Multiple Mucosa-associated Lymphoid Tissue Lymphoma of the Trachea.

Mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue lymphoma is a common type of primary pulmonary carcinoma, but the presence of polypoid nodules is extremely rare. We herein report two cases with multiple nodules in the trachea. One case involved polypoid nodules and airway stenosis mimicking asthma; the other case had concurrent nontuberculous mycobacterial infection. The diagnosis of both cases was confirmed by bronchoscopy. The two cases were sensitive to radiotherapy and chemotherapy, respectively.

Catamenial pneumothorax due to bilateral pulmonary endometriosis.

Co-existence of catamenial pneumothorax and hemoptysis is rare. We present a case of catamenial pneumothorax due to bilateral pulmonary endometriosis in a 45-year-old woman. The patient presented with a 3-year history of intermittent productive cough with blood-tinged sputum, chronic anemia, loss of appetite, and general weakness associated with menstruation. Three years prior to this presentation the patient had undergone a sigmoidectomy as treatment for endometriosis of the sigmoid colon with bleeding. Chest radiographs and computed tomography (CT) scan revealed multiple nodules in both lung

Pulmonary chondroid hamartoma with nontuberculous mycobacterial infection: two case reports.

Solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) can be manifested in a variety of disorders including neoplasms, infection, inflammation, and vascular or congenital abnormalities. In addition, they are often accompanied with other pulmonary pathologic lesions such as consolidations and several pulmonary disorders present as similar pulmonary nodular lesions simultaneously. Diagnostic workup is important for these SPNs; however, many physicians often miss the second diagnosis for multiple pulmonary lesions with SPNs due to lack of clinical suspicion that each pulmonary nodule or pathologic lesion can have ea

[Radiological diagnosis of pulmonary metastases: imaging findings and diagnostic accuracy].

Pulmonary metastases typically present as mostly multiple and bilateral, well-defined, non-calcified pulmonary nodules with predominantly basal and peripheral location. Ill-defined, cavitating, calcified and endobronchial metastases are uncommon. In the absence of pathognomonic findings precise differentiation from other-even benign-pulmonary nodules is almost impossible. Demonstration of contrast enhancement at CT or MRI or evidence of growth at serial examinations support the diagnosis of pulmonary metastases. In uncertain cases percutaneous fine-needle aspiration or cutting needle biopsy wi

A rare etiology of pulmonary nodules.

INTRODUCTION: Pulmonary nodules are a frequent finding on chest imaging studies, with differential including multiple benign entities, but malignancy is often also a concern. Computed Tomography (CT) and Fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scans have improved the characterization of pulmonary nodules. However, many nodules remain indeterminate and require periodic monitoring. Here we report two nodular pulmonary amyloidosis cases as a rare etiology of enlarging pulmonary nodules with FDG avidity. CASE PRESENTATION: Case 1: 75-year-old woman with a history of asthma, em

Pulmonary manifestations of extrathoracic malignant lesions.

Two of the most common thoracic manifestations of extrapulmonary malignant tumors are thoracic metastatic lesions and pulmonary thromboembolism. Recognition of the broad array of patterns of pulmonary metastatic involvement is essential for optimal management of oncology patients. In addition to the "typical" pattern of multiple bilateral nodules, patients may have solitary nodules, reticulonodular infiltrates, hilar and mediastinal adenopathy, endobronchial obstruction, pleural disease, or even normal roentgenographic findings. An awareness of the association between cancer and pulmonary thro

Case of pulmonary cryptococcosis mimicking hematogeneous metastases in an immunocompetent patient: value of absent 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose uptake on positron emission tomography/CT scan.

The radiologic appearance of multiple discrete pulmonary nodules in immunocompetent patients, with cryptococcal infection, has been rarely described. We describe a case of pulmonary cryptococcosis, presenting with bilaterally and randomly distributed nodules on a computed tomography, mimicking hematogeneous metastases. Positron emission tomography does not demonstrate 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) uptake, suggesting a low probability for malignancy, which is a crucial piece of information for clinicians when making a management decision. We find the absence of FDG uptake correlates with the pat

Pulmonary Necrobiotic Nodules at Time of Diagnosis in a Patient with Ulcerative Colitis.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is an umbrella term encompassing intestinal conditions Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC), characterized by inflammation of intestinal wall, differing in location, depth, pathophysiology, and sequela. Extraintestinal manifestations (EIM) of IBD commonly affect the skin, joints, eyes, and in rare instances, the lungs. Pulmonary involvement affects the large and small airways, serosal surface, and vasculature leading to a range of pathology, including bronchiectasis, pleural effusions, and necrobiotic nodules. The presence of EIM is uncommon at the diagn

68Ga-DOTATATE in Benign Prostate Hyperplasia.

