OBJECTIVES: Vertical proportions of the face are important determining factors for diagnosis and planning appropriate orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic patients have different vertical and sagittal skeletal discrepancies, as well as associated varying degrees of dentoalveolar compensations. Dentoalveolar is a functional component of the jaw; it plays a role in occlusal dynamics and forms sagittal and vertical maxilla-mandibula relationships. This study aims to analyze the relationship between dentoalveolar heights and several vertical skeletal patterns in patients with Class I malocclusion in

A single-tooth implant in the esthetic region has good potential for success, but it is still challenging to restore multiple-tooth defects … etic result in adjacent multiple-tooth-replacement cases. In situations with periodontal bone loss, orthodontic extrusion is required to create the underlying bone support for the papilla that is necessary to guarantee predictability.

Impaction or retention of first and second permanent molars is an uncommon condition with diverse therapeutic approaches. To ascertain the success rate of different treatment possibilities, a retrospective study was made of 25 patients with a total of 43 permanent molars with eruption disturbances. In most cases, the nonerupted teeth were mandibular second molars (65%), followed by maxillary second molars (21%). Their position, degree of impaction (inclusion), clinical features, repercussion on the neighboring teeth, type of treatment, and outcome were evaluated. Infraocclusion was often assoc

OBJECTIVE: To explore the three-dimensional (3D) displacement patterns of maxillary molar distalization using clear aligners (CA) under four anchorage designs and provide clinical guidelines for optimal traction methods.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 3D finite element model was constructed based on CBCT and digital models from an adult patient requiring maxillary molar distalization. The model included cortical bone, cancellous bone, periodontal ligament, teeth, CA, and mini-screws. Four anchorage designs were simulated during sequential distal movement of bilateral maxillary second molars, first

PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of ferrule preparation length on the fracture resistance after simulated surgical crown lengthening and after forced tooth eruption of endodontically-treated teeth restored with a carbon fiber-reinforced post-and-core system.
METHODS: 40 extracted endodontically-treated mandibular first premolars were decoronated 1.0 mm coronal to the buccal cemento-enamel junction. The teeth were divided randomly into five equal groups. The control group had no ferrule preparation (Group A). Simulated crown lengthening provided ferrule preparations of 1.0 mm (Group B) and 2.0

Bi-maxillary protrusion in adolescent patients has traditionally been treated by extraction of the four first premolars and retraction ofthe anterior teeth. The ectopic eruption of the maxiIlary permanent canines is a frequently encountered clinical problem. Orthodontic treatment of the impacted teeth remains a challenge for clinicians. If it is associated with other dental and skeletalproblems, there will be further complications to the treatment plan. In such cases, if we extract canines, then problems with this approach are restricted to anatomical and functional limitations ofpremolars sub

As the use of dental implants has become more common, so has the frequency of complications and unforeseen outcomes. This article describes the treatment of a complex iatrogenic defect secondary to a failed implant (No. 7) and multiple bone-grafting attempts in the maxillary anterior region. The patient's revealing smile line and high-risk circumstances demanded the use of an interdisciplinary treatment approach with high potential for predictable esthetic results. Forced eruption was performed to restore the alveolar height deficit and develop the compromised hard and soft tissues around teet

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate a possible correlation between treatment time and the distance covered by the canine tip during forced eruption of impacted maxillary canines. We also addressed the question whether it is possible to estimate the treatment time based on this data.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Orthopantomograms of 57 juvenile patients below 18 years of age with at least one palatally impacted canine were examined. We determined the position of the canine in relation to the neighboring teeth, its axial inclination and distance to the occlusal plane. We also introduced

BACKGROUND: In orthodontic treatment, the combination of an activator with a headgear is commonly used in treatment of the hyperdivergent Class II malocclusion. However, the distribution of stresses transmitted to the maxilla by these appliances has been little studied. This study aimed to compare the biomechanical effects of stresses transmitted to the maxilla and teeth by a Teuscher activator (TA) for different lines of action of extraoral force, using finite element analysis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A tridimensional finite element model of the maxilla and teeth was created based on the true

Initial clinical experience with distraction osteogenesis has demonstrated the risk of developing postdistraction malocclusion that requires secondary orthodontic correction. In addition, optimal mandibular form is not always achieved. Both animal studies and preliminary clinical investigations have suggested that the regenerate can be successfully "molded" during active mandibular distraction. The authors have applied this concept clinically to obtain a more desirable occlusal relationship in a group of mandibular distraction patients. Eleven patients are described in whom angulation of the d

BACKGROUND: Successful treatment of patients with multiple bilateral impactions can be an orthodontic challenge, but few reports on treatment planning and execution exist.
CASE PRESENTATION: In this case report, we describe the successful orthodontic treatment of a 16.3-year old female patient without systemic or genetic disease with initially nine persisting deciduous and nine impacted permanent teeth with complete root formation and closed apices in both jaws. After extraction of the deciduous and surgical exposure of the impacted permanent teeth, the Easy-Way-Coil™ system was used in conju

There are rare cases of impacted permanent central incisors with dilacerations, a dental deformity characterized by pronounced angulations of the longitudinal tooth axis. Impaction of maxillary canines is an orthodontic anomaly that causes facial and dentoalveolar system problems, both functional and esthetic. A combination of surgery and orthodontics is important in bringing impacted teeth to their ideal position in the dental arch. This is a case report of a 10-year-old patient with impacted and dilacerated right central incisor and impacted left maxillary canine, following surgical exposure

With the advances in adhesive technology, dentists have gained great popularity with their esthetics treatment options. The enamel and partially dentin adhesive systems have proved their potential effect. This study presents the multidisciplinary approach in the treatment of subgingivally fractured anterior teeth. Empress II crowns were cemented entirely on the prepared root portion of a left maxillary lateral incisor and canine after orthodontic eruption. The clinical results after 2 years were successful.
