Integrating vaginal laser therapy into multidisciplinary management of bladder pain syndrome and vulvodynia.

BACKGROUND: Bladder pain syndrome/interstitial cystitis (BPS/IC) and vulvodynia frequently co-occur, forming overlapping pelvic pain syndromes that often evade organ-centered management. Shared mechanisms—urothelial/epithelial dysfunction, neuroinflammation, and pelvic floor hypertonicity—support multidisciplinary, mechanism-based care. Because high-quality clinical evidence specifically targeting the BPS/IC + vulvodynia overlap remains limited, this narrative review also evaluates laser-based therapies in clinically adjacent conditions with shared anatomy and pathophysiology (e.g., genitourin

Label-free and real-time assessment of 660 nm red light photobiomodulation induced molecular alterations in human adipose derived mesenchymal stem cells using micro Raman spectroscopy.

Therapeutic applications involving mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) encounter challenges of attaining therapeutically potent and scaled up number during in-vitro batch culture. Recently, photobiomodulation (PBM) has emerged as a non-pharmacological method for enhancing MSC number, potency, and secretome production. However, the absence of a versatile, non-invasive technique to accurately identify PBM-induced biochemical alterations hinders the clinical translation of the approach. Raman spectroscopy (RS) can be a potential solution to this challenge. In this study, we demonstrate the utility of m

Effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy and occlusal splints in the treatment of bruxism in children: A systematic review.

Untreated sleep bruxism (SB) can cause damage to the stomatognathic system, potentially reducing academic performance in children and negatively affecting their quality of life. Occlusal splints are considered the gold standard for the treatment of bruxism in children; however, they present many limitations, prompting the search for alternative therapies. Laser therapy has been proposed as a more favorable, painless and cost-effective treatment option for pediatric patients. Therefore, the aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) and occlusal spl

Transcranial Photobiomodulation Variables Assessment Battery: Development and Validation.

Transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM) response variability is partly driven by biophysical characteristics such as skin tone and hair properties that attenuate photon penetration, and by lifestyle factors including sleep quality, alcohol use, and nicotine consumption that disrupt the mitochondrial and vascular pathways on which tPBM acts. To date, no validated self-report tool exists to capture these moderators systematically. To address this gap, the tPBM Variables Assessment Battery was developed and psychometrically evaluated. It integrates adapted versions of established measures (Brief P

Non-invasive brain stimulation to prevent aging-related diseases: What does photobiomodulation offer compared with other methods.

The issue of the maintenance of cognitive and brain health across ageing is a striking concern in our ageing societies. Non-invasive brain stimulation methods have been proposed as tools to fight against various neurological pathologies and to this aim, could also be used against age-related brain changes. In this chapter, we examine the potential of transcranial photobiomodulation (tPBM), in comparison with other neurostimulation methods, to improve brain function and protect neurons. In particular, it is hypothesised that the double action of tPBM - both on neuronal function and at a more sy

A systematic review of therapeutic procedures for the treatment of morphea and systemic sclerosis.

Considering the challenges involved in managing morphea and systemic sclerosis—especially the risks of disease reactivation and inflammation following treatment—and the limited evidence on the effectiveness and safety of treatment methods like energy-based devices and intralesional injections, it is essential to conduct a systematic review to compile and critically evaluate the available data comprehensively. This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of energy-based devices and intralesional injections in managing morphea and systemic sclerosis, to provide critical evidence tha

Pulsed-dye laser therapy for successful management of refractory neurogenic rosacea.

Neurogenic rosacea (NR) poses a therapeutic challenge due to its resistance to conventional treatments. This study explores the efficacy of pulsed-dye laser (PDL) therapy in managing NR. We present two cases of NR with severe facial discomfort and photoaging, treated with PDL alongside oral medications. Remarkably, PDL significantly alleviated pain and improved skin appearance in both cases, with sustained relief for over 2 years. Mechanistically, PDL may modulate neuropeptides and nerve fiber density implicated in NR pathogenesis. Our findings suggest PDL as a promising therapeutic avenue for

Alopecia areata treated using CO2 fractional laser with different parameters.

Since the introduction of CO2 fractional laser in dermatology, multiple clinical evidences have shown its effectiveness in treating alopecia areata(AA). However, the extent of efficacy remains under-researched, with a lack of extensive and large-scale comparisons, which is a topic of global discussion. We present a case of a 13-year-old male child with AA. After taking '10 mg oral prednisone acetate' three times daily, applying' compound Siyadan ointment' twice daily, and receiving CO2 fractional laser treatment with different parameters on different area once a month. After three months of tr

The role of low-level laser therapy in Alzheimer's disease: a review of the potential benefits of vitamin D enhancement.

As the global population ages, neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer's disease (AD), have become a major public health concern. AD is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder, accounting for 60-80% of cases, and is characterized by progressive cognitive and memory decline due to neuronal loss. Current pharmacological treatments primarily offer symptomatic relief rather than a cure. Recent research has highlighted the role of vitamin D in neuroprotection, owing to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective properties, as well as its ability to maintain blood-brain

Immediate Tissue Responses to Multipulse Low Fluence Laser Treatment in a Chorioallantoic Membrane Model of Port Wine Birthmarks.

OBJECTIVES: The standard Port Wine Stains (PWS) treatment involves using single pulse high fluence (SPHF) laser therapy, which often leads to discomfort and requires multiple sessions. According to the Arrhenius theory, employing multiple pulses with low fluence (MPLF) that have lower peak power could potentially reduce pain while still achieving the therapeutic goals. This study aims to explore the potential of MPLF at 530 nm in achieving the desired clinical endpoints in treating PWS. Additionally, it seeks to validate the predictions of the Arrhenius theory regarding thermal denaturation ag

Increased Salivary Flow Using Photobiomodulation Therapy in a Patient With Sjögren's Syndrome: A Case Report.

OBJECTIVES: Sjögren's syndrome (SS) is an autoimmune disorder that affects multiple systems, including hypofunction of salivary and lacrimal glands, associated with xerostomia and keratoconjunctivitis sicca. Current treatments for SS aim to alleviate symptoms and prevent complications by providing therapeutic support to patients. In this context, photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT) with low-level laser has demonstrated efficacy in managing conditions associated with reduced salivary flow, including SS. METHODS: This study reports a case of a 17-year-old female patient diagnosed with SS who unde

A novel investigational preclinical model to assess fluence rate for dental oral craniofacial tissues.

OBJECTIVE: Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) and Photobiomodulation (PBM) are recognized for their potential in treating head and neck conditions. The heterogeneity of human tissue optical properties presents a challenge for effective dosimetry. The porcine mandible cadaver serves as an excellent model and has several similarities to human tissues of the dental oral craniofacial complex. This study aims to validate a novel modeling system that will help refine PDT and PBM dosimetry for the head and neck region. METHODS AND MATERIALS: Light transmission was analyzed through several tissue combination

Scientific validation of clinical visual scales and Antera 3D™ consistency with derived measurements in the assessment of infantile haemangioma after laser therapy.

BACKGROUND: Laser therapy is a treatment for infantile haemangiomas. The efficacy of laser therapy for red lesions is determined by visual evaluation; however, this assessment is inaccurate and lacks objectivity. OBJECTIVE: To scientifically validate the consistency between pre- and post-treatment visual assessment grades for infantile haemangioma treated with pulsed dye laser (PDL) and the values calculated from images obtained with Antera 3D™. METHODS: This study involved 81 cases of infantile haemangiomas treated with PDL alone from 2012 to 2015 and with Antera 3D™ images of the lesions.