A 79-year-old man had carcinoid syndrome and bilateral pulmonary nodules, which were biopsy confirmed as well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumor. PET/CT with Ga-[DOTA-Tyr]-octreotate (Ga-DOTATATE) showed multiple Ga-DOTATATE-avid bilateral pulmonary nodules, left hilar lymph node, as well as diffuse increased Ga-DOTATATE uptake in the prostate. A review of the history revealed that this patient had elevated prostate-specific antigen level. The prostate biopsy did not reveal evidence of prostate cancer but showed benign prostate hyperplasia.

Incidental pulmonary nodules in oral squamous cell carcinoma - A retrospective cohort study.

PURPOSE: Incidental pulmonary nodules are frequently identified on staging imaging for oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). These may represent metastases, lung primaries, or benign lesions. Existing risk stratification guidelines are not specific to head and neck cancer. This retrospective cohort study evaluated survival differences between patients with and without pulmonary nodules and explored follow-up imaging practices. METHODS: This single-centre retrospective cohort study included adults with oral mucosal SCC managed with curative intent between 2011 and 2018. Clinical, demograp

Augmented reality guided versus computed tomography guided percutaneous lung nodule localization: a noninferiority randomized clinical trial.

HYPOTHESIS: This study hypothesized that augmented reality (AR) technology has comparable accuracy and safety to conventional CT localization in guiding percutaneous transthoracic lung puncture (PTLP) to localize small pulmonary nodules. METHODS: This study was a prospective, non-inferiority randomized clinical trial. Patients were randomly assigned between 23 May 2023, and 26 September 2023. Patients with small peripheral lung nodules (≤2 cm) were recruited. Patients were randomly assigned to either the CT-guided PTLP group or the AR-guided PTLP group, with a 1:1 allocation ratio. CT combined with 3D-CTBA to analyze the vasculature around pulmonary ground glass nodules and its value in diagnosis.

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the vascular characteristics around pulmonary nodules with a diameter of 10-20mm. To explore their predictive value for the pathological nature of pulmonary nodules, computed tomography (CT) combined with three-dimensional computed tomography-bronchography and angiography (3D-CTBA) technique have been chosen as the method. METHODS: 202 patients who were treated from January 2020 to December 2022 have been studied. They were all diagnosed with pulmonary ground glass nodules (GGNs) and obtained final pathologic results at the Department of Thor

Histoplasmosis.

Histoplasmosis is the most prevalent endemic fungal infection in North America. The clinical spectrum ranges from asymptomatic, self-limited illness to a life-threatening progressive disseminated disease. Chronic manifestations of healed infection can also be problematic. Clinical presentation depends on the infectious load, underlying immune status, and lung function. The preferred diagnostic methods and treatment options vary with clinical scenario and severity of illness. New diagnostic tools and treatment options are now available in clinical practice. We present an overview of this import

Malignant pure pulmonary ground-glass opacity nodules: prognostic implications.

OBJECTIVE: This study was designed to evaluate follow-up results in terms of patient prognosis for malignant pulmonary nodules depicted as pure ground-glass opacity (GGO) lesion observed at high-resolution CT (HRCT). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Surgical removal for malignant GGO nodules was accomplished in 58 patients (26 men, 32 women; mean age, 57 years; age range, 29-78 years). Patient prognoses were assessed by patient clinical status and the presence of changes in nodule size determined after a follow-up HRCT examination. Differences in patient prognoses were compared for nodule number, size,

Pelvic and pulmonary benign metastasizing leiomyoma: A case report.

Seven years after she had a total abdominal hysterectomy for benign leiomyomas, a 46-year-old woman presented with a pelvic mass and multiple pulmonary nodules. She underwent resection of the mass and core needle biopsy of a pulmonary lesion. Histopathologic analysis revealed that both the pelvic and the pulmonary lesions were consistent with benign leiomyomas. Benign metastasizing leiomyoma should be considered if a woman of reproductive age and with a history of leiomyomas presents with extrauterine nodules without evidence of malignancy. The final diagnosis should be based on histopathologi…
