Advancing the identification of toxic by-products in disinfected water by integrating effect-directed analysis and nontarget screening.

The disinfection of drinking water inevitably generates disinfection by-products (DBPs), potentially jeopardizing human health. While previous research has mainly focused on risk from regulated DBPs, recent studies have indicated that these known compounds can only explain a small fraction of toxicity observed in disinfected water. Identifying toxic DBPs is therefore a critical step forward. Effect-directed analysis (EDA) has emerged as a promising tool for identifying the toxicity drivers in complex mixtures. Here, we examined the potential and challenges of applying EDA to identify toxic DBP

Nanosecond Pulsed Electric Fields (nsPEFs) for Precision Intracellular Oncotherapy: Recent Advances and Emerging Directions.

Intracellular targeting is the missing dimension in contemporary oncology, and nanosecond pulsed electric fields (nsPEFs) uniquely aim to deliver it. By charging membranes on sub-microsecond timescales, nsPEF bypasses plasma-membrane shielding to porate organelles, collapse mitochondrial potential, perturb ER calcium, and transiently open the nuclear envelope. This mechanism reprograms malignant fate while preserving tissue architecture. This review synthesizes the most recent evidence to frame nsPEF as a programmable intracellular therapy, mapping mechanistic design rules that link pulse widt

Recent advances in feeder-free NK cell expansion as a future direction of adoptive cell therapy.

Adoptive cell therapy has progressed rapidly following the success of CAR-T therapy, with NK cells emerging as strong candidates for next-generation treatments. NK cells naturally recognize abnormal cells without genetic modification and do not cause graft-versus-host disease, making them suitable for mass production from donor blood. Traditional NK cell expansion often relies on cancer-derived feeder cells, posing safety and quality concerns. This review examines both feeder cell-based and feeder-free NK cell culture methods. We analyze the limitations of feeder-based approaches and categoriz

Advancing precision medicine in immune checkpoint blockade for HIV/AIDS: Current strategies and future directions.

Acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS)/human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) patients experience significant increase in their survival and decline in the mortality with the advent of antiretroviral therapy (ART). Nonetheless, ART alone still cannot completely cure AIDS/HIV patients. Furthermore, the virus remains latent in resting CD4+T cells for extended periods, posing a continuous threat to AIDS/HIV patients. Immune checkpoint blockades (ICBs), as a promising immunotherapy, inaugurate new pathways for AIDS/HIV cure or remission given their capability to break down the latency limit of HIV,
