Endoscopic extruded screw removal after anterior cervical disc fusion: technical case report.

OBJECTIVE AND IMPORTANCE: Symptomatic complications related to screw migration and extrusion after anterior cervical disc fusion are uncommon. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: We report a case of significant dysphagia owing to late screw migration. INTERVENTION: An endoscopic transpharyngeal removal was performed without pharyngeal closure and with relief of symptoms. CONCLUSION: A transpharyngeal endoscopic approach to remove loose anterior cervical hardware is feasible and warrants further evaluation.

Orthognathic Surgical Treatment in a Patient With Hyperimmunoglobulin E Syndrome.

Autosomal-dominant hyperimmunoglobulin E syndrome (HIES), or Job syndrome, is a rare, multisystem, primary immunodeficiency disorder. Additi … tive course was complicated by significant infection, requiring multiple operations and ultimately, hardware removal after bone healing. Although this patient ultimately had a good outcome, the role of orthognathic surgery with implant placement in patients with HIES should be approached with caution and careful consideration.

Avoiding pitfalls in craniofacial reconstruction using absorbable plates.

Rigid internal fixation devices are a mainstay in craniofacial surgery. The advent of absorbable plates has been a monumental advancement and has proven to be a safe and effective method of osteofixation. It has been proposed that many problems of the permanent metallic implants can be avoided by the use of resorbable plates. Exposure is thought to be secondary to tissue tension over the plates and breakdown of the overlying tissue envelope. This a report of 2 cases of craniosynostosis reconstruction with absorbable plate exposure through overlying skin incisions necessitating plate removal an

[Pacemaker infection in fragile patients].

Complications associated with cardiac implantable electric devices (CIED) are manifold. They include lead dislocation, twiddler's syndrome, device malfunction, haematoma formation and infection. Infections can be divided into acute, subacute and late infections. Both the time of onset and the route of infection play a crucial role. The consequences of a CIED infection are devastating. The most modern treatment methods include the removal of all implanted implants. If complete removal is not followed in the event of infection, there is a high rate of infection recurrence. Intraoperative Guidewire Breakage During Proximal Femoral Nailing Managed Through Direct Anterior Approach: A Case Report and Review of Literature.

CASE: We report a rare intraoperative complication during proximal femoral nailing for an intertrochanteric femur fracture in a 54-year-old male. During helical blade preparation, the guidewire migrated intra-articularly and fractured during withdrawal. Retention risked cartilage damage, while retrieval through the blade tract was unsuitable and threatened implant stability. With the nail in situ, safe surgical dislocation was not feasible. The fragment was successfully removed through an direct anterior approach. At 14 months follow-up the patient had returned to his pre injury activity level

Delayed single-stage surgical management using a peroneus brevis muscle flap for fracture-related infection after lateral malleolus fixation: a retrospective case series.

BACKGROUND: Fracture-related infection (FRI) following lateral malleolus fracture fixation complicated by soft tissue breakdown represents a challenging clinical problem with no established standard of care. This study evaluates a treatment strategy consisting of prolonged antibiotic suppression until fracture union, followed by delayed single-stage surgical management. METHODS: This retrospective consecutive case series included 11 patients treated between 2020 and 2023 at a multidisciplinary orthopaedic infection unit. All patients were managed according to a standardized protocol involving
