OBJECTIVES: We investigated the outcomes of a fenestrated frozen elephant trunk (FET) technique performed without reconstruction of one or more supra-aortic vessels for aortic repair in patients with acute type A aortic dissection.
METHODS: We investigated 22 patients who underwent the fenestrated FET technique for acute type A aortic dissection at our hospital between December 2017 and April 2020. Orthologs of human glucocorticoid receptor (GR) and human mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) first appear in cartilaginous fishes. Subsequently, the MR and GR diverged to respond to different steroids: the MR to aldosterone and the GR to cortisol and corticosterone. OBJECTIVE: We aim to present a novel surgical technique of Frozen Elephant Trunk (FET) to treat complex thoracic aortic diseases in one stage and report its short-term outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Chronic type A aortic dissection (cTAAD) in Marfan syndrome (MFS) is rare. Surgical experience is limited and the role of frozen elephant trunk (FET) technique remains undefined. We seek to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the total arch replacement (TAR) and FET technique for cTAAD in MFS.

We here describe a complex case of a 75-year-old man presenting with contained rupture of an aortic arch aneurysm in the presence of a second thoracic aortic aneurysm. He was managed with emergent total arch replacement with frozen elephant trunk. Another stent-graft was used to achieve hemostasis at the distal anastomosis. He later underwent TEVAR extension to manage his second aneurysm in a staged fashion. This case demonstrates a number of important concepts in the evolving interaction between open and endovascular therapies of the aortic arch, particularly in the emergent setting.

OBJECTIVES: Our goal was to report our preliminary results in patients with acute complicated Type B aortic dissection without a suitable landing zone for primary thoracic endovascular aortic repair who were treated with the frozen elephant trunk (FET) technique.

INTRODUCTION: Surgical approach of multisegmental pathology of the thoracic aorta, namely aortic arch / descending aorta is challenging. The Frozen Elephant Trunk (FET) has good results, with acceptable risk. However, in the subgroup of patients (pts) older than 75 years and with important comorbidities, the surgical risk is very high.
OBJECTIVES: Review short-term results of this original, simplified and potentially hybrid technique developed in our Department for this subgroup of patients.

This study evaluated the morphology and elemental composition of Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) bones (humerus, radius, ulna, femur, tibia, fibula and rib).
