Family members of 47 hepatitis B virus (HBV)-carrier pregnant women were tested for the presence of hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg), other markers of HBV infection, and hepatitis A virus (HAV) antibodies. Eleven members of six families were found to be HBV DNA positive. Five of the anti-HBe-positive persons were found to be HBV DNA carriers, too. The mean age of the HBV DNA carriers was found to be lower than that of Hbe carriers; therefore, it is suggested that seroconversion to HBe occurs before the resolution of HBV DNA carrier state. A four-dose vaccination schedule was used to interrupt perinatal transmission of hepatitis B virus from carrier mothers to their babies. Of 49 babies immunised and successfully followed up, 43 (88%) became immune: 15 out of 21 (71%) of babies born to HBeAg + mothers became immune, the other 6 becoming the only carrier babies in the study. A 45-year-old white woman presented with chronic bilateral, painless, progressive, peripheral vision loss. She was found to have bilateral optic atrophy and nonenhancing multifocal white matter lesions on magnetic resonance imaging of the brain. Three-dimensional (3D) halide perovskite nanocrystals (HPNs) offer high photoluminescence quantum yields with compositionally tunable emission; however, they suffer from the tendency of exciton localization toward the surface, leading to nonradiative losses and thereby necessitating strategies that confine excitations away from surface states. Core-shell architectures provide a route to spatially control exciton localization within the core, thereby suppressing surface-mediated losses. Despite growing experimental efforts, atomistic understanding of emission in core-shell HPNs remains limited.

Chromosome 5q related Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is an autosomal recessive, progressive, neuromuscular disorder most commonly caused by homozygous deletion of exon 7 or exon 7 and 8 of SMN1 gene. Being the leading genetic cause of infant mortality, studies of its prevalence and incidence are necessary. Carrier testing for the common pathogenic variant for SMA is offered to the couples visiting our tertiary care hospital in North India. Subjects were tested for SMA carrier status by Multiplex Ligation-dependent Probe amplification (MLPA) technique for deletion of exons 7 and 8 of SMN1 gene.
