Analysing published global Ebola Virus Disease research using social network analysis.

INTRODUCTION: The 2014/2015 West African Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak attracted global attention. Numerous opinions claimed that the global response was impaired, in part because, the EVD research was neglected, although quantitative or qualitative studies did not exist. Our objective was to analyse how the EVD research landscape evolved by exploring the existing research network and its communities before and during the outbreak in West Africa. METHODS/ PRINCIPAL FINDINGS: Social network analysis (SNA) was used to analyse collaborations between institutions named by co-authors as affil

Report of a collaborative study to calibrate the Second International Standard for parvovirus B19 antibody.

A collaborative study was undertaken to assess the suitability of a replacement for the First International Standard for parvovirus B19 IgG, human serum and to calibrate it in IU. The proposed standard, which is a pool of sera from 16 US blood donors, was assayed along with the First International Standard, a coded duplicate of the proposed standard and a plasma sample from a single blood donor. Nine laboratories from eight countries participated in the studies and five different assay kits were used. Two kits contained VP1+VP2, one kit contained VP1 only and two kits, one of which was used by

Non-rhabdomyosarcoma Soft Tissue Sarcoma.

Non-rhabdomyosarcoma soft tissue sarcomas (NRSTS) is a diverse group of soft tissue sarcomas with a wide range of behavior, presentation, and response to treatment. As most NRSTS are not responsive to chemotherapy, surgery remains the cornerstone of treatment and excellent outcomes for low-risk tumors can be achieved with surgery alone. The prognosis for high-risk, metastatic, or advanced tumors remains poor despite aggressive multi-modal treatment and new treatment modalities are needed. Studying NRSTS as a combined classification in cooperative group trials has been successful in identifying

Neural signatures of context-dependent trust: How strategic interaction and social value orientation shape prosocial decisions.

Trust is a cornerstone of human cooperation, yet it unfolds differently depending on who we interact with and under what circumstances. Understanding how the brain integrates social traits and contextual demands is key to explaining why we sometimes choose to trust-and sometimes refrain. Although prior studies have identified neural regions involved in trust, it remains unclear how dispositional factors, such as Social Value Orientation (SVO), interact with the strategic context of the decision. Few experiments have jointly manipulated both partner characteristics and game structure, limiting

Spectroscopic quantification of aggregation-dependent spectral changes in phthalocyanines: a metric framework and CORRELATO validation.

Concentration-dependent spectral changes in functional dyes are critical for optoelectronic applications yet remain poorly quantified. Here, we introduce a physically meaningful metric system based on UV-Vis spectroscopic data that translates spectral behavior into compact descriptors by decoupling underlying amplification and attenuation processes. Systematic extinction studies on six novel 2,3-dibenzyloxy-tert-butyl-substituted phthalocyanines (3a-f) with varied central ions (metal-free, Mg, Zn, Cu, Ni, Co) reveal three distinct types of concentration behavior predicted by the electronic str

Efficient Synergistic Cooperation of an Arginine-Rich Peptide and Copper Ions in Sodium Urate Crystallization Inhibition.

Although many studies have focused on the role of individual biomolecules or metal ions in the crystallization behavior of sodium urate, the regulatory effects of multiple molecular species still remain mysterious. The synergistic cooperation of biomolecules and metal ions may contribute to unprecedented regulatory effects. Here, the cooperative effect of arginine-rich peptides (APs) and copper ions on the phase behavior, crystallization kinetics, and size/morphology of urate crystals was first investigated. Compared with the individual copper ion and AP, the nucleation induction time of sodiu

Rethinking reciprocity.

Reciprocity theory holds a hallowed status in evolutionary social sciences because it provides a way to explain cooperation among unrelated individuals. Theorists have developed a large body of mathematical work based on the iterated prisoner's dilemma game that explores which strategies are evolutionarily stable in a range of conditions, including scenarios involving behavioral errors. However, there is a mismatch between the vigorous pace of theoretical research and the trickle of empirical studies that have tested predictions generated by the theoretical work. Furthermore, findings from the

Impacts of cooperative hunting and Allee effect on the dynamics of a three-species system with sexually reproducing top predators.

This study investigates the complex dynamics of a tri-trophic predator-prey system incorporating the Allee effect in prey, cooperative hunting by mesopredators, and sexual reproduction in the apex predator. Using bifurcation analysis and numerical simulations, we examine how these factors-individually or combinedly-shape ecosystem stability, both in the presence and absence of the top predator. In the absence of the apex predator, species survival depends critically on prey's productivity and mesopredator cooperation strength: lower values lead to extinction, while moderate prey growth support

Prediction of Crowd Behavior in Holy Sites: Psychological, Social, and Risk Perception Factors among Pilgrims .

BACKGROUND: Large religious gatherings such as Hajj involve complex psychological and social processes that influence pilgrims' experiences and crowd behavior. This study examined risk perception, psychosocial factors, and adaptive crowd behavior among pilgrims, explored the relationships among these variables, and evaluated their predictive contribution to crowd behavior. METHODS: A descriptive, correlational, and predictive cross-sectional design was employed. A purposive sample of 407 pilgrims completed validated measures of risk perception, psychosocial factors, and crowd behavior. Descri

Age-Dependent Labor Division and Behavioral Characteristics in Vespa velutina nigrithorax (Hymenoptera: Vespidae) Under Laboratory Conditions.

