OBJECTIVE: To summarize the strategies and treatment methods in correcting the maltracking of patellofemoral joints in the total knee arthroplasty (TKA).
METHODS: From January 2000 to May 2007, the methods of releasing lateral retinaculum and tightening medial retinaculum of patellar, adjusting the position of the tibial prothesis properly and shifting the lateral 1/2 insertion inward to the medial side of patellar tendon, and reconstructing the patellar tendon insertion were used in correcting the maltracking of patellofemoral joints when the TKA was conducted for 49 knee joints of 48 cases.…

The effects of iontophoretically applied dexamethasone in a lidocaine vehicle were compared with those of saline placebo in 53 patients with one of three diagnoses of painful temporomandibular joint pathologic conditions: disk displacement with reduction, disk displacement without reduction, and osteoarthritis. Both dexamethasone and the saline placebo produced a significant reduction in pain scores from baseline levels after the first two of three treatments. There were no observed differences, however, in pain report or mandibular range of motion between the dexamethasone and placebo groups.

A late complication of fracture with dislocation involving the tarsometatarsal joints of the foot (Lisfranc fracture) is progressive degenerative arthritis and pain. A dowel-graft arthrodesis technique is described that uses percutaneous bone graft from the iliac crest supplemented by crossed-wire fixation. The literature reports contradictory findings concerning the relationship between structural hard-tissue changes and internal derangement of the temporomandibular joint. A consecutive series of 44 patients with septic arthritis of finger joints is presented. The patients were treated with antibiotics, incision, debridement and usually drainage. Two cases of chronic renal failure are presented in which a large joint severe erosive arthritis was the prominent radiologic feature of their renal osteodystrophy. In one both knees were involved, and in the other both knees and one wrist. Distal clavicular erosions were present in both, but hands were not radiographically involved. The literature is reviewed in regards other reports of erosive arthritis complicating renal failure.

Radiographs of the hands and feet of 72 haemophilic patients were reviewed for peripheral joint involvement. This study shows that after intra-articular injection, aurothiomalate and colloidal gold of small (200 A) particle size were rapidly absorbed from joints while the larger, 300 A, particle size colloidal radioactive gold could not be found outside them.
