Intravenous digital subtraction angiography in the assessment of patients with left to right shunts before and after surgical correction.

Pre- and postoperative structural changes and pulmonary to systemic flow (QP/QS) ratios were assessed using digital angiography in 34 patients documented to have a left to right shunt at cardiac catheterization. There were 16 men and 18 women whose ages ranged from 4 months to 60 years. The radiographic single mask mode was used for all digital subtraction angiographic studies with a typical radiographic sequence being 80 to 100 kV, 5 to 10 mA/frame at six frames/s for 15 seconds. Renografin-76 was used as a bolus injection at 0.5 to 1.0 ml/kg via an arm vein in most patients. The level of the

Generative AI-based low-dose digital subtraction angiography for intra-operative radiation dose reduction: a randomized controlled trial.

Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) devices guide procedures across numerous diseases, performed on more than 100,000 patients daily worldwide. However, these procedures expose patients and healthcare providers to radiation, increasing the risk of health issues. Despite many low-dose DSA imaging methods proposed, none have been prospectively clinically validated. In this study, 46,829 patients (over 5 million DSA images) from 70 centers were used to iterate our previously developed generative artificial intelligence system (named GenDSA-V2). A total of 1,068 patients (533 in intervention arm

Systematic Review of Renal Outcomes and Procedural Efficacy of Carbon Dioxide Digital Subtraction Angiography in Endovascular Aortic Repair.

OBJECTIVE: Carbon dioxide (CO2) has been proposed as a contrast agent during endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) to minimise the risk of worsened post-operative renal function (PO-RFW). However, strong clinical evidence supporting its widespread use remains limited. This systematic review aimed to evaluate current literature on the use of CO2 digital subtraction angiography (DSA) during EVAR, with particular attention to renal outcomes and procedural efficacy. DATA SOURCES: Systematic searches were conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and the Cochrane Library for studies published up to December 2024 r

Evaluating post-treatment residual intracranial arteriovenous shunting: a comparison of arterial spin labeling MRI and digital subtraction angiography.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the efficacy of arterial spin labeling (ASL) MRI in detecting residual arteriovenous (AV) shunting in treated arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and fistulas (AVFs). METHODS: A retrospective institutional review identified 29 patients with DSA-confirmed AV shunt lesions treated via embolization (n = 17), stereotactic radiosurgery (n = 2), surgical resection (n = 8), or combined embolization and surgical resection (n = 4), with corresponding baseline and post-treatment ASL and DSA studies. Two neuroradiologists independently assessed ASL images for residual AV shunting, wi

Noninvasive dynamic vascular imaging: arterial spin labeling-based noncontrast magnetic resonance digital subtraction angiography for cerebral disease diagnoses.

Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is the gold standard for assessing cerebrovascular hemodynamics. DSA is predominantly utilized to evaluate the hemodynamic information of various cerebral diseases. However, DSA is relatively invasive and involves radiation exposure and risks of allergic reactions or renal dysfunction related to iodine-based contrast agents. Magnetic resonance DSA (MRDSA) with a gadolinium-based contrast agent is a popular method for assessing hemodynamics without radiation exposure. However, it has the disadvantage of the risk of allergy due to the contrast agent and lowe

Eagle syndrome with repeated transient disturbances of consciousness diagnosed using digital subtraction angiography with head rotation: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Eagle syndrome with repeated transient disturbances of consciousness is uncommon, with only a few reported cases. Here, the authors report a rare case of Eagle syndrome with repeated transient disturbances of consciousness in a specific head position, diagnosed using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) with head rotation. OBSERVATIONS: A 74-year-old man experienced several episodes of transient disturbance of consciousness. When he stared downward toward the left, he experienced transient tremors in the right upper and lower limbs and a transient loss of consciousness. Magnetic

Early cerebral venous drainage associated with focal seizures: a correlation of digital subtraction angiography and electroencephalography. Illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Early venous drainage is a critical diagnostic feature of arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs). However, other conditions associated with early venous drainage can mimic AVMs and AVFs and mislead the treating physician team. OBSERVATIONS: The authors present a unique case of a 56-year-old man with new left hemianopsia. Workup with magnetic resonance imaging and magnetic resonance angiography had revealed cortical enhancement and early venous drainage, possibly caused by an AVF or AVM. Catheter angiography confirmed the presence of early venous drain

Drawing time-density curve with Fiji/ImageJ: An alternative approach for parametric coding of cerebral digital subtraction angiography.