Eusocial insects maintain their colonies through diverse cooperative tasks, yet patterns among these behaviors remain poorly understood in hornets. To examine temporal polyethism, we observed a Vespa velutina nigrithorax colony under controlled laboratory conditions (26 °C, 60% RH). Workers were categorized into 5-day cohorts and monitored across five tasks: nest hygiene, prey foraging and first pellet handling, second pellet handling, brood feeding, and foraging for nest materials. Adult emergence occurred in three synchronized cohorts. Workers began to transition to tasks outside of the nest

Interpersonal brain synchronization in the right temporo-parietal junction during face-to-face economic exchange.

In daily life, interpersonal interactions are influenced by uncertainty about other people's intentions. Face-to-face (FF) interaction reduces such uncertainty by providing external visible cues such as facial expression or body gestures and facilitates shared intentionality to promote belief of cooperative decisions and actual cooperative behaviors in interaction. However, so far little is known about interpersonal brain synchronization between two people engaged in naturally occurring FF interactions. In this study, we combined an adapted ultimatum game with functional near-infrared spectros…

Human factors considerations for safe and scalable human-robot collaboration in construction: A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: Robotic systems are increasingly being introduced into construction to address persistent safety challenges, limited productivity growth, and skilled labor shortages. However, the collaboration between humans and robots introduces new interaction dynamics that can reshape human behavioral state and responses. While prior reviews have examined construction robotics from technological, application, and adoption perspectives, a construction-specific synthesis that systematically consolidates human factors across Human-Robot Collaboration (HRC) contexts remains limited. METHOD: This

Interprofessional teams and capacity in collaborative primary care: a rapid scoping review.

PURPOSE: Interprofessional team-based primary care models are pursued often as a means to improve access to primary care services and increase capacity within the health system for more patients to be served. However, this relationship has not been previously synthesized in the available literature. Our objective was to investigate what is and is not known about the impact of interprofessional primary care teams on the most responsible clinician's capacity to serve more patients. METHODS: We conducted a rapid scoping review of literature published between 2000 and 2023 using MEDLINE. Eligibil

"With a little help from my friends" - collaborating with community experts to improve sampling and obtain a high response rate for a statewide naloxone availability survey.

BACKGROUND: Research and advocacy emphasize the importance of naloxone saturation not just in terms of how much naloxone is distributed but also to whom, by whom, and how it is distributed. Given the nuanced ways in which naloxone is distributed, community experts involved with naloxone distribution and harm reduction work can help researchers better assess naloxone availability. The objective of this paper is to describe collaborating with community experts to obtain a diverse sample and high response rate of a statewide survey investigating community-based naloxone availability. METHODS: Thi

Integrated Evidence Generation Planning: Why Medical Affairs is a Critical Partner.

In an era of rapidly evolving healthcare systems and escalating demands for value demonstration, pharmaceutical companies face unprecedented pressure to generate robust, relevant evidence for a diverse array of stakeholders. Traditional, siloed approaches to evidence generation are no longer sufficient. The development and use of integrated evidence generation plans (IEGPs) have emerged as strategic imperatives-reshaping how organisations align scientific, regulatory and patient-centred objectives across the product life cycle. The IEGPs bring together evidence-generation activities across fun

Accrediting Together: Lessons From Canada's First Multi-Governed Ontario Health Team Accreditation Collaborative.

This paper describes how the Huron Perth and Area Ontario Health Team implemented a multi-partner, single-survey accreditation collaborative across independently governed organizations. By reframing accreditation as a system-level integration strategy, the collaborative aligned governance, policies and quality improvement efforts across sectors. Key lessons highlight the importance of shared governance, trust, continuous improvement and coordinated leadership. Evidence shows reduced duplication, improved policy consistency and enhanced system-level risk visibility. The model demonstrates how c

Holding Complex Spaces Through Relational Work: A Qualitative Descriptive Study of Co-Design Facilitation.

INTRODUCTION: Involving patients and the public in healthcare research, development and innovation is becoming mandatory. Co-design is a structured approach to collaboratively investigating and finding solutions to complex problems that brings together relevant actors and interest groups. Including experiences and insights from patients and the public in multi-actor co-design processes can help to generate and evaluate solutions to complex problems. While toolkits support co-design project organisation, little is known about the relational work required when facilitating co-design workshops, e

Collaboration Between Nursing and Music Therapy.

Music therapy, an established health profession guided by evidence-based research, uses music to address patients' biopsychosocial needs. Nursing staff are vital in the delivery of music therapy services for their patients. A limited body of research exists about nurse's perceptions and attitudes toward music therapy. Professional development specialists can help guide nurses in collaborating with music therapists. This column describes how this collaboration can benefit music therapy services and improve patient care.

The AI Colleague: Reimagining Interprofessional Collaboration and Education in Medicine.

AI is no longer confined to optional decision support; it is becoming a routine presence in clinical workflows, shaping diagnostic hypotheses, triage priorities, risk estimates, and documentation. Yet most educational responses still treat AI as a tool operated by an individual clinician. This framing underestimates how AI reshapes the actual unit of practice: the interprofessional team. We propose the concept of AI-expanded interprofessional collaboration (AI-IPC), in which AI systems function as consequential participants in team cognition-not as moral agents, but as sources of recommendatio
