This is a report on the clinical courses and pathological findings in two gay male patients with acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) infected in Japan. Case 1. A 39 year-old Japanese homosexual male was diagnosed as amebic dysentery complicated with liver abscess on admission. He was placed on Metronidazole with complete relief. Serological tests was positive for AIDS. On second admission, he was found to have pneumocystis carinii pneumonia (PCP) and cytomegalo-viral uveitis. BACKGROUND AND IMPORTANCE: Stereotactic biopsies or needle aspirations of posterior fossa lesions are technically challenging. Here we report a novel technique for performing these procedures employing the Airo™ intraoperative computed tomographic (CT) scanner and the VarioGuide™ articulated arm (BrainLab, Munich, Germany).
CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 62-yr-old woman presented with an irregularly shaped, enhancing lesion of the left pons/middle cerebellar peduncle. Slowed diffusion on magnetic resonance imaging suggested an abscess, but no definitive infectious agent/source could be identified.

The purpose of this study was to review the incidence of complicated suppurative otitis media in 10 years at a tertiary referral university hospital. During this period, 3,364 patients with suppurative otitis media (acute and chronic) were admitted to the department. The number of patients presenting with complications was 422 (12.54%). In two cases of entrapment of the temporal horn, computed tomography demonstrated the typical appearance of a comma-shaped homogeneous area isodense with water surrounded by a periventricular low-density area. The cause was probably choroid plexitis resulting in obstruction of the cerebrospinal fluid pathway at the atrium. External drainage followed by shunt emplacement is indicated.

We have examined 6 patients with delayed cerebral necrosis following irradiation of extracranial neoplasms. Four of the 6 patients received 1,760 rets (or less) tumor dose. The initial symptoms attributable to radiation necrosis appeared 4 to 31 months after irradiation and were those of a focal supratentorial mass. Neurological complications are not usually considered among the most important complications that may appear after allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (BMT). We have analyzed the occurrence of neurological manifestation in 27 recipients of allogeneic BMT. Ten patients (37%) developed neurological symptoms, and 14 episodes were registered.
