Clinical Effect of Superior Capsular Reconstruction With Long Head of the Biceps Tendon Autograft: Biceps Tenotomy Versus Retention in Massive Rotator Cuff Tears.

BACKGROUND: Massive rotator cuff tears (RCTs) often lead to superior migration and poor function. While superior capsular reconstruction (SCR) using the long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) autograft is a promising technique, the optimal management of its distal portion (tenotomy vs. retention) remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: To compare the clinical outcomes of SCR by a long head of the biceps tendon (LHBT) autograft with biceps tenotomy or not in massive RCTs. METHODS: In this retrospective cohort study, we enrolled and followed 59 patients following SCR using the LHBT between 2016 and 2021. P

Cannabis use disorder is associated with increased early postoperative opioid use and pain but no long-term differences after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: a retrospective cohort study using TriNetX.

BACKGROUND: Cannabis use has become increasingly common in the general population, with cannabis use disorder (CUD) defined as clinically significant impairment and/or distress related to cannabis consumption. Prior studies have associated CUD with increased postoperative pain and opioid use, but its impact following arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (RCR) remains unclear. This study aimed to compare short- and long-term surgical outcomes following RCR between patients with and without CUD. METHODS: Using the TriNetX database, we conducted a retrospective cohort study of patients who underwent

Outcomes of suture bridge repair reinforced using a biceps rerouting technique.

BACKGROUND: Many techniques are available for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, and autografts or allografts can be used in cases of poor tendon quality or large size tears. The long head of the biceps tendon is a good material for autografts. Rerouting of the biceps long head tendon during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is a good option when repair is otherwise difficult. We analyzed the clinical results and retear rates over 2 years of follow-up after rotator cuff suture bridge repair reinforced using the biceps rerouting technique in patients with large rotator cuff tears. METHODS: We re

"Surviving the dip" after subacromial balloon spacer implantation for massive rotator cuff tear treatment: a retrospective case series.

BACKGROUND: Subacromial balloon spacer implantation (SBSI) attempts to decrease glenohumeral joint (GHJ) pain and improve function in patients with an irreparable rotator cuff tear (RCT) and minimal osteoarthritis. Between 12 and 26 weeks post-SBSI, gradual implant resorption may create a "balloon dip" that decreases GHJ function and increases pain. This retrospective cohort study attempted to delineate shoulder function, active mobility, strength, pain, and functional task impairment during the "balloon dip" period. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-five consecutive patients (55.9 ± 7 years of ag

Single-row and transosseous sutures for supraspinatus tendon tears: a retrospective comparative clinical and strength outcome at 2-year follow-up.

INTRODUCTION: Rotator cuff tears commonly necessitate surgical repair; however, the optimal technique for repair continues to be investigated. Recently, double-row repairs have been considered an alternative to single-row repair, allowing a greater coverage area for healing and a possibly stronger repair. AIM: We performed a study to compare single-row repair and suture-bridge (SB) technique (a TOE technique) in terms of the recovery of the strength and functional outcome. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The purpose of the retrospective study was to compare 44 patients treated for a rotator cuff repair
