The value of diffusion kurtosis imaging and dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging in the differential diagnosis of parotid gland tumors.

BACKGROUND: Parotid gland tumors (PGTs) are the most common benign tumors of salivary gland tumors. However, the diagnostic value of relative values of dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) parameters for PGTs has not been extensively studied. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of combined DKI and DCE-MRI for differentiating PGTs by introducing the concept of relative value. METHODS: The DCE-MRI and DKI imaging data of 142 patients with PGTs between June 2018 and August 2022 were collected. Patients

Reduced cerebrospinal fluid motion in patients with Parkinson's disease revealed by magnetic resonance imaging with low b-value diffusion weighted imaging.

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease is characterized by dopamine-responsive symptoms as well as aggregation of α-synuclein protofibrils. New diagnostic methods assess α-synuclein aggregation characteristics from cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and recent pathophysiologic mechanisms suggest that CSF circulation disruptions may precipitate α-synuclein retention. Here, diffusion-weighted MRI with low-to-intermediate diffusion-weightings was applied to test the hypothesis that CSF motion is reduced in Parkinson's disease relative to healthy participants. METHODS: Multi-shell diffusion weighted MRI (spatial

Associations between patterns of diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging and long-term outcomes in acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion.

BACKGROUND: Acute encephalopathy with biphasic seizures and late reduced diffusion (AESD) is a common pediatric acute encephalopathy characterized by biphasic seizures and development of a bright tree appearance (BTA) on diffusion-weighted MR imaging (DWI). Lesion extent and distribution have been linked to neurological prognosis, but the effects of lesion depth remained unclear. METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 25 children with AESD onset between 1991 and 2022. Acute-phase magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (4-14 days after onset) was evaluated using DWI. Lesions in 10 cerebral regions wer

Role of diffusion weighted imaging, apparent diffusion coefficient and magnetic resonence perfusion among acute ischemic stroke patient.

Acute ischemic stroke requires quick identification of infarct core and salvageable tissue for proper management. MRI techniques, including diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) mapping and MR perfusion, provide essential early physiologic information. A study conducted at Santosh Medical College Hospital involved 60 patients presenting within 24 hours of neurological symptoms. The results showed DWI and ADC reliably detected restricted diffusion, while MR perfusion highlighted perfusion abnormalities. The findings enhance stroke evaluation by demonstrating the

Unilateral involuntary movements of the limbs with caudate nucleus restricted diffusion on magnetic resonance imaging: A case report.

Anti-leucine-rich glioma-inactivated-1 (LGI1) autoimmune encephalitis is one of the most prevalent forms of autoantibody-associated limbic encephalitis. Brain magnetic resonance imaging of patients with anti-LGI1 encephalitis often presents as fluid-attenuated inversion recovery hyperintensities of the medial temporal lobe. We report the case of a man in his early 60s who suddenly experienced involuntary movement of the right limbs. Brain magnetic resonance imaging revealed normal T1 signal and T2 hyperintensity in the left caudate nucleus, with corresponding fluid-attenuated inversion recover

Characterizing Typhoon-related Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Based on Multimodal Fusion of Structural, Diffusion, and Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

Diagnosing posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) using only single-modality images is controversial. We aimed to use multimodal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) combining structural, diffusion, and functional MRI to possibly provide a more comprehensive viewpoint on the decisive characteristics of PTSD patients. Typhoon-exposed individuals with (n = 26) and without PTSD (n = 32) and healthy volunteers (n = 30) were enrolled. Five MRI features from three modalities, including two resting-state functional MRI (rs-fMRI) features (amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation, ALFF; and regional homogenei

Default Mode Network quantitative diffusion and resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging correlates in sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease.

Grey matter involvement is a well-known feature in sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD), yet precise anatomy-based quantification of reduced diffusivity is still not fully understood. Default Mode Network (DMN) areas have been recently demonstrated as selectively involved in sCJD, and functional connectivity has never been investigated in prion diseases. We analyzed the grey matter involvement using a quantitatively multi-parametric MRI approach. Specifically, grey matter mean diffusivity of 37 subjects with sCJD was compared with that of 30 age-matched healthy controls with a group-wise
