Ecometabolic mixture design-fingerprints from exploratory multi-block data analysis in Coffea arabica beans from climate changes: Elevated carbon dioxide and reduced soil water availability.

Ecometabolic mixture design-fingerprinting in coffee cultivated under climate change was chemically explored using ComDim. Multi-blocks were formed using UV, NIRS, 1H NMR, SWV, and FT-IR data. ComDim investigated all these different fingerprints according to the extractor solvent and in virtue of atmospheric CO2 increase. Ethanol and ethanol-dichloromethane showed the best separations due to CO2 environment. 1H NMR loading indicate increases of fatty acids, caffeine, trigonelline, and glucose in beans under current CO2 levels, whereas quinic acid/chlorogenic acids, malic acid, and kahweol/cafe…

Anti-allergic properties of a matured fruit extract of the date palm tree (Phoenix dactylifera L.) in mite-sensitized mice.

The effects of oral ingestion of a hot water extract of matured fruit of the date palm tree (Phoenix dactylifera L.) on allergic responses w … significantly lower in mice given the date extract-added diet than in those given the control diet. Chlorogenic acid, pelargonin and ferulic acid significantly reduced the number of IgE(+)B220(+) cells, while chlorogenic acid and pelargonin significantly decreased the number of FcεRIα(+)CD117(+) cells in mouse spleen cell cultures. These results suggest that some …

Green coffee seed residue: A sustainable source of antioxidant compounds.

Oil extraction from green coffee seeds generates residual mass that is discarded by agribusiness and has not been previously studied. Bioactive secondary metabolites in coffee include antioxidant phenolic compounds, such as chlorogenic acids. Coffee seeds also contain caffeine, a pharmaceutically important methylxanthine. Here, we report the chemical profile, antioxidant activity, and cytotoxicity of hydroethanolic extracts of green Coffea arabica L. seed residue. The extracts of the green seeds and the residue have similar chemical profiles, containing the phenolic compounds chlorogenic acid …

Phytochemical analysis and antioxidant capacity of Tabernaemontana catharinensis A. DC. Fruits and branches.

The antioxidant capacity of the crude extract and fractions of Tabernaemontana catharinensis fruits and branches, was evaluated by the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method and the content of polyphenols, flavonoids, alkaloids and condensed tannins were determined by the spectrophotometric method. The ethyl acetate fraction of the fruits and the n-butanol fraction of the branches showed IC50 of 181.82 µg/mL and 78.19 µg/mL, respectively. All fractions were analyzed by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), in the branches were quantified chlorogenic acid in the chloroform (8.96 m…

Green valorization of avocado pits waste via intermittent pressurized liquid extraction: Phenolic profiling, antioxidant activity, and pH-dependent color stability of six Brazilian cultivars.

This study investigated intermittent process of pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) as a green strategy for recovering bioactive compounds f … ol TE/g d.w). UHPLC-MS analyses revealed phenolic profiles dominated by vanillic acid, catechin and chlorogenic acid. Multivariate analysis demonstrated stronger correlations between antioxidant capacity and specific phenolic compounds (apigenin, catechin, and chlorogenic acid). Molecular docking of potential inhibitors for influenza H7N9.

As a new strain of virus emerged in 2013, avian influenza A (H7N9) virus is a threat to the public health, due to its high lethality and pathogenicity. Furthermore, H7N9 has already generated various mutations such as neuraminidase R294K mutation which could make the anti-influenza oseltamivir less effective or ineffective. In this regard, it is urgent to develop new effective anti-H7N9 drug. In this study, we used the general H7N9 neuraminidase and oseltamivir-resistant influenza virus neuraminidase as the acceptors and employed the small molecules including quercetin, chlorogenic acid, baica…

Influence of coffee genotype on bioactive compounds and the in vitro capacity to scavenge reactive oxygen and nitrogen species.

The influence of green coffee genotype on the bioactive compounds and the in vitro antioxidant capacity against the principal reactive oxygen (ROO(•), H2O2, HO(•), and HOCl) and nitrogen (NO(•) and ONOO(-)) species of biological relevance was investigated. This is the first report on the capacity of green coffee to scavenge H2O2, HOCl, and NO(•). Variations in the contents of total chlorogenic acids (22.9-37.9 g/100 g), cinnamoyl-amino acid conjugates (0.03-1.12 g/100 g), trigonelline (3.1-6.7 g/100 g), and caffeine (3.9-11.8 g/100 g) were found. Here, we combine quantitative phytochemistry, validated rodent pharmacology, and multi-target molecular modeling to explore the analgesic and anti-inflammatory potential of a Moroccan ecotype. HPLC-PDA analysis of the hydro-ethanolic extract (yield 14.8%) identified 15 phenolics, dominated by chlorogenic acid (26.5%), caffeic acid (18.8%), and p-coumaric acid (12.8%). Targeting Matrix Metalloproteinase-3 for Dental Caries Prevention Using Herbal Isolates: MMP3 Inhibition by Cinnamic Acids.

Objectives: Dental caries, a prevalent infectious disease affecting teeth, ranks highest among 328 diseases, according to a 2017 Lancet study. In demineralized human dentin, matrix metalloproteinase-3 (MMP3) functions as a proteoglycanase, contributing to the degradation of proteoglycan components. This process exposes collagen fibrils, thereby facilitating the demineralization of the dentin matrix. Inhibiting MMP3 shows potential for preventing dental caries. Methods: The binding affinity of 20 cinnamic acid derivatives, namely cynarin, chlorogenic acid, rosmarinic acid, cinnamyl caffeate, ph…

Development of pH-adjusted NMR methodology for quantitation of caffeoylquinic acid derivatives and evaluation of their antimalignant pleural mesothelioma potential.

Quantitative analysis of caffeoylquinic acids (CQAs) is challenging due to their structural similarities and susceptibility to isomerization and degradation. To overcome these limitations, a pH-adjusted quantitative 1H NMR (qHNMR) method is proposed for evaluating different CQAs in the extracts using a MeOD/HEPES-d18 buffer. This method was applied to measure the concentrations of chlorogenic acid (1) and 3,5-di-CQA (4) in Cuscuta japonica extract, and of chlorogenic acid (1) in green coffee bean extracts. A comparison of quantum mechanics (QM)-based and non-quantum mechanics-based approaches …

Antibacterial and antibiofilm effects of natural phenolic acids: Insights into structure-function relationships, extracellular pH, and morphological changes.

UNLABELLED: Wound infections are a challenging healthcare burden against which treatment is hindered by the presence of biofilms and the rise in antibacterial resistance. Associations between Fruit Mineral Composition and Polyphenol Profiles across 140 Dessert Apple Cultivars (Malus domestica).

Apple polyphenols are key determinants of fruit quality and potential health-related properties, yet their association with fruit mineral composition remains insufficiently characterized at the cultivar scale. We quantified five minerals (K, S, P, Mg, Ca) by ICP-OES and 13 polyphenol variables by HPLC-MS across 140 dessert apple cultivars (Malus domestica) grown under common conditions. FDR-corrected Pearson correlations revealed selective, compound-specific patterns, with potassium and phosphorus showing the strongest positive associations with chlorogenic acid (K: r = 0.55, q = 1.2 × 10-10; …
