Repeated cytoreductive surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy in patients with peritoneal carcinomatosis: A retrospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: The prognosis of abdominal cancer with peritoneal carcinomatosis (PC) is poor. In literature, some authors described a repeated Cytoreductive Surgery (CRS) with Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy (HIPEC) in patients with recurrent PC as feasible for overall survival improvement. Hence, we implemented this approach at our hospital and analyzed our cases. METHODS: A unicentric retrospective observational study took place at the Helios hospital Berlin-Buch in 2020. The data of individuals who received a HIPEC in the time of 2007-2019 were extracted. The data were entered in

Pharmacokinetics and toxicity of carboplatin used for hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer.

OBJECTIVES: Carboplatin is frequently used in various doses for hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in the treatment of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) although its pharmacokinetics, including focus on the perfusion time, has not been evaluated when used in modern era cytoreductive surgery (CRS). The aim was to evaluate the pharmacokinetics and hematological toxicity of carboplatin used for HIPEC with a perfusion time of 90 min. METHODS: Fifteen patients with stage III-IV primary EOC received CRS and 90 min of HIPEC with carboplatin at dose 800 mg/m2. For the pharmacokinetic ana

Assessment of nephrotoxicity associated with combined cisplatin and mitomycin C usage in laparoscopic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) has been used to treat various peritoneal malignancies. Cisplatin and mitomycin C (MMC) are agents commonly used in these procedures and, individually, each has been associated with acute kidney injury (AKI). There is limited literature on the complications associated with the use of both agents in HIPEC. Therefore, we sought to determine the incidence of nephrotoxicity and electrolyte abnormalities in patients undergoing laparoscopic HIPEC using this chemotherapeutic combination. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated

Cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for pseudomyxoma peritonei in a liver-transplanted patient: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Diagnostic work-ups in transplanted immunosuppressed patients are a challenge as non-specific findings may be interpreted as transplant-related complications. If the disease in question is rare and slowly developing like pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP), it is even more difficult. Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and subsequent hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is the recommended treatment for PMP even with extensive peritoneal spread. CRS-HIPEC for PMP after liver transplantation (LTX) has not been described before. CASE PRESENTATION: A 48-year-old female patient with end-

Impact of Major Complications on Patients' Quality of Life After Cytoreductive Surgery and Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy.

INTRODUCTION: Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is an effective treatment for selected patients with peritoneal surface malignancies (PSM). Although it can have significant morbidity, perioperative mortality is low. Little is known about whether major complications after CRS/HIPEC have a lasting impact on patients' quality of life (QOL). METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed data from a prospectively collected database on patients treated with CRS/HIPEC for PSM (2011-2014). Patients with CRS/HIPEC and 6-month QOL evaluation were included. Major p

Care of the open abdomen after cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy for peritoneal surface malignancies.

A patient with a mucinous appendiceal cancer presents to the surgeon complaining of abdominal discomfort and nausea. Having undergone a prior right hemicolectomy, the patient has been disease free and on surveillance with clinical and carcinogenic antigen (CEA) monitoring. The CEA was noted to be elevated and a computed tomography scan revealed peritoneal nodules throughout the abdomen with a presumptive diagnosis of pseudomyxoma peritonei (progressive peritoneal implants from a mucinous primary). Several therapeutic options were offered and the patient selected to undergo cytoreductive surger

Comparison of cytoreductive surgery and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy with mitomycin or carboplatin for diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma.

Diffuse malignant peritoneal mesothelioma is a rare, aggressive disease. Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) have improved outcomes where systemic chemotherapy has not succeeded. In this study, we compare outcomes of patients treated with mitomycin or carboplatin as perfusate. In this retrospective study, 47 procedures (CRS + HIPEC) were conducted on 44 patients between March 2003 and August 2010 with either mitomycin or carboplatin. χ(2) and Student's t test were used for comparison of clinicopathological variables and Kaplan-Meier curves and log

The role of hyperthermic intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) in the treatment of peritoneal carcinomatosis in recurrent ovarian cancer.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Peritoneal carcinomatosis in women frequently has an ovarian origin. Hyperthermic intraoperative intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) along with radical surgery/peritonectomy could present a new therapeutic approach with curative intention. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the role of the administration of HIPEC. METHODS: A series of patients (N=26) diagnosed with peritoneal carcinomatosis for recurrent epithelial ovarian cancer (stage III) from January 1997 to December 2004 submitted to radical surgery/peritonectomy with optimal cytoreduction (R0-R1) wer
