Studies have demonstrated that during hysteroscopic myomectomy with bipolar diathermy, carbon monoxide is produced and enters the patient's circulation. However, little is known regarding the immediate or long-term sequelae of transient rises in carboxyhemoglobin levels during hysteroscopic surgery. This paper aims to suggest recommendations for acute evaluation, management, patient counseling, and future research. We present a case of a 36-year-old woman (Gravida 0, Para 0) with abnormal uterine bleeding-leiomyoma and resultant anemia, undergoing hysteroscopic resection of a large submucous m

The treatment of intrauterine masses, such as endometrial polyps and leiomyomas, has undergone a technological revolution in the past few decades. Gynecologists may now choose from a variety of unipolar and bipolar resectoscopes as well as an assortment of both mechanical and bipolar hysteroscopic morcellators. We present a comparison of these technologies to better practitioners understanding of the strengths and limitations of these devices.

BACKGROUND: In contrast to conventional laparoscopic sterilization, newer hysteroscopic approaches avoid the need for hospital admission, general anesthesia, and prolonged recovery. However, there are concerns that the feasibility, safety, and efficacy of hysteroscopic sterilization may be lower than established laparoscopic sterilization.
OBJECTIVE: We sought to evaluate the outcomes of hysteroscopic sterilization compared with laparoscopic sterilization in routine clinical practice in a comparative observational cohort study.
STUDY DESIGN: This study was carried out at University of Birmin

OBJECTIVE: To study the prevalence of hysteroscopically evaluated disruptions of the integrity of the uterine wall ('niches') in women with and without a previous cesarean section.
STUDY DESIGN: A prospective cohort study was performed in a teaching hospital in the Netherlands. Women seeking hysteroscopic sterilization were included. A hysteroscopic evaluation of the anterior wall of the uterus and cervix to identify the existence of disruptions (niches) was performed in a standard manner. Primary outcome was the presence of a uterine niche, defined as any visible defect, disruption, or conca

The lethality of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) may be due to common misconceptions regarding etiology and the absence of effective screening and early diagnostic tools. Reviews of histopathological surveys performed on the resected fallopian tubes of breast cancer (BRCA) mutation carriers, who underwent risk-reducing salpingo-oophorectomy, unexpectedly revealed the presence of occult carcinomas of the fallopian tubes. This finding prompted studies that demonstrated the most accredited theory of type II EOC development, which suggests that a large proportion of these tumors are derived from t

A 36-year-old woman presented with pelvic pain and vaginal blood loss and interstitial pregnancy (a single gestational sac located in the proximity of the right uterine horn, without visualization of an embryo and/or attachments inside) on 2- and 3-dimensional ultrasonographic examination. The patient was clinically stable. Her abdomen was soft with normal peristalsis; superficial and deep palpation were painless, as was decompression. With the patient under general anesthesia, an operative hysteroscopy was performed visually via ultrasound. A slow injection of methotrexate solution was pushed

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the feasibility and safety of office hysteroscopic metroplasty using a 980nm diode laser.
STUDY DESIGN: 18 patients were treated for septate uterus between 2013 and 2016. The indications for hysteroscopic metroplasty were recurrent abortion in 11 of the women and primary infertility in the other seven. We used a 5mm-office hysteroscope with a diode laser fibre. After exploration of the cavity, the septum was divided with use of the laser fibre.
RESULTS: Operating time was 13,16±1,33min. Intraoperative pain was 3,05±0,72. No intraoperative or postoperative complications

OBJECTIVES: Myoma is the most frequent benign uterine tumor and might have a negative impact on fertility. In 5 to 10% of cases, infertility is associated with myoma and in 1 to 3% myoma is the only infertility factor. Even if effect of myomectomy on fertility is controversial, benefit of hysteroscopic myomectomy for submucosal myoma on fertility has already been shown. The aim of this study is to evaluate fertility of infertile women less than 46years old after hysteroscopic resection of submucosal myoma.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective unicentric study took place in the gynecologic

Essure hysteroscopic sterilization has been US Food and Drug Administration-approved in the United States since 2002. Complications associated with the Essure device include improper placement (malpositioning), unintended pregnancy, pain, infection, and nickel allergy. The rarity of complications, compounded by underreporting, makes it difficult to determine best practices insofar as management. This systematic review synthesizes the national and global experience with management of Essure-related complications and suggests treatment options when data allow.

BACKGROUND: Actinomyces infection is well-documented in intrauterine devices but has not been previously associated with hysteroscopic sterilization using coil inserts. Additionally, abscesses associated with these implants have been observed in few cases.
CASE: A 31-year-old multiparous woman with a history of hysteroscopic sterilization with coil inserts 18 months previously presented with several weeks of pelvic pain. Despite percutaneous drainage of intra-abdominal abscesses, her pain and fevers persisted. Blood cultures were positive for Actinomyces infection, and exploratory laparotomy

This was a retrospective review of all pregnancies reported after Essure in situ in the Netherlands. Pregnancies included those that were unintentional (resulting from lack of protocol adherence and/or misread confirmation tests) and those that were intentional (resulting from off-label use of Essure micro-inserts for hydrosalpinx closure before in vitro fertilization/intracytoplasmic sperm injection with embryo transfer or in vitro fertilization with embryo transfer after regret of sterilization). The outcomes of 50 pregnancies in women with 1 or 2 micro-inserts in situ were evaluated. Eight
