Ebstein's anomaly is a congenital malformation characterised by tricuspid valve pathology with right heart enlargement. Cases of Ebstein's anomaly can vary widely in severity, anatomy and presentation. In this article, we presented three cases of Ebstein's anomaly and discussed the presentation as well as electrocardiographic (ECG) changes. Patients may first present to their primary care physicians with cardiac symptoms such as reduced effort tolerance together with an abnormal ECG. ECG changes suggestive of right heart enlargement are important in the initial consideration and eventual forma

Herein, we report a case of a 27-year-old man with Ebstein's anomaly and a history of unexplained recurrent venous thrombosis despite adequate anticoagulation. After surgical correction of the Ebstein's anomaly, the venous thromboembolic events did not recur. This case demonstrates the possible etiopathogenesis of Ebstein's anomaly in causing recurrent venous thromboembolism, which is likely caused through impedance of venous blood flow. Our objective in presenting this particular case is to highlight the possible association between Ebstein's anomaly and venous thrombosis.

OBJECTIVE: Ebstein's anomaly remains a relatively ignored disease. Lying in the 'No Man's land' between congenital and valve surgeons, it largely remains inadequately studied. We report our short-term results of treating it as a 'one and a half ventricle heart' and propose that the true tricuspid annulus (TTA) 'Z' score be used as an objective criterion for estimation of 'functional' right ventricle (RV).
METHODS: 22 consecutive patients undergoing surgery for Ebstein's anomaly were studied. Echocardiography was performed to assess the type and severity of the disease, tricuspid annular dimen

Ebstein's anomaly is uncommon. Genetic bases of this congenital heart defect may be related to the mutations in myosin heavy chain 7 and NKX2.5, among others. Asymptomatic patients with Ebstein's anomaly can be conservatively treated and kept under close follow-up, whereas surgical operation is indicated for those patients with evidence of right heart dilation and progressively impaired ventricular systolic function. A biventricular repair consisting of the reconstruction of a competent monocuspid tricuspid valve, right ventriculorrhaphy, subtotal atrial septal defect closure, and aggressive r

Ebstein's anomaly (EA) is a rare congenital heart disease. Paradoxical embolism (PDE) may occur in EA due to associated atrial septal defect (ASD). An 18 year old male with EA presented with left lower limb ischemia due to PDE to the limb. No features of cerebral embolism was present. PDE is a potential complication of EA. High level of awareness is needed for early diagnosis of PDE in EA to save a limb in case of embolism to the extremity.

AIMS: The aim of the study was to describe the complex electrophysiological features of accessory pathways (APs) in adult Ebstein's anomaly (EA).
METHODS AND RESULTS: We performed a retrospective study of 17 consecutive adult EA cases with APs who underwent electrophysiological study and radiofrequency catheter ablation (RFCA) from November 2011 to May 2013. There were a total of 24 atrioventricular reentrant tachycardias (AVRTs) due to 23 APs, including 20 (87.0%) non-decremental conducting, 2 (8.7%) decremental conducting, and 1 (4.3%) nodofascicular bundle. Six (6/17 = 35.3%) patients had

OBJECTIVES: This retrospective study assesses the outcomes of a modified Carpentier's technique for Ebstein's anomaly repair in respect to functional and anatomical recovery of the right ventricle and tricuspid valve.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: From August 2005 to December 2010, 52 patients with Ebstein's anomaly were operated in Hanoi Heart Hospital, Vietnam using the modified Carpentier's technique: (1) extensive mobilization of the tricuspid leaflet by detachment of the posterior, septal, and the adjacent part of the anterior leaflet; (2) longitudinal plication of the atrialized chamber and the

Ebstein's anomaly comprises a wide spectrum of congenital cardiac abnormalities involving the tricuspid valve (TV) apparatus and the architecture of the morphological right ventricle (RV). We report a case of Ebstein's anomaly in a 3-year-old boy having a unique association with severe subpulmonic obstruction caused by tethered and dysplastic anterior tricuspid leaflet (ATL), and a large ventricular septal defect. In view of poorly functioning RV, the baby was planned for a bidirectional Glenn shunt with subsequent Fontan completion.

