AIM: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Remaxol in the correction of hemostatic system in patients with severe acute peritonitis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: 52 patients with acute peritonitis of different severity were examined, and divided into 4 groups: I - mild, II - moderate, III - severe. The patients of these groups had treated using standard therapy. The IV group had patients with severe peritonitis, who received an additional Remaxol. The hemostasis system was evaluated using a TEG 5000 thromboelastograph and biochemical tests.

BACKGROUND: To present our initial experience with laparoscopic salpingotomy using the Floseal™ (Baxter International Corp., Deerfield, IL) hemostatic matrix for tubal pregnancy and to evaluate the efficacy and tubal patency after salpingotomy.

Standard endoscopic management of bleeding peptic ulcers includes injection, thermal coagulation, or mechanical clipping. The use of hemostatic forceps has increased with the widespread use of endoscopic submucosal dissection to control bleeding. INTRODUCTION: Neuroendoscopy is a rapidly growing field, but the risk of intraventricular hemorrhage is signficant. There are few novel ways of obtaining hemostasis for major hemorrhage described in the literature.
PATIENT: A 5-year-old boy with a history of intraventricular hemorrhage and multi-cystic hydrocephalus presented with worsening brainstem compression from dilation of a 4 (th) ventricle cyst.
RESULTS: During endoscopic surgery to fenestrate the cyst, arterial hemorrhage was emergently controlled with the hemostatic agent, FloSeal.

To better understand the role of the hemostatic mechanism in preeclampsia, placental extracts obtained from 26 normal pregnant women (NP) and 12 patients with severe pre-eclampsia (SPE) were analyzed to determine thrombomodulin (TM), tissue factor (TF), tissue-type plasminogen activator (tPA), plasminogen activator inhibitor (PAI) 1 and 2, and TF pathway inhibitor (TFPI). The results showed similar concentrations of TF, TM and PAI-2 in both groups, while tPA increased no significantly and TFPI and PAI-1 increased significantly in SPE placentas.

An ad hoc consensus group determined that the prevalence of von Willebrand's disease in females with heavy menstrual bleeding is approximately 13%, but the severity of the disorder varies and, consequently, the overall clinical impact remains unknown. Consensus recommendations are presented, which include [1] a structured history for screening females with heavy menstrual bleeding; [2] a collaborative, multidisciplinary evaluation, and [3] a strategy for future basic science and clinical investigation.

BACKGROUND: An effective hemostatic agent capable of stopping severe arterial bleeding and sustaining hemostasis over a prolonged time is required. The U.S. Army recently distributed fibrin sealant (under an Investigational New Drug-approved protocol) and chitosan dressings among deployed medics for treating severe external hemorrhage on the battlefield. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of these dressings, as compared with the standard gauze army field dressing, to provide initial and sustained hemostasis up to 96 hours in a lethal uncontrolled arterial hemorrhage model.
