Automatic exposure compensation of digital radiographic technologies does not affect alveolar bone-level measurement.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate whether the automatic exposure compensation in the presence of high-density materials can affect the measurement of alveolar bone level. METHODS: Thirty regions of seven dry skulls and six mandibles were radiographed with and without a high-density material, using two digital radiographic technologies: photostimulable phosphor plate (PSP, Digora Optime) and sensor (CMOS, Digora Toto), totaling 120 images. The distances from the cement-enamel junction to the alveolar bone crest were measured using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images to represent the reference sta

Digital technologies and collective intelligence for healthcare ecosystem: Optimizing Internet of Things adoption for pandemic management.

This paper proposes a framework based on the collective intelligence principle to understand how the healthcare ecosystem is facing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 by using the Internet of Things (IoT) combined with other digital technologies. The underlying assumption is to consider the Healthcare ecosystem as a collective intelligence system in which the multitude of actors can be coordinated to address the pandemic-specific management challenges. The Italian healthcare ecosystem is analyzed as scenario taking in consideration the 'genes' of the collective intelligence: What is being do

Digital technologies as biomarkers, clinical outcomes assessment, and recruitment tools in Alzheimer's disease clinical trials.

Digital technology is transforming the development of drugs for Alzheimer's disease and was the topic of the Alzheimer's Association's Research Roundtable on its May 23-24, 2017 meeting. Research indicates that wearable devices and unobtrusive passive sensors that enable the collection of frequent or continuous, objective, and multidimensional data during daily activities may capture subtle changes in cognition and functional capacity long before the onset of dementia. The potential to exploit these technologies to improve clinical trials as both recruitment and retention tools as well as for …

Evolving minimally invasive spine surgery: a surgeon's perspective on technological convergence and digital or control system.

Degenerated spinal disc and spinal stenosis are common problems requiring decompressive spinal surgery. Traditional open spinal discectomy is associated with significant tissue trauma, greater morbidity/complications, scarring, often longer term of convalescence, and even destabilization of the spine. Therefore, the pursuit of less traumatic minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS) began. The trend of spinal surgery is rapidly moving toward MISS. MISS is a technologically dependent surgery, and requires increased utilization of advanced endoscopic surgical instruments, imaging-video technology,

Digital Mourning as Collective Psychosocial Support: A Descriptive Phenomenology of Technologically Mediated Grief in a Collectivist Context.

This study examines digital mourning as collective psychosocial support in a collectivist context. Using Husserlian descriptive phenomenology, it reanalyzes interviews with ten Filipino Facebook users who expressed grief online. The analysis explicates how digital environments constitute shared empathy, moral participation, and affective solidarity as lived relational processes. Findings show that digital mourning is not merely a supportive environment but a relational-spiritual praxis through which grief is enacted as psychosocial support. Structured through technological affordances such as
