Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are frequently placed to prevent pulmonary embolism in patients in whom anticoagulation is contraindicated or ineffective. Delayed erosion of the filter into adjacent vital structures is a rare complication. We report 3 complications of IVC filters managed with both surgical and endovascular therapies. A review of the available literature addresses incidence of delayed IVC filter complications, the approach to these problems, and the role of retrievable IVC filters.

Orbital cellulitis is an acute inflammation of the orbital content with exophthalmos, chemosis, blepharedema, reduction of eyeball motility and generalized illness, occasionally with fever. It is predominantly transmitted from the ENT region and rarely occurs as a complication after a scleral buckling procedure. The patient concerned contracted orbital cellulitis many years after scleral buckling because the cerclage was infected. Alterations to the sclera with atrophy and thinning in the context of myopia were probably favorable factors for development.

We present a 29 year old man who had unilateral visual loss and 3rd cranial nerve palsy after a nasal septoplasty. Nasal packing was extending from the right nasal cavity into the right frontal lobe passing through the right orbit. A combined trans-cranial and endoscopic endonasal approach was performed to safely remove the nasal packing and to achieve a leak-proof sealing of the anterior cranial base. AIM OF WORK: Evaluation of suitability and safety of venous port implantation with catheter insertion via the right internal jugular vein in oncology patients.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: One hundred one totally implantable venous ports were placed in 100 patients with malignancies from January 1, 2003 until March 31, 2005. Catheter of venous port was preferably inserted via the right internal jugular vein. We recorded a number of successful implantations using this venous approach and the rate of complications during the procedure and follow-up.

We compared the five- to seven-year clinical and radiological results of the metal-on-metal Birmingham hip resurfacing with a hybrid total hip arthroplasty in two groups of 54 hips, matched for gender, age, body mass index and activity level.
