As many Departments of Nursing within universities consider raising their academic entry requirements in an attempt to attract a more high academic achieving entrant and also endeavour to attract more school leavers one of the fundamental questions that needs to be answered is--are high academic achieving school pupils really interested in pursuing a career in nursing? The aim of this paper is to report on the findings from paradigmatic case interviews of high academic achieving school pupils who at one stage in their career choice process had considered nursing as a possible career choice but

Reflective practice is considered not only as a valuable tool for providing appropriate levels of care but also as an important prerequisite for the provision of professional nursing. Indeed, there appears to be consensus in the literature that reflections have the potential to assist practitioners to tap into knowledge gained from experience and connect theory to practice. However, evidence suggests that nurses, including emergency nurses, neglect reflective techniques. This paper outlines how the processes of reflection led to one emergency nurse developing new insights and understandings on

AIM: To explore the effects of dyslexia on the practice and career progression of UK registered nurses (RN).
BACKGROUND: Literature suggests dyslexia can have a negative impact in the workplace and may pose particular difficulties for nurses, where accuracy in information processing activities is essential for practice.
METHODS: A questionnaire was used to survey RNs with dyslexia (n = 116) and results analysed using content analysis.
FINDINGS: Dyslexia provided a challenge to the everyday work of RNs, which was often met successfully using a range of individualized strategies. Career progr

Continuous quality improvement activities are necessary to achieve excellence at any institution. The Başkent University Hospitals have implemented continuous in-service training programs to improve all health services provided. Also, continuing medical education programs are being instituted in organ procurement and transplantation centers. In addition to receiving basic orientation and training upon hiring, transplant coordination staff complete forms that detail their current training status, further job training needed, and other courses of interest. The information is used to monitor skil

Healthcare professionals have a professional duty to provide patients with accurate information in order to assist in managing their illness. This may be more difficult with an uncommon illness, such as motor neurone disease (MND), as many healthcare professionals may feel poorly informed about the illness themselves. This study set out to survey the level of knowledge and understanding about MND among a group of 100 healthcare professionals who had personal experience of managing the care of a person with MND. The value of the MND nurse specialist and the Motor Neurone Disease Association as

The increasing adoption of virtual reality (VR) in medical education offers substantial opportunities for immersive, practice-oriented training that complements traditional teaching methods. In particular, VR enables repeated, risk-free exposure to complex clinical scenarios and supports the development of clinical reasoning, communication skills, and procedural competence. However, implementing VR-based courses remains challenging due to high development costs, technical complexity, and the need for close interdisciplinary collaboration. This tutorial presents key insights and best practices

CONTEXT: Medical error is cited as a leading cause of preventable harm and death. Medical education in the United States must be restructured to enhance the development of skills, behaviors, and attitudes that medical students will need upon graduation, including the crucial ability to manage clinical and scientific information, understanding the basic concepts of human dynamics, patient safety, systems theory, and the development of basic management, communication, and teamwork skills. To accomplish this goal, it will be necessary for medical schools to balance their current, intensive focus

Background: Entrustable professional activities (EPAs) are increasingly used in competency-based assessment, but evidence remains limited for nursing workplace-based assessment (WBA) systems that can capture learning trajectories while providing defensible reliability for programmatic decisions. Objective: The objective of this study is to develop a respiratory nursing EPA framework and clinically validate core EPAs using longitudinal WBA data, including performance progression, attainment patterns, and reliability requirements based on generalizability (G) theory and decision (D) studies. BACKGROUND: Clinical learning is the cornerstone of nursing education, integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice to develop essential clinical skills, critical thinking, and professional confidence. Nursing students' face major challenges, including a shortage of qualified clinical instructors, overcrowded clinical sites, and limited clinical equipment, which hinder their skill development and clinical competence at Wolaita Sodo University, South Ethiopia. Despite its importance, evidence on the extent and determinants of these challenges in the study area is limited.

Background/Objectives: To address the inconsistent provision of specialist physical education (PE) in primary schools, this study investigated the comparative efficacy of distinct team teaching configurations. The objective was to compare these instructional models' impact on students' basic motor competencies (MC) and self-reported physical literacy (PL). Methods: This cluster-randomized trial involved N = 266 students (grades 1-4) in Slovakia, assigned to one of five instructional models (PE teacher; GT+PET; PET+AT; GT+C; and GT+AT). The five-month intervention included two 45 min PE lessons

BACKGROUND: Medical professionals, from trainees to practicing clinicians, often lack adequate preparation to provide care and understand the health needs of transgender and gender diverse (TGD) people, as documented worldwide. As a result, many medical trainees feel unprepared to deliver competent and affirming care to TGD patients. To address this educational gap, this study implemented a simulation-based learning activity as an initial exposure to TGD healthcare. We aimed to assess medical students' attitudes and performance in a transgender healthcare simulation scenario.

STUDY QUESTION: Do women who place high importance on career success have different perceptions of pregnancy planning, delayed reproduction, and the ethical acceptability of ART than women with less emphasis on their career?
SUMMARY ANSWER: Career-focused women place more importance on pregnancy planning, have greater confidence in delayed childbearing, and are more ethically accepting of donor gamete ART than women who do not place as much importance on career success.
WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: Women in high-professional careers are more likely to delay childbearing while simultaneously posses

STUDY QUESTION: How is the reproductive life plan (RLP) adopted in midwifery contraceptive counselling?
SUMMARY ANSWER: A majority of midwives adopted the RLP in their counselling, had predominantly positive experiences and considered it a feasible tool for promoting reproductive health.
WHAT IS KNOWN ALREADY: The RLP is a health-promoting tool recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the USA for improving preconception health. It was recently used in a clinical setting in Sweden and was found to increase women's knowledge about fertility and to influence women's wish

PREFACE: The leadership of Women in Neurosurgery (WINS) has been asked by the Board of Directors of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) to compose a white paper on the recruitment and retention of female neurosurgical residents and practitioners.
INTRODUCTION: Neurosurgery must attract the best and the brightest. Women now constitute a larger percentage of medical school classes than men, representing approximately 60% of each graduating medical school class. Neurosurgery is facing a potential crisis in the US workforce pipeline, with the number of neurosurgeons in the US

AIMS: The aims of this feasibility trial were to assess the acceptability and feasibility of peer-led recovery groups for people with psychosis in a low-resource South African setting, to assess the feasibility of trial methods, and to determine key parameters in preparation for a definitive trial.
METHODS: The design was an individually randomised feasibility trial comparing recovery groups in addition to treatment as usual (TAU) with TAU alone. Ninety-two isiXhosa-speaking people with psychosis and forty-seven linked caregivers were recruited from primary care clinics and randomly allocated

INTRODUCTION: Gynecologic examinations expose women to particular vulnerability, making relational and ethical aspects essential beyond technical skills. While professional societies outline recommended behaviors, the importance women attribute to these non-technical elements remains insufficiently characterized. This study aimed to assess how women value key relational components of gynecologic examinations.
METHODS: In this exploratory cross-sectional study, a questionnaire was developed from gynecologic and ethical guidelines, and distributed via QR codes in outpatient gynecology and gener
