Fluoroquinolones (FQs) are a class of antibiotics with emerging concern. This study investigated the photochemical properties of two representative FQs, i.e., norfloxacin (NORF) and ofloxacin (OFLO). Results showed that both FQs could sensitize the photo-transformation of acetaminophen under UV-A irradiation, during which excited triplet state (3FQ*) was the main active species. Diglycyl triperoxodivanadate [V2O2(O2)3(Gly H)2(H2O)2], a synthetic compound with mu-peroxo-bridge derived from H2O2 and vanadate, oxidized bromide to a bromination-competent intermediate in phosphate buffer and physiological pH. High levels (microg/g lw) of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were measured in peregrine falcon eggs from California (n = 90 eggs from 52 birds, 38 nest sites, collected 1986-2007, SigmaPBDEs median = 4.53, range = 0.08-53.1). A velocity imaging technique combined with (2+1) resonance-enhanced multiphoton ionization (REMPI) is used to detect the primary Br((2)P(3/2)) fragment in the photodissociation of o-, m-, and p-dibromobenzene at 266 nm. Natural derivatives of indole-3-carbaldehyde were isolated from the tropical marine ascidian Stomoza murravi. A series of 13 derivatives, three natural and 10 synthetic (brominated and N-methylated), were examined for their effects on cell division of sea urchin eggs.
