PURPOSE: To investigate the effect of primary selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) on outflow facility and aqueous flow rate in patients with primary open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension.

In a retrospective study 97 patients with glaucoma and 16 with ocular hypertension were examined with regard to intraocular pressure (IOP) after extracapsular cataract extraction with implantation of a posterior chamber lens. In a retrospective study 274 eyes of 207 patients with glaucoma were followed, after they had undergone laser trabeculoplasty (LTP). The success of filtering surgery for glaucoma may be compromised by a postoperative flat anterior chamber associated with cornea-lens touch, hypotony, and absence of wound leakage. The clinical course of eight patients with this complication was reviewed. Six patients had chronic angle-closure glaucoma. The exfoliation syndrome is thought to be a very rare disease in China. The clinical features of 11 patients with pseudoexfoliation (PE) and the histopathologic changes in specimens affected by PE were studied. The loss of pigment at the pupillary ruff and the dense pigmentation on the trabecular meshwork were the early signs in the PE patients. Light and electron microscopic studies demonstrated that the PE materials were deposited on multiple sites in the anterior segment of the eye. To the best of the authors' knowledge, this is the first paper on the PE syndrome from China.
