CONTEXT: Pituitary stalk interruption syndrome (PSIS) consists of a small/absent anterior pituitary lobe, an interrupted/absent pituitary stalk, and an ectopic posterior pituitary lobe. We report the case of a child with multiple pituitary hormone deficiencies and a truncated pituitary stalk on MR imaging who had recovery of normal secretion of pituitary hormones in early adulthood. Follow-up MR imaging examination after recovery revealed marked enlargement of the proximal pituitary stalk. The case of our patient helps to explain the mechanism whereby some patients experience recovery of hormonal function.

The sorption of lead and cadmium from aqueous solutions by grape stalk waste (a by-product of wine production) was investigated. The effects of the contact time, pH of the solution, ionic medium, initial metal concentration, other metal ions present and ligands were studied in batch experiments at 20 degrees C. Maximum sorption for both metals was found to occur at an initial pH of around 5.5. The equilibrium process was described well by the Langmuir isotherm model, with maximum grape stalk sorption capacities of 0.241 and 0.248 mmol g(-1) for Pb(II) and Cd(II), respectively, at pH around 5.5

Pituitary stalk thickening has a wide differential diagnosis, but almost all infundibular diseases present with diabetes insipidus (DI). We present a child with metastatic involvement of the pituitary stalk from a primary pontine tumour and a child with tuberculous infiltration of the pituitary stalk and associated meningeal inflammation. BACKGROUND: Osmotic demyelination syndrome (ODS) is an acute neurological disorder resulting from demyelination, typically triggered by rapid osmotic shifts. This syndrome is rare in adults and even more uncommon in children.To date, no reported cases have documented ODS secondary to hyponatremia caused by post-traumatic pituitary stalk injury.
