Topological changes of the human autonomic cardiac nervous system in individuals with a retroesophageal right subclavian artery: two case reports and a brief review.

The topological changes of the human autonomic cardiac nervous system in two cadavers with a retroesophageal right subclavian artery (Rersa) were compared with the normal autonomic cardiac nervous system. The following new results were obtained in addition to the conventional deficient finding of the right recurrent laryngeal nerve. (1) Right superior cardiac nerves arising from the superior cervical ganglion were consistently observed in both cadavers, in addition to the right thoracic cardiac nerves along the Rersa. (2) A segmental accompanying tendency of the right cardiac nerves was recogn

Too much, too little, or just right? The inverted-U relationship between human-AI collaboration modes and eudaimonic well-being.

As human-AI collaboration becomes more pervasive, optimizing the distribution of decision-making authority between humans and AI has become a fundamental concern in human-centered AI design. The impacts of different human-AI collaboration modes (human-dominant, human-AI collaboration, and AI-dominant) on users' eudaimonic well-being, as well as the underlying psychological transmission mechanisms, remain poorly understood. Grounded in self-determination theory, we propose a serial mediation framework linking human-AI collaboration modes to eudaimonic well-being via the sequential mechanisms of

Left/right difference in the course and division of the pulmonary arterial branches in the lung upper lobe: A study using human embryos and early fetuses.

Although left/right differences in a configuration of the pulmonary artery (PA) and its branches are well known, there is little information as to when and how such differences are established. Examination of serial sagittal sections of 25 embryos and fetuses at 6-7 weeks of gestation demonstrated that, at O'Rahilly stages 18-20, the right earliest first branch of PA originated in the anterior side of the upper lobar bronchus and overlay the upper bronchi, in contrast to the left branch which was located posteriorly and constricted medially by the upper posterior bronchus B1 + 2b. The right ea

Vermiform Appendix During the Repackaging Process from Umbilical Herniation to Fixation onto the Right Posterior Abdomen: A Study of Human Fetal Horizontal Sections.

The anatomical position of the vermiform appendix varies among adults, and these variations are responsible for differences in the symptoms of appendicitis. However, to date no study has examined how and when these variations occur during fetal development. The present study examined horizontal sections of 27 midterm fetuses (crown rump length [CRL] 38-97 mm, gestational age approximately 8-15 weeks). There were 10 fetuses (CRL 56 mm or more) in which the cecum and appendix were in a posterosuperior site near the right kidney (postmigration phase), and 12 fetuses (CRL 39-72 mm) in which the il

Right ventricular dilatation after left ventricular acute myocardial infarction is predictive of extremely high peri-infarctual apoptosis at postmortem examination in humans.

BACKGROUND: Cardiac remodelling after acute myocardial infarction (AMI) is characterised by molecular and cellular mechanisms involving both left and right ventricles, and biventricular failure identifies patients with an extremely unfavourable prognosis. AIMS: To assess whether a link exists between increased myocardial apoptotic rates (AR) at sites of recent infarction and patterns of unfavourable cardiac remodelling, such as biventricular enlargement after left ventricular (LV) infarction. METHODS: Twelve patients with recent AMI involving the LV and not the right ventricle (RV) and with

Co-defining WASH (In)Security challenges among people experiencing homelessness. A qualitative study on the Human Right to Water and Sanitation from Bonn, Germany.

INTRODUCTION: Access to safe and affordable drinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for all is needed to safeguard human health, high on societal and political agendas. According to official estimates, populations in high-income countries (HICs) are well served. Vulnerable communities at the margins of rich societies, including people experiencing homelessness, however, are often underserved and overlooked. For them, safe WASH is often a dream rather than reality. To date, no study has been conducted in Germany - one of the countries most affected in Europe. METHODS: We chose a qualitat

Screening for coeliac disease in 1624 mainly asymptomatic children with type 1 diabetes: is genotyping for coeliac-specific human leucocyte antigen the right approach?

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the frequency of coeliac disease (CD)-specific human leucocyte antigen (HLA) genotypes in paediatric patients with type 1 diabetes (T1D), who are known to have a higher prevalence of CD than the general population, and to evaluate whether HLA genotyping is a suitable first-line screening method for CD. STUDY DESIGN: The study was a multicentre observational analysis of patients with T1D aged <20 years of whom a subgroup had undergone HLA genotyping. Patient data were retrieved from the Diabetes Prospective Follow-up database, a large diabetes follow-up registry. The

Reduced right atrial contractile force in patients with left ventricular diastolic dysfunction: A study in human atrial fibers-contractile force and diastolic dysfunction.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVE: The aim of our study was to evaluate right heart contractile force in patients with diastolic dysfunction (DD) with preserved left heart ejection fraction undergoing cardiac surgery. We examined the contractile properties of skinned human fibers obtained from the right auricle in two groups (DD and controls). METHODS: Right atrial tissue from 64 patients, who were undergoing cardiac surgery, were collected before extracorporal circulation. Tissue was conserved and prepared as "skinned fibers". We exposed the dissected fibers to increasing calcium concentrations and recor

Human model simulating right ventricular outflow tract tachycardia by high-frequency stimulation in the left pulmonary artery: autonomics and idiopathic ventricular arrhythmias.

