Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common gynaecological/endocrine disorder that affects 5%-10% of women of reproductive age. Its association with psychiatric conditions is well known. This study aimed to evaluate personality, temperamental, and stress-related characteristics among PCOS patients by comparing them with a control group. AIMS: To define the most frequent personality disorders related to alcohol dependence.
METHODS: Using the International Personality Disorder Examination and the Millon Clinical Multiaxial Inventory-II for personality disorders, 30 consecutively recruited alcohol-dependent patients attending an outpatient clinic were compared with 30 consecutively recruited psychiatric patients with non-addictive disorders and 31 subjects from the general population chosen to match the patient samples for age, gender and socio-economic level.

A number of previous studies have delineated Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) characteristics in patients with multiple personality. To test the accuracy of the MMPI in identifying such patients, the authors blindly rated 63 MMPIs as being either multiple personality or not. The personality characteristics of 40 couples admitted into an artificial insemination scheme have been analysed. The personality study was carried out using Cattell's questionnaire 16 PF (form C) and EPI questionnaire (Eysenck Personality Inventory). The results show significant statistical differences between males and females with a greater conformity with the group, in women; women are also bolder and more disciplined from an emotional point of view, whereas men are more radical.
