PURPOSE: To compare bovine pericardium (Periguard; Bio-Vascular, Inc., St. Paul, MN, U.S.A.) and homologous sclera as spacer graft analogs in a rabbit model.
METHODS: A nonrandomized experimental animal study was conducted. Elliptical subconjunctival implants were placed in one lower eyelid each of 10 rabbits. A father and daughter with apparently unique clinical findings are described. The findings include persistent Wormian bones, blue sclerae, mandibular hypoplasia, shallow glenoid fossae and campomelia. Apparently it is an autosomal dominant trait. Although the disorder is in the osteogenesis imperfecta group, nevertheless it appears to be different and until the basic defect is found we have named it "The Grant Syndrome".

We report a 6-year-old male of first cousin parents with the unique constellation of frontal bossing with brachycephaly, cutis aplasia congenita, blue sclerae, hypertelorism, hypoplastic nipples, rudimentary unilateral post-axial polydactyly of the hand, failure to thrive, mild to moderate developmental delay and sociable personality. Knoblock-Layer syndrome and Smith-Lemli-Opitz syndrome were considered in the differential diagnosis and were excluded. No similar cases were found in LDDB or other databases.
