Lymphoedema-distichiasis syndrome, a type of familial lymphoedema praecox, is a rare, primary lymphoedema of pubertal onset associated with distichiasis and other associations including congenital heart disease, ptosis, varicose veins, cleft palate, and spinal extradural cysts. We report a case of familial lymphoedema with associated distichiasis, atrial septal defect, varicose veins, and recurrent abortions in a 29-year-old female.

PURPOSE: To determine the effect of chronic topical use of prostaglandin analogs for glaucoma on lower eyelid tension.
METHODS: A prospective case-control study was performed. Trichotillomania is a relatively common cause of childhood alopecia. We report our observations of 10 children with trichotillomania seen over a 2-year period at Texas Children's Hospital. Patient ages ranged from 9 to 14 years (mean: 11.3 years) with an equal gender ratio. The duration of hair-pulling ranged from 1 month to 10 years (median: 4.6 months). Frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) is a cicatricial alopecia that affects mainly postmenopausal women. It is typically characterized by recession of frontotemporal hairline. Hair loss of eyebrows, eyelashes, axillae, limbs, and pubic area may be observed. Here, we describe a case of FFA in a male patient presenting with only localized loss of sideburns. Skin biopsy findings were consistent with lichen planopilaris. To our knowledge, this is the only reported case of FFA patient with only localized loss of sideburns.

A 3-year-old Arab boy with a history of hypoplastic left heart syndrome was referred to the pediatric dermatology clinic at Sheba Medical Center for evaluation of hypomelanosis, manifested by fair skin pigmentation and silvery-grey hair, eyebrows, and eyelashes. The child had one older brother with similar hypopigmentation and another older brother who had died of congenital heart disease. The child had no history of neurologic deficits or immunodeficiency and no additional findings on clinical evaluation.

CASE REPORT: A 16-year-old female patient initially presented with bilateral swelling and redness of the eyelids already existing for the duration of two days. The symptoms had started after the patient dyed her eyelashes and eyebrows with henna.
THERAPY: Systemic antihistamine and glucocorticoid therapy led to no visible improvement. An intravenous antibiotic treatment was started which resolved the symptoms entirely.
CONCLUSION: The diagnosis of an allergic contact dermatitis with a secondary bacterial infection was made.

A 70-year-old woman came to ophthalmology outpatient department with complaints of repeated episodes of itching, redness and watering in both eyes of 3 months duration. She was treated with antibiotics elsewhere but had no improvement. Slit lamp examination showed lice and nits anchored to the eyelashes. Light microscopic examination of the matted eye lashes and crusts further helped in identification of the ectoparasites as Phthirus pubis (Pubic louse or Crab louse) with typical morphology.

Demodex folliculorum is a saprophytic mite of the human pilosebaceous unit with a prelidiction for facial skin and eyelashes. Infestation occurs frequently without symptoms; however, suppurative or granulomatous inflammation may be seen with high mite density. Skin lesions, such as rosacea, pityriasis, and blepharitis, have been attributed to Demodex; however, its role in sebaceous adenoma (SA) has not been reported in extensively searched medical literature. We report this rare case and review the skin lesions associated with Demodex folliculorum.

A 12-year-old boy born of a nonconsanguineous marriage presented with dry rough skin and photophobia since birth. His growth and developmental milestones were normal and there was no history of any neurological problem, hearing deficit or scarring around the hair follicles. Cutaneous examination revealed diffuse thinning of scalp hair with loss of eyebrows and eyelashes and a sandpapery texture of the skin all over the body, suggestive of ichthyosis follicularis with alopecia and photophobia syndrome.

Mandibulofacial dysostosis (Treacher Collins syndrome) is associated with clinical abnormalities of structures derived from the first and second branchial arches, including antimongoloid slant of palpebral fissures, colobomas of the lower eyelid, eyelash malformations, and malar and mandibular defects. We describe an unusual clinical feature associated with colobomas of the lower eyelids, in a patient with mandibulofacial dysostosis, successfully treated with botulinum toxin and subsequent surgery.

IMPORTANCE: Baricitinib is an oral selective Janus kinase 1/2 inhibitor that has achieved clinically meaningful outcomes for scalp, eyebrow, and eyelash hair regrowth in patients with severe alopecia areata (AA) at week 36 of treatment. Treatment with baricitinib, 4 mg, has resulted in higher response rates than baricitinib, 2 mg, at weeks 36 and 52.
