INTRODUCTION: The Orthopaedic In-Training Examination (OITE) is an important metric for orthopaedic residents and residency programs to gauge a resident's orthopaedic knowledge. Because the OITE is correlated with the likelihood of passing part I of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, greater emphasis is being placed on the examination. However, a detailed look at the questions most likely to appear on the spine subsection of the OITE has not been done in the past decade.
METHODS: Digital copies of the OITEs during the years 2017 through 2021 were obtained online through the "ResStudy"

Role-player consistency between candidates is a crucial component of the reliability of the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) format used for clinical skills assessment (CSA). It is particularly important in a high-stakes licensing assessment such as the Membership of the Royal College of General Practitioners' (MRCGP's) CSA. The current organisation of the CSA examination poses particular challenges for child actors. The stringent licensing process for child actors limits the working hours of children aged under 13 years considerably, making it impossible for them to perform in

INTRODUCTION: Studies show that rural health experiences are a major factor in medical students choosing family medicine as a specialty. Interviews of graduates of the Massachusetts Area Health Education Center's (MassAHEC) Rural Health Scholars (RHS) program at the University of Massachusetts Chan Medical School aimed to identify key factors of rural health education that impact family medicine specialty choice.
METHODS: A qualitative study of RHS graduates who either planned to or had matched into family medicine was conducted through thematic analysis of coded transcripts from individual i

To generate robust, demographically-adjusted regression-based norms for the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) using a large sample of diverse older US adults. Baseline MoCA scores were examined for participants in the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (SPRINT). A robust, cognitively-normal sample was drawn from individuals not subsequently adjudicated with cognitive impairment through 4 years of follow-up. Multivariable Beta-Binomial regression was used to model the association of demographic variables with MoCA performance and to create demographically-stratified normative tables.

BACKGROUND: There is growing concern around inappropriate behaviour being perpetrated by under-graduate nursing students towards nursing academics. Coined contra-power harassment, is defined as the harassment of individuals in formal positions of power and authority by those that are not. The type of harassment behaviours reported include: verbal and physical violence, character assassination through social media, stalking and sexually motivated behaviours. The most often cited reasons for the escalation in these behaviours are seen with course progression and the awarding of grades.
AIM: The

Because of the shortage of qualified health care administrators who are members of minority groups, many neighborhood health centers, organized as a result of the Great Society legislation of the 1960's, suffered from their staffs' lack of administrative skills and from rapid turnover as staff members gained experience and moved upward to other jobs. To rectify this shortage, the National Association of Neighborhood Health Centers was funded to offer master's degree programs at the University of Michigan and the University of Southern California. These on job/on campus programs, which began in

BACKGROUND: The increasing use of telemedicine has changed patterns of healthcare delivery and created new educational requirements for medical graduates. However, the extent to which telemedicine competencies have been incorporated into undergraduate medical education remains variable, including in Iran. This narrative review examines the available evidence on telemedicine education, including reported educational benefits, student and graduate awareness and competencies, implementation barriers, and considerations for integrating telemedicine-related competencies into undergraduate medical e

Professional psychology education faces many critical challenges brought about by the major changes occurring in the health care arena. This article shows that professional schools and programs have a good record of responding to these challenges and of taking proactive steps sponding to prepare their graduates for new health care roles and delivery systems. Data on admissions to psychology doctoral training programs demonstrate little support for the toral concerns raised by Donald R. Peterson (2003, this issue) about the preparation of students for graduate training in professional programs.

Ten years ago, a comprehensive series of articles was published in Pediatric Emergency Care detailing the state of pediatric emergency medicine (PEM) fellowship education. We intend to provide an update to the clinical elements of fellowship training, with a companion article to follow that will address the nonclinical domains. This article will summarize the core components of fellowship as mandated by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and review significant changes and challenges to fellowship education that have occurred over the past decade. In light of upcom

Patient advocacy organizations (PAOs) and genetic counseling have expanded in tandem with the growth of precision medicine. Genetic counseling and PAOs share important goals related to advancing genomic medicine, creating novel possibilities for synergistic collaboration, especially as the sheer number of PAOs focused on genetic conditions presents new options for genetic counselor education. While patient advocacy has long been part of genetic counseling education, there are few published reports or studies focused on how advocacy is incorporated into genetic counseling graduate training. BACKGROUND: Newly graduated nurses often experience a transition period marked by reality shock, which can adversely affect their professional retention and career development. However, the associated factors remain incompletely understood, and there is a notable gap in evidence regarding the role of the impostor phenomenon in this context.
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the reality shock among newly graduated nurses and identify its associated factors, with a specific focus on the impostor phenomenon.
METHODS: A cross-sectional design was implemented, and the high-quality reporting of the study

OBJECTIVE: Although persons with lower socioeconomic status (SES) generally have poorer health status for many medical conditions, the association of SES with symptom severity in fibromyalgia (FM) is unknown. The subjective symptoms of FM may be influenced by personal perceptions, and environmental and psychosocial factors. Therefore SES may influence symptom expression and severity.
METHODS: Data for this cross-sectional analysis were obtained from a real-life prospective cohort of 246 patients with FM categorized according to level of education: high school graduates or less (Group 1; n = 9

BACKGROUND: Effective interprofessional collaboration is essential to high-quality care, yet siloed training, unclear roles, and hierarchical structures frequently undermine teamwork in clinical care environments. Efforts to achieve sustained behavioral change have yielded inconsistent results despite decades of advocacy for interprofessional education. Time constraints, staff turnover, and limited opportunities for shared learning exacerbate these challenges, particularly in high-acuity settings.
OBJECTIVES: We developed the Strengthening Minds by Leveraging Education (SMiLESM) program to ad

PURPOSE: Due to the scope of practice of speech-language pathology (SLP) expanding considerably in recent times, there is reduced emphasis on certain communication conditions within the curricula of SLP university programs. Stuttering and cluttering are neglected components of such curricula, despite the complex clinical skill set required to work with these client groups. Evaluation of the content and quality of modules on stuttering and cluttering is warranted to ensure that SLP students are graduating with adequate competence and confidence for supporting people with these conditions. BACKGROUND: Experiencing bullying as a new graduate RN is considered a rite of passage by some in the nursing profession. However, such behaviors erode new nurses' self-confidence, hinder their professional development, and can negatively affect patient outcomes. Research links workplace incivility and bullying to increased medication errors, patient falls, and greater hospital costs. Within a large, comprehensive cancer center, high rates of these behaviors have been reported, yet staff education on their impact remains limited.
PURPOSE: This quality improvement project aimed to reduce bully

Graduate medical education and training in Cytopathology faced numerous unexpected challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic of 2020. It was caused by the SARS-Co-V2 coronavirus and transmitted by breathing droplets or aerosol particles containing the virus and less commonly by contact with infected surfaces and fomites. To mitigate the rapid spread of disease non-essential services were closed, surgical procedures were prioritized, and "social distancing" was implemented. These measures led to a marked decline in the volume of specimens, number of fine needle aspiration (FNA) and rapid on-site
