Gastric ulcer is an illness that affects a great number of people worldwide. The goal of the present research was to assess the anti-ulcerogenic activity of nymphayol (NYM), isolated from Nymphaea stellata, against an ethanol-induced ulcer model in rats. Administration of ethanol elevates the levels of the ulcer index (UI) along with causing tremendous increases in lipid peroxidation and myeloperoxidase (MPO) and significant decreases in gastric mucus, catalase (CAT), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH), glutathione peroxidase (GPx), and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2). However, the NYM- (45

This study involved developing a novel lemon flower-scented white tea (LT) through multiple aroma-imparting cycles, and taking an integrated approach to investigating its flavour formation mechanism. Sensory evaluation and electronic tongue analysis revealed that the LT exhibited more balanced taste characteristics, with significantly reduced bitterness and astringency, attributed to the decreased caffeine content and conversion of esterified catechins. Electronic nose and HS-SPME/GC-MS results confirmed that the LT had acquired a distinctive aroma characterised by floral and citrus notes, pri

Western flower thrips (WFT) Frankliniella occidentalis cause extensive damage to crops either by direct feeding injury or by transmitting diseases. Current management strategies against this pest rely heavily on synthetic insecticides, leading to issues such as resistance development and environmental concerns. Several safer alternatives including RNA interference (RNAi), also referred to as post-transcriptional gene silencing (PTGS), are being extensively researched to develop species-specific molecular pesticides for the management of this pest. However, the success of RNAi depends on the se

Japanese flowering cherry (Prunus serrulata Lindl.) is a deciduous tree with great decorative value due to its splendid spring bloom. Flowering cherry is native to East Asia and is cultivated in many other parts of the world. Two trees with virus-like symptoms on leaves, denoted by S14 and S27, were found in the town of Sochi, Russia. Virome analysis of these trees using high-throughput sequencing revealed the presence of several viruses, including little cherry virus 2 (LChV-2), American plum line pattern virus (APLPV), and cherry virus A (CVA) in the S14 tree, as well as CVA, prune dwarf vir

Histone demethylases have been extensively characterized in plants, yet how their enzymatic activities are regulated remains largely unknown. Here, we identify that MBD8, a protein harboring a putative methyl-CpG-binding domain (MBD), forms a protein complex with the histone demethylase LDL2 in Arabidopsis thaliana. In this complex, MBD8 functions as a cofactor that is required for efficient LDL2-mediated removal of mono- and di-methylation at histone H3 (H3K4me1 and H3K4me2) across the genome. In the Arabidopsis C24 ecotype, loss-of-function mutations in MBD8 and LDL2 result in indistinguisha

Landscape simplification resulting from agricultural intensification threatens biodiversity and ecosystem services on arable land. Semi-natural habitats, such as flower strips, can mitigate these effects by providing habitat and resource diversity and by modifying the microclimate at the agricultural landscape scale. As effective natural enemies in arable fields, ground beetles (Carabidae) play a key role not only in pest regulation, but also in weed control through seed consumption. The study found that FS serve as crucial habitats supporting Carabidae-characterized by a higher Shannon-Wiener

INTRODUCTION: High-concentration delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) products, with limited research, are becoming accessible in a rapidly expanding cannabis market. There is concern about poor labeling accuracy for THC in recreationally available cannabis, which could impact public health and consumer safety. However, coarse and fine-grained data representative of the scope of legal-market cannabis products have not been reported. This project aimed to investigate THC labeling discrepancies in recreational cannabis flower products and extend examinations to the accuracy of representative canna

Malus 'Praire Rose' (MPR) stands out for its unique rose-like appearance and floral scent (FS) with potential applications in the fragrance industry. Despite limited exploration at the molecular level, this study investigated the FSs production mechanism in MPR across four flower developmental stages using metabolomics and transcriptomics. Results revealed that the predominant FSs in MPR flowers were terpenoids (à-Ionone, trans-á-Ionone, geranylacetone, and alpha-farnesene, etc.) and phenolic compounds (phenylethyl alcohol, 2-(4-Methoxyphenyl)ethanol, etc.). The highest concentration and diver

The photoperiod is a key environmental factor regulating flowering in the short-day plant chrysanthemum, and the molecular mechanisms of key genes responding to short-day conditions remain incompletely elucidated. This study focused on CmELF4-LIKE 3, a chrysanthemum homolog of the core photoperiod-sensing gene EARLY FLOWERING 4 (ELF4). CmELF4-LIKE 3 displayed circadian expression patterns under both long-day (LD) and short-day (SD) conditions, peaking 8 h after dawn, with significantly higher expression under SD than LD. The gene was highly expressed in stems and leaves, and subcellular locali

The remarkable variation in floral form and size is thought to have driven the evolutionary radiation of angiosperms and has traditionally been attributed to pollinator-mediated selection on floral displays, yet emerging evidence indicates that abiotic environmental factors can also generate and filter variation in flower size. Here, we investigate the geographic variation in reproductive organ growth in the self-fertilising species Arabidopsis thaliana, where the loss of pollinator dependence is predicted to favour reduced floral investment through resource reallocation. We find extensive var

Flower rot of passion fruit, caused by Rhizopus stolonifer, is an emerging disease that threatens commercial cultivation by reducing yield and fruit quality. Here, we present a chromosome-level genome assembly of R. stolonifer isolate PRFJ02, generated using PacBio HiFi sequencing combined with Hi-C chromatin conformation capture. The assembled genome spans 48.2 Mb across 11 chromosomes, with 98.9% completeness, and encodes 11,737 protein-coding genes. Functional annotation revealed a diverse repertoire of genes involved in metabolism, signal transduction, and protein processing, reflecting th

Achieving optimal flowering time is a pivotal factor in precision plant breeding. Here, in maize, we characterized an EMS-induced additive delayed-flowering mutant, edf1. edf1 and its heterozygotes are late-flowering under both long- and short-day photoperiods in the field, and harbor a splice-donor mutation in ALTERED PHLOEM DEVELOPMENT (APL). This mutation leads to the accumulation of the minor APL-β transcript, a splice variant expressed across a large natural maize population. Expression of the major splice variant APL-α is associated with flowering initiation; APL knockdown delays floweri

Dendrophthora is a genus of stem-parasitic plants that are commonly known as mistletoes. It exhibits a notable morphological similarity to Phoradendron, which makes differentiation difficult. Traditionally, the two genera are grouped within the tribe Phoradendreae. Molecular analyses have called into question the monophyly of each genus but confirm the monophyly of Phoradendreae. The unique distinction between genera is the number of locules in the anther. However, this feature introduces uncertainties when defining the two genera. Therefore, this study examines the development and floral morp

In this study, carbon dots derived from paulownia flowers (PF-CDs) were synthesized and utilized as a nanosensor for the highly sensitive detection of paclobutrazol (PBZ) pesticide residue. The study reports the first green synthesis of PF-CDs using biological waste from PF through a simple one-step hydrothermal method. PF-CDs exhibited exceptional photostability, low cytotoxicity, and excellent biocompatibility, making them suitable for biological applications. Moreover, PF-CDs exhibited excellent sensitivity for detecting PBZ pesticides. A strong linear correlation (R2 > 0.99) was observed b