BACKGROUND: Left ventricular (LV) failure is common in Ebstein's anomaly, though remains poorly understood. We investigated whether shape deformity impacts LV function.
METHODS: Three-dimensional models of the right ventricle (RV) and LV from 29 adult Ebstein's patients and nine normal subjects were generated from cardiac magnetic resonance image tracings. LV end diastolic (ED) shape, systolic function, septal motion and ventricular interaction were analyzed.
RESULTS: LV ED volume index was normal in Ebstein's (75 ± 19 vs. 78 ± 11 ml/m(2) in normals, p=0.50) but the LV was basally narrowed a

Ebstein's anomaly is a rare congenital heart disease. An adult patient with Ebstein's anomaly was scheduled for Hetzer's procedure (modified tricuspid valve repair). This 36-year-old female had been diagnosed as Ebstein's anomaly and a patent foramen ovale during pregnancy, and Hetzer's repair procedure for tricuspid valve incompetence and closure of the foramen ovale were performed. The surgical techniques were chosen based on preoperative transthoracic echocardiography and intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography. During the operation, maximal attention was paid to prevent hypoxemia a

BACKGROUND: Ebstein's anomaly involves both the right ventricle (RV) and tricuspid valve.
METHODS: The functional RV and tricuspid orifice were traced from magnetic resonance images in 29 adult Ebstein patients and 9 normal subjects and reconstructed for visualization and measurement of regional RV size, function, and shape at 20 cross sections, and inlet and outflow tract ejection fractions (EFs).
RESULTS: The RV in Ebstein's had RV dilation (end diastolic volume index 179 ± 69 vs. 84 ± 22 ml/m(2) in normals, p<0.001) and global dysfunction (EF 45 ± 8 vs. 55 ± 5% in normals, p<0.001). Longi

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the experience in anesthetic management for correction of Ebstein's anomaly.
METHODS: A total of 79 patients with Ebstein's anomaly who underwent surgical repair in our hospital during the time from March 2004 to September 2010 were retrospectively summarized for their anesthetic management. Anesthesia was done for the patients undergoing correction of Ebstein's anomaly. The adults patients were premedicated with intramuscular morphine 0.2 mg/kg and diazepam 0.05 mg/kg. The children patients were premedicated with intramuscular ketamine 5 - 8 mg/kg and atropine 0.05 -

BACKGROUND: The optimal management strategy for neonates with Ebstein's anomaly is unknown. This analysis was undertaken to assess current trends in the management and prognosis of neonates born with Ebstein's anomaly in the United States, as reflected in an administrative database.
METHODS: The Pediatric Health Information System database (40 children's hospitals) was used to review the reported incidence and available data on neonates with Ebstein's anomaly treated in the United States between 2003 and 2007. Primary outcome was hospital survival. Of the 415 patients identified, 257 (62%) di

We report the case of a child with cor triatriatum dexter masquerading as Ebstein's anomaly on transthoracic echocardiography. This was attributed to a floppy membrane arising from the right atrium, protruding into the tricuspid valve and pushing the leaflets downwards, giving an impression of Ebstein's anomaly. The importance of recognising this pitfall will prevent misdiagnosis of Ebstein's anomaly.

BACKGROUND: Ebstein's anomaly of the tricuspid valve is a complex malformation. Several operations have been undertaken with varying results. The severity of the morphology of the lesion and ventricular function determine the spectrum of surgical techniques that are employed with varying results.
METHODS: Between 1980 and 2005, 45 patients with Ebstein's anomaly underwent surgical repair. Age at operation ranged from 3 to 26 years (median 15.5, mean 18.0 years). In 41 patients (91%), tricuspid valvuloplasty was done. The other four patients had valve replacement with bio-prosthesis. Eight pat

A pulmonary arteriovenous malformation (PAVM) is a rare pulmonary vascular anomaly presenting as dyspnea or recurrent epistaxis. Ebstein's anomaly (EA), a congenital cardiac malformation, is also a rare condition. There have been no reports concerning the co-existence of PAVM with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia (HHT) and EA. A 40-year-old woman was admitted with a 2-month history of increasing dyspnea and several years of recurrent epistaxis. On transthoracic echocardiography, she was diagnosed with EA and agreed to undergo surgical treatment. A chest CT angiography showed a 12-mm serpi

Left ventricular (LV) noncompaction is a congenital dysfunction of endomyocardial morphogenesis characterized by excessively prominent trabeculations and deep intratrabecular recesses of the myocardium. Its association with Ebstein's anomaly is very rare. A 13-year-old boy presented to the outpatient clinic for a cardiac evaluation before enrolling in a sports activity. On physical examination, there was a grade 1/6 systolic murmur at the tricuspid valve location. His electrocardiogram was normal. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed numerous large trabeculations and deep intratrabecular re
