OBJECTIVE: To explore the risk of pregnancy in patients conceived within one year after successful chemotherapy for gestational trophoblastic tumor.
METHODS: 22 patients conceived within one year after chemotherapy were followed up and analysed about abnormal pregnant result, wastage rate and the time of interval between chemotherapy and pregnancy.

Gestational trophoblastic disease is a group of pregnancy-related trophoblastic tumours. A brief discussion of the definition, etiology, epidemiology, classification, and prognosis of the gestational trophoblastic tumor (GTT) is presented. Current therapeutic options are summarized. GTTs arise from fetal tissues and can be divided into three histologic categories, hydatidiform mole, chorioadenoma destruens, and choriocarcinoma. Indications for hysterectomy in placental tumours are now most often to carry out hysterectomy as a second attack designed to deal with residual lesions of choriocarcinoma that prove resistant to chemotherapy. Of 80 patients treated, 24 were first seen for chemotherapy after hysterectomy and this is too great a number. On the remaining 56 patients we carried out hysterectomy in 8 cases of whom 7 were secondary to chemotherapy. Seven times we found a residual lesion. These patients are now apparently cured.

OBJECTIVES: For the purpose of determining the annual incidence and time trends of gestational trophoblastic disease (GTD), the medical records from 24 university hospitals, 13 private general hospitals and the Korean Research Institute of Gestational Trophoblastic Disease (KRI-TRD) were analyzed from 1971 to 1995.
MATERIALS & RESULTS: From a total of 7198 GTD cases (H-mole=3831, Invasive mole=2163, Choriocarcinoma=1177, PSTr=27) among 838659 deliveries between 1971 and 1995, the hospital-based incidence of H-mole per 1000 deliveries declined from 40.2 during 1971-975, to 2.3 during 1991-995.
