefore, we performed emergent re-do mitral valve replacement using SJM prosthetic valve in the setting of supra-annular position. The postoperative course was uneventful.

BACKGROUND: Periprosthetic shoulder infections are devastating complications after shoulder arthroplasty. A potential treatment concept is a two-stage prosthesis exchange. Data are sparse in terms of clinical outcome, including infection-free survival and patient satisfaction after this procedure. BACKGROUND: This prospective study investigated the role of mechanical and biological factors in aseptic implant loosening or presumed silent prosthetic joint infection (PJI).
METHODS: Thirty-seven patients were investigated. Microbiologic and molecular methods were used to detect bacteria on the surface of the failed implants removed during revision arthroplasty. Histopathologic analysis was performed. The influence of body mass index (BMI) and various co-morbidities on implant failure also was determined.

OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to systematically review and synthesise the available evidence on the management of vascular graft and stent infections in the supra-aortic trunks (SATs).
DATA SOURCES: MEDLINE, Scopus, Cochrane databases, and citation searching.
REVIEW METHODS: All study designs (case reports and series, cohort studies, and trials) addressing treatments for post-operative infections of prosthetic vascular grafts and stents in the SAT were included. GRADE methodology was used to assess the certainty of evidence.

Joint prostheses are increasingly used in our current practice. Infection is one of the most dreaded complications; it is most often due to germs of the skin flora. Listeria monocytogenes rarely causes this infection. We here report the case of a patient with hip prosthesis infected by this germ. Favorable outcome was obtained by antibiotic therapy and single-stage prosthesis replacement.

Bioprosthetic valve replacement for aortic valve endocarditis was reviewed in 98 patients, 39 nonaddicts and 59 addicts, from the Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit. Multivariate analysis was carried out, and the bioprosthetic valve is a reasonable valve replacement device for both native and prosthetic valve endocarditis.

CASE: A 63-year-old man presented with right knee pain and swelling 16 months after undergoing right total knee arthroplasty. Inflammatory markers were elevated, and after 6 weeks of incubation, cultures grew Nocardia nova. Treatment included 2-stage exchange of the prosthetic joint, multiple wound debridements, and an extended course of antibiotics. A Staphylococcus epidermidis infection complicated treatment, but all infections were considered resolved 14 months after the initial joint infection diagnosis.
