BACKGROUND: South Hungary is being monitored for the northward spreading of thermophilic ixodid species, therefore ticks were collected from cattle and wild ruminants (red, fallow and roe deer) in the autumn of 2011.
FINDINGS: Besides indigenous species (1185 Dermacentor reticulatus and 976 Ixodes ricinus), two Hyalomma marginatum rufipes males were found on two cows, in September eight days apart.

BACKGROUND: Babesiosis in an entity transmitted by tick bite presented in our medium producing high morbidity and mortality in immunodepressed patients.
METHODS: The prevalence of ticks infected with bovine Babesias was studied in a sample of 104 ticks collected from cattle for alimentation in the Sierra of the Autonomous Community of La Rioja.
RESULTS: 3.84% of the ticks studied (3.3% of 89 Ixodes ricinus and 6.6% of 15 Dermacentor marginatus) presented Babesias in the hemolymph by Giemsa staining.

In October 2020, three captive male white-tailed deer, Odocoileus virginianus [Zimmermann] (artiodactyla: Cervidae), were found dead in central Pennsylvania and a fourth was euthanized due to extreme lethargy. Romania has a highly diverse tick fauna. Consequently, a high diversity of tick-transmitted pathogens might be a potential threat to humans. In May 1993, we collected unfed ticks in Anan, Tokushima Prefecture, Shikoku District, Japan, a highly endemic area of Japanese spotted fever (JSF). We isolated JSF rickettsiae from these ticks by inoculating tick-emulsions into L-929 cells. Of the four genera and seven species of ticks examined, only one larva of Dermacentor taiwanensis Sugimoto yielded a rickettsial isolate.
