Patients' experiences of participating in a nurse-led clinic for bowel dysfunction following rectal cancer: A qualitative interview study.

BACKGROUND: An increasing number of patients survive rectal cancer, leading to a rise in the number of patients with late sequelae following surgical and oncological treatments. Consequently, the demand for information, treatment and counselling among these patients is on the rise. Nurse-led clinics, staffed by nurses with specialised expertise in Low Anterior Resection Syndrome and following structured treatment programs, are being established as part of specialised hospital departments in Denmark and other countries in an attempt to increase patient survivorship. AIM: This study aimed to ga

Social participation of patients with epidermolysis bullosa: barriers and facilitators in education, employment, and economic life - a biographic interview study.

BACKGROUND: Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) is a rare, inherited skin disorder characterized by skin fragility, leading to painful blisters and wounds. While protective measures are essential for managing EB, they can inadvertently restrict physical activity and social participation. Recognizing this dilemma, the current psychosocial care guidelines for EB emphasize the need to support social participation as a key priority. Accordingly, this study explores barriers and facilitators influencing participation in education, employment, and economic life, as conceptualized by the International Classif

Transcatheter or Surgical Treatment of Patients With Aortic Stenosis at Low to Intermediate Risk: An Individual Participant Data Meta-Analysis.

IMPORTANCE: Mounting evidence suggests transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) as preferred treatment for patients at low to intermediate surgical risk. However, limitations in study design and statistical power raise concerns about the generalizability of individual randomized clinical trials (RCTs) comparing TAVI and surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR) to routine clinical practice. OBJECTIVE: To compare 1-year outcomes of TAVI vs SAVR in patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis at low to intermediate surgical risk applying a 2-stage individual participant data (IPD) and

A 6-year prospective study on work participation and the associated factors in Dutch patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).

BACKGROUND: Previous studies showed that many patients with SLE do not have paid work. However, having paid work is important for self-esteem, social contacts and income. It is therefore important to understand the characteristics contributing to work status and in particular identifying modifiable variables to help patients with SLE and their employers to maintain work. The objective of this study is to investigate associations of demographic, disease-related and work characteristics with having and maintaining paid work for ≥ 5 years in patients with SLE over a six-year period. METHODS: All

CD305 participates in abnormal activation of memory CD4+ T cells in patients with RA and attenuates collagen-induced arthritis.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic systemic autoimmune disease that mainly affects the joints. Studies have shown that memory CD4+ T cells play an important role in the pathogenesis of RA. This study investigated the expression and function of CD305 on human memory CD4+ T cells and the effects of CD305 activating antibody on collagen-induced arthritis. The results showed that CD305 expression was significantly decreased on circulating memory CD4+ T cells from patients with RA and its mean fluorescence intensity (MFI) was negatively correlated with DAS28. Moreover, CD305 inhibited the activ

Patient-reported outcomes measures of X-linked hypophosphataemia participants: findings from a prospective cohort study in the UK.

BACKGROUND: X-linked hypophosphataemia (XLH) is a rare genetic condition passed on through the X chromosome which causes multiple symptoms including weakened teeth, bones, and muscles. Due to the rarity of the condition, little is known about the health outcomes as reported by people with the disease. The objectives of this study were threefold: to characterise key patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) in adults with XLH, to identify clusters of symptom-severity groups based on PROMs, and to analyse the longitudinal progression of available PROMs. METHODS: Data from 48 participants from t
