Enhancing MMR vaccination surveillance in England: Comparing and contrasting new individual-level and existing aggregate data sources.

INTRODUCTION: Cover of Vaccination Evaluated Rapidly (COVER), ImmForm's early childhood baseline (ImmForm), and the Immunisation Information System (IIS) are data sources used by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) to monitor vaccinations in England. MMR vaccination statistics from these sources are publicly available; however, their concordance is currently unverified. This risks ambiguous and contradictory reporting by national and local health users, which could impact outbreak analysis, interventions, and efforts to reduce vaccination inequalities. This study quantifies the statistical c

Data resource profile: the Edinburgh Child Protection Dataset - a new linked administrative data source of children referred to Child Protection paediatric services in Edinburgh, Scotland.

INTRODUCTION: Child maltreatment affects a substantial number of children. However current evidence relies on either longitudinal studies, which are complex and resource-intensive, or linked data studies based on social services data, which is arguably the tip of the iceberg in terms of children who are maltreated. Reliable, linked, population-level data on children referred to services due to suspected abuse or neglect will increase our ability to examine risk factors for, and outcomes following, abuse and neglect. OBJECTIVE: The objective of this project was to create a linkable population

Available data sources to estimate adolescent birthrates in Mexico: a users' guide.

BACKGROUND: Research, policymakers, and advocacy groups rely on valid estimates of adolescent births to inform their work. Estimates of births among very young adolescents (10-14 years old) are especially lacking. METHODS: We compared adolescent fertility rates in Mexico across the census, population-based surveys, civil registration, and birth certificates. We calculate live birth rates among very young adolescents (VYA; 10-14 and 12-14) and older adolescents (15-19) in Mexico, at national and state levels, and by year (2008-2019). We compare estimates with official reconciled data from the

Prevalence of opioid dependence in New South Wales, Australia, 2014-16: Indirect estimation from multiple data sources using a Bayesian approach.

AIMS: To estimate the prevalence of, and number of unobserved people with opioid dependence by sex and age group in New South Wales (NSW), Australia. DESIGN: We applied a Bayesian statistical modelling approach to opioid agonist treatment records linked to adverse event rate data. We estimated prevalence from three types of adverse event separately: opioid mortality, opioid-poisoning hospitalizations and opioid-related charges. We extended the model and produced prevalence estimates from a 'multi-source' model based on all three types of adverse event data. SETTING, PARTICIPANTS AND MEASUREM

Unplanned readmission after surgery for spinal metastases: The influence of data source on a surgical oncology quality indicator - A systematic review and descriptive meta-analysis.

Surgery for spinal metastases represents a complex intervention at the intersection of oncology, neurosurgery, and orthopaedics, performed in patients with advanced systemic disease and limited physiological reserve. Unplanned hospital readmission has emerged as an important quality indicator in surgical oncology, reflecting both perioperative care quality and the trajectory of underlying malignancy. We conducted the first systematic review and descriptive meta-analysis of readmission incidence and risk factors in this population. Five databases were searched (January 2010-March 2026); 14 coho

CohortDiagnostics: Phenotype evaluation across a network of observational data sources using population-level characterization.

OBJECTIVE: This paper introduces a novel framework for evaluating phenotype algorithms (PAs) using the open-source tool, Cohort Diagnostics. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The method is based on several diagnostic criteria to evaluate a patient cohort returned by a PA. Diagnostics include estimates of incidence rate, index date entry code breakdown, and prevalence of all observed clinical events prior to, on, and after index date. We test our framework by evaluating one PA for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and two PAs for Alzheimer's disease (AD) across 10 different observational data sources.

Review of Mother-Infant Linkage Algorithms in Health Care Data Sources.

INTRODUCTION: Studies that use health care data to assess infant outcomes following maternal medication use in pregnancy require linkage of maternal and infant records. While such linkage is increasing among established and emerging data sources, linkage methods are heterogeneous and have not been thoroughly reviewed or evaluated to inform fitness for use. The objective of this study was to describe methods used to link maternal and infant records in health care databases for pharmacoepidemiology research. METHODS: Multiple Medline searches were conducted using structured terms and known moth

Lessons learned from a multi-data source research collaboration: The mirabegron post-authorization safety study program.

BACKGROUND: Many factors contribute to developing and conducting a successful multi-data source, non-interventional, post-authorization safety study (NI-PASS) for submission to multiple health authorities. Such studies are often large undertakings; evaluating and sharing lessons learned can provide useful insights to others considering similar studies. OBJECTIVES: We discuss challenges and key methodological and organizational factors that led to the delivery of a successful post-marketing requirement (PMR)/PASS program investigating the risk of cardiovascular and cancer events among users of

Quality analysis of publicly available information about hypoplastic left heart syndrome.

PURPOSE: Publicly available health information is increasingly important for patients and their families. While the average US citizen reads at an 8th-grade level, electronic educational materials for patients and families are often advanced. We assessed the quality and readability of publicly available resources regarding hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). METHODS: We queried four search engines for "hypoplastic left heart syndrome", "HLHS", and "hypoplastic left ventricle". The top 30 websites from searches on Google, Yahoo!, Bing, and Dogpile were combined into a single list. Duplicat

Evaluation of multiple data sources for predicting increased need for HIV prevention among cisgender women: understanding missed opportunities for Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP).

BACKGROUND: Ciswomen constitute a disproportionately low percentage of pre-exposure prophylaxis for HIV prevention (PrEP) users compared to men. Despite PrEP's effectiveness, women are 5.25 times less likely to take PrEP than men. Identifying women who have increased reasons for HIV prevention and educating and offering PrEP to these women is crucial to reducing HIV transmission and overall health equity. However, the best method of identifying women at highest risk of acquiring HIV remains unknown. This study aimed to identify common HIV risk factors and data sources for identifying these com

Caregiver experiences and perceptions of childhood vaccination information and messaging - a qualitative study in the urban informal settlements of Nairobi, Kenya.

BACKGROUND: Despite overall progress in childhood vaccination, disparities remain across socioeconomic groups, with children from low-income communities experiencing lower coverage rates. Vaccination communication plays an important role in building trust and enhancing knowledge and awareness about the importance of vaccination. Vaccination communication strategies can shape how caregivers interpret or act on immunization messages. Previous evidence highlights gaps in vaccination messaging, especially in low-resource settings. Developing effective messaging requires careful consideration of ca

Comparison of paediatric infectious disease deaths in public sector health facilities using different data sources in the Western Cape, South Africa (2007-2021).

BACKGROUND: Routinely collected population-wide health data are often used to understand mortality trends including child mortality, as these data are often available more readily or quickly and for lower geographic levels than population-wide mortality data. However, understanding the completeness and accuracy of routine health data sources is essential for their appropriate interpretation and use. This study aims to assess the accuracy of diagnostic coding for public sector in-facility childhood (age < 5 years) infectious disease deaths (lower respiratory tract infections [LRTI], diarrhoea,

Postoperative complications after surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis, assessment using two different data sources.

PURPOSE: Lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a prevalent disorder, and surgery for LSS is a common procedure. Postoperative complications occur after any surgery and impose costs for society and costs and additional morbidity for patients. Since complications are relatively rare, medical registries of large populations may provide valuable knowledge. However, recording of complications in registries can be incomplete. To better estimate the true prevalence of complications after LSS surgery, we reviewed two different sources of data and recorded complications for a sample of Norwegian LSS patients
