METHODS: The study cohort comprised individuals aged 40 years and above who took part in the Andhra Pradesh Eye Disease Study (APEDS1) during 1996-2000. BACKGROUND/AIMS: Ophthalmic artery chemosurgery (OAC) has changed the face of retinoblastoma treatment and led to a higher rate of globe salvage. The introduction of intravitreal chemotherapy (IVitC) has further enhanced globe salvage with increased success in treatment of intravitreal seeds. Our group has seen success at treating non-vitreous disease that is refractory to OAC using IVitC. This study was undertaken to quantify and report on this success.
METHODS: A retrospective review was used to identify patients treated with IVitC for indications other than vitreous seeds from two centres.

We determined the "normal" central corneal thickness (CCT) value in human corneas based on reported literature values for within-study average CCT values, and used this as a reference to assess the reported impact of physiological variables (especially age and diurnal effects), contact lens wear, pharmaceuticals, ocular disease, and ophthalmic surgery on CCT. With the expected CCT and its variance defined, it should be possible to determine the potential impact of differences in CCT in intraocular pressure (IOP) assessments, especially by applanation tonometry, using a meta-analysis approach.

INTRODUCTION: The introduction of penicillamine in the treatment of Wilson's disease (hepatolenticular degeneration) was a historical event [1]. D-pericillamine (d-PAM) showed some potential side effects such as myasthenia, kidney toxicity, etc. In previous decade the treatment of Wilson's disease (WD) with zinc sulphate started successfully [4]. Danks [7] described the use of exchanged transfusions, peritoneal dialysis and plasmapheresis in the treatment of young patients with WD in acute liver failure. These patients had acute copper poisoning. The results of this study were beneficial.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the long-term efficacy of phacoemulsification combined with trabeculectomy (Phaco-Trab) for advanced chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) with cataract.
METHODS: Patients with advanced chronic PACG coexisting with cataracts who underwent Phaco-Trab were enrolled. The morphologic structures of filtering blebs, including characteristics under slit-lamp examination, anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT), and in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM), were used to evaluate the filtering function.
RESULTS: A total of 30 eyes from 27 patients were enrolled.