BACKGROUND: Quantitative spatiotemporal analysis of digital subtraction angiography could support clinical decision making for the management of cerebral vascular disease. However, there is a lack of free and user-friendly applications. The objective of our study is to devise a free and simple solution for parametric coding of digital subtraction angiography. NEW METHOD: By driving the time-density curves in the region of interest, the digital subtraction angiography images were color-coded and quantitatively analyzed using fully open-source and free software (Fiji/ImageJ). The similarity fac

Three-dimensional fusion images from digital subtraction angiography for the treatment of direct carotid-cavernous fistulas: illustrative case.

BACKGROUND: Direct carotid-cavernous fistulas (dCCFs) are often treated endovascularly. However, because the dCCF is usually a high-flow shunt, it is often difficult to obtain an accurate vascular structure using conventional digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Here, the authors report a case of successfully treated dCCF using three-dimensional (3D) fused DSA images. OBSERVATIONS: The patient presented with tinnitus, followed by oculomotor palsy, prompting magnetic resonance imaging that indicated a dural arteriovenous fistula of the cavernous sinus. DSA was performed before treatment, and

Acute communicating hydrocephalus caused by extravasation of digital subtraction angiography contrast medium: a case report and literature review.

With the increasing use of endovascular technology in the treatment of various conditions, there has been an inevitable rise in cases with extravasation of contrast medium. We present a case in which extravasation of a large quantity of contrast medium resulted in acute communicating hydrocephalus. A 78-year-old woman came to the hospital because of abnormal right-sided limb movement, and was diagnosed with occlusion of the left internal carotid artery. The patient underwent timely intra-arterial mechanical thrombectomy. Postoperative computed tomography (CT) examination revealed a high-densit

Evaluation of a distal pericallosal aneurysm visualized with 3-dimensional digital subtraction angiography: case report and treatment implications.

BACKGROUND: Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is considered the gold standard in the evaluation of cerebrovascular structures. Recently, 3-dimensional DSA (3D-DSA) has been increasingly used to obtain detailed information about the morphology and dimensions of intracranial aneurysms. We report the case of a patient who presented with a distal pericallosal artery aneurysm, which appeared by 2D imaging to be a fusiform, possible mycotic aneurysm. This was then revealed to be a saccular bifurcation aneurysm by 3D-DSA. This additional information changed the treatment plan for this patient fro

Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) of the extracranial cerebral vessels: a direct comparison between intravenous and intra-arterial DSA.

Fifty patients being investigated for ischaemic cerebrovascular disease underwent both intravenous digital subtraction angiography (IV-DSA) and intra-arterial arch digital subtraction angiography (arch-DSA) to enable a direct comparison to be made between the two techniques. The overall quality of the images obtained by arch-DSA was better than that obtained by IV-DSA, but there was no significant difference between the number and gradation of stenoses detected by the two techniques. No significant stenosis was missed by IV-DSA and the technique was found to be sufficiently accurate for it to

[Congenital and acquired anomalies of the inferior vena cava. Differential diagnosis using digital subtraction angiography and computed tomography].

Segmental aplasias of the inferior vena cava, thrombosis of the vena cava, tumour infiltration (e.g. renal neoplasms via the renal vein) and external compression (e.g. large hepatic metastases) may produce similar radiomorphologic changes in chest x-ray DSA and CT. These radiomorphological changes are described by case reports. DSA clearly demonstrates the course of the vessels and the collaterals involved. CT may elucidate the paracaval vascular changes. It is only a synopsis of cavography (DSA) and CT with reference to embryogenesis that will lead to a reliable diagnosis and enable a definit

[Myocardial perfusion detected using digital subtraction angiography as compared with X-ray CT and Tl-201 myocardial imaging].

Forty-two patients who underwent aorto-coronary bypass surgery were examined with intra-aortic digital subtraction angiography (IADSA) to detect abnormalities of myocardial blood perfusion. Tl-201 myocardial imaging and cardiac X-ray CT were performed nearly simultaneously about one month postoperatively. Cardiac imaging using IADSA was performed at a rate of 30 frames/sec with matrix size of 512 x 256. Time density curves of each pixel in the region of the myocardium of the left ventricle were post-processed to obtain functional images. The maximal concentration (Cmax), integration of the tim

Transvenous digital subtraction angiography (DSA) for diagnostic control following percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) in patients with renovascular hypertension.

Transvenous digital subtraction angiography (DSA) of the kidneys has shown to be useful in detection of renovascular abnormalities in hypertensive patients. In this study DSA was performed in 27 patients (fibrom. dyspl. n = 12, arterioscl. n = 15) following percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) of renal artery stenosis. Concerning PTA-effect on blood pressure, patients were classified in 3 groups (normal n = 13, improved n = 10, failure n = 4). DSA images and simultaneously determined effective renal plasma flow (ERPF) were correlated with response of blood pressure to PTA. The results d
