Encouraging Influenza Vaccination Among Text4baby Pregnant Women and Mothers.

INTRODUCTION: Pregnant women, postpartum women, and infants are at high risk for complications from influenza. From October to November 2012, Text4baby, a free national text service for pregnant women and mothers of infants aged <1 year, implemented a module of interactive messages encouraging maternal influenza vaccination. A program evaluation examined whether a text-based reminder or tailored education improved self-reported influenza vaccination or intent to be vaccinated later in the influenza season among Text4baby participants. METHODS: Nearly one third (28,609/89,792) of enrollees res

Using Text Reminder to Improve Childhood Immunization Adherence in the Philippines.

A comparative descriptive study was conducted to determine the effectiveness of text messages with pictures compared with plain text messages or verbal reminders in improving measles, mumps, and rubella immunization compliance in the rural areas of the Philippines. We found that text messaging with or without pictures is a feasible and useful tool in measles, mumps, rubella immunization compliance for childhood immunization. Texting with pictures (n = 23), however, was no more effective than plain text messaging (n = 19) or verbal reminder (n = 17) in improving measles, mumps, and rubella immu…

Multicomponent Behavior Change Technique Intervention for Caregivers of People With Alzheimer Disease and Related Dementias: Protocol for a Single-Arm, Personalized Behavioral Trial to Disrupt Sedentary Time.

BACKGROUND: Sedentary behavior is associated with negative health outcomes. High levels of sedentary behavior are common among Alzheimer disease and related dementias (ADRD) caregivers already at risk of other adverse health effects, yet few interventions target sedentary behavior within this population. There is a need for trials intended to reduce time spent sedentary, which may be achievable by increasing the frequency of disruptions to sedentary time. Remotely delivered behavior change techniques (BCTs) may be effective for disrupting sedentary behavior in this population through short bur

Adaptive Strategies for Retention in Care among Persons Living with HIV.

BACKGROUND: Optimizing retention in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) treatment may require sequential behavioral interventions based on patients' response. METHODS: In a sequential multiple assignment randomized trial in Kenya, we randomly assigned adults initiating HIV treatment to standard of care (SOC), Short Message Service (SMS) messages, or conditional cash transfers (CCT). Those with retention lapse (missed a clinic visit by ≥14 days) were randomly assigned again to standard-of-care outreach (SOC-Outreach), SMS+CCT, or peer navigation. Those randomly assigned to SMS or CCT who did no

Multiple Forms of Sexting and Associations with Psychosocial Health in Early Adolescents.

Despite the recent surge of sexting research, the link between sexting and psychosocial health remains inconclusive. To address this gap in the literature, we examined the link between multiple forms of sexting and a range of psychosocial health problems. Data were from a randomized controlled trial of a school-based dating violence prevention program. Participants were 2199 early adolescents (49.8% female) aged 14 years and under (mean age = 13.53, SD = 0.50) enrolled in middle-schools in southeast Texas. Participants self-reported to be 35.4% Hispanic, 7.9% Non-Hispanic White, 26.2% Non-Hisp

Surgeon Wellness and Cognitive Overload in the Digital Era: Leveraging Electronics-free Intervals and Workflow Adaptation.

Physicians increasingly face a growing burden of digital communication woven into their clinical, academic, and administrative roles, including emails, text messages, electronic health record interactions, and patient portal messages (eg, MyChart). Although these tools aim to enhance connectivity, productivity, and patient care, they often contribute to cognitive overload, burnout, and diminished well-being. This article examines the impact of excessive electronic communication and digital interruptions on surgeons, and underscores the value of structured disconnection strategies, such as the

Communicating Uncertainty in Written Consumer Health Information to the Public: Parallel-Group, Web-Based Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Uncertainty is integral to evidence-informed decision making and is of particular importance for preference-sensitive decisions. Communicating uncertainty to patients and the public has long been identified as a goal in the informed and shared decision-making movement. Despite this, there is little quantitative research on how uncertainty in health information is perceived by readers. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to examine the impact of different uncertainty descriptions regarding the evidence for a treatment effect in a written research summary for the public. METHODS:

Dystextia and dystypia as modern stroke symptoms: A case series and literature review.

Stroke recognition remains a barrier to care in cerebrovascular disease. Despite an increasing reliance on digital communication, the clinical utility of deficits relating to technology remains unexplored. Dystextia and dystypia, terms used to refer to impairments in texting and typing, respectively, may serve as modern indicators of stroke and provide information regarding stroke duration, symptomatology, and etiological diagnosis. In this report, we describe two cases in which dystextia and dystypia were involved in stroke presentation and perform a literature review surrounding these signs.