INTRODUCTION: Frequent monomorphic premature ventricular contractions (PVC) and/or ventricular tachycardia (VT) in patients with structurally normal heart usually arise from the right ventricular outflow tract (RVOT). An animal model simulating RVOT tachycardia by high-frequency stimulation (HFS) of the sympathetic input to the proximal pulmonary artery (PA) has been previously described. The aim of this study was to similarly induce RVOT tachycardia in humans. METHODS: In 9 patients with no history of ventricular arrhythmias, a circumferential catheter was placed in the left, main, and proxi

Effects of verapamil on superior vena cava electrical remodeling induced by short-term pacing from right atrium and superior vena cava in human.

BACKGROUND: Although the superior vena cava (SVC) may be involved in the triggering or maintenance of atrial fibrillation (AF), the electrophysiological properties of SVC in human are ill-defined. METHODS: The baseline effective refractory periods (ERPs) of high right atrium (HRA), SVC and the conduction time (CT) between HRA and SVC were measured at pacing cycle lengths (PCL) of 600 and 400 ms respectively in 20 patients (12 females, age 46+/-13 years) with paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia. Immediately after acute electrical remodeling (ER) induced by constant HRA or SVC pacing at PCL

Inhibitory Theta Burst Stimulation Highlights the Role of Left aIPS and Right TPJ during Complementary and Imitative Human-Avatar Interactions in Cooperative and Competitive Scenarios.

Competitive and cooperative interactions are based on anticipation or synchronization with the partner's actions. Both forms of interaction may either require performing imitative or complementary movements with respect to those performed by our partner. We explored how parietal regions involved in the control of imitative behavior (temporo-parietal junction, TPJ), goal coding and visuo-motor integration (anterior intraparietal sulcus, aIPS) contribute to the execution of imitative and complementary movements during cooperative and competitive interactions. To this aim, we delivered off-line n

Role of right atrial endocardial structures as barriers to conduction during human type I atrial flutter. Activation and entrainment mapping guided by intracardiac echocardiography.

BACKGROUND: The importance of barriers in atrial flutter has been demonstrated in animals. We used activation and entrainment mapping, guided by intracardiac echocardiography (ICE), to determine whether the crista terminalis (CT) and eustachian ridge (ER) are barriers to conduction during typical atrial flutter in humans. METHODS AND RESULTS: In eight patients, ICE was used to guide the placement of 20-pole and octapolar catheters along the CT and interatrial septum and a roving catheter to nine sites: just posterior (1) and anterior (2) to the CT along the lateral right atrium, at the fossa

Generation of the human iPSC line (AHJNMUi001-A) from a patient with arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) carrying the LMNA c.821C>T pathogenic variant.

Arrhythmogenic right ventricular cardiomyopathy (ARVC) is a hereditary infiltrative cardiomyopathy characterized by fibrofatty replacement of the right ventricular myocardium, which may extend to the left ventricle in the advanced stages. Clinically, the condition is commonly associated with right ventricular dilation, malignant arrhythmias, and an increased risk of sudden cardiac death. In this study, we successfully established induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) lines from peripheral blood mononuclear cells of ARVC patients carrying a heterozygous LMNA gene mutation (c.821C>T, p.A274D), us

Transcriptomes of human mesenchymal cells isolated from the right ventricle and epicardial fat differ strikingly both directly after isolation and long-term culture.

AIMS: Mesenchymal stromal cells isolated from different tissues are claimed to demonstrate similar therapeutic potential and are often incorrectly named mesenchymal stem cells. However, through comparison of such cells is lacking. This study aimed to compare the transcriptome of mesenchymal cells of the same phenotype isolated from the heart muscle and epicardial fat of the same patient, before and after culture. METHODS AND RESULTS: Cells were isolated from biopsies of the right ventricle and epicardial fat collected from five patients (three men and two women, mean age 59.4 ± 2.6) who under

Anatomical studies of the autonomic nervous system in the human pelvis by the whole-mount staining method: left-right communicating nerves between bilateral pelvic plexuses.

PURPOSE: Some recent neurophysiological studies have suggested cross-innervation of pelvic genitourinary organs by extrinsic left-right communicating nerves. However, no definite course for these nerves has been clearly determined macroanatomically in humans. In the present study we extensively investigated the adult human pelvis to elucidate their courses by the whole-mount staining method. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 6 male human specimens that had been subjected to pathological dissection were examined by means of an acetylcholinesterase whole-mount staining method.
