Cystic adenomatoid malformation is a rare pulmonary hamartomatous lesion, of an unknown etiology. Report a singular case of CAM of one newborn, with marked respiratory distress. Using different method (chest X-ray, Multidetector row CT associated at multiplanar and three-dimensional reconstructions), we obtained an accurate diagnosis of site and nature, critical for a correct therapeutic approach.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of thin overlapping reconstruction on the attenuation of small (< or =3 cm) renal cysts in the nephrographic phase of multidetector CT (MDCT).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We scanned a phantom kidney containing spheres of various sizes (10, 20, and 30 mm) using both 4- and 16-channel MDCT scanners, and reconstructed images with various slice thickness (T, mm) and intervals (I, mm). The attenuation increase (AI) was measured for each sphere in 240-HU diluted solution of contrast material and compared with the attenuation in 35-HU solution.

Oxygen tension (pO2) in rat renal cortex and outer medulla was studied after an intravenous injection of mannitol or furosemide, followed 10 minutes later by an intravenous injection of the non-ionic X-ray contrast medium (CM) iopromide (370 mg iodine/ml). Ten minutes after mannitol injection, before injection of CM, pO2 in the medulla had decreased from a control level of 32 +/- 3 to 28 +/- 4 mm Hg. OBJECTIVE: Accurate prenatal diagnosis of congenital diaphragmatic hernia is important for perinatal planning and potential fetal surgery. We describe the application and usefulness of helical CT amniography in the evaluation of suspected congenital diaphragmatic hernia in three fetuses.
CONCLUSION: Helical CT amniography is an efficient means for evaluation of congenital diaphragmatic hernia. Accurate diagnosis was made in all three patients.

Since January 1983, 431 patients were examined by oral or rectal application of nonionic contrast medium for gastrointestinal studies. The contrast medium was uniformly well tolerated, even by severely ill preterm babies and infants. We present a review of our experience and a list of indications for the use of nonionic contrast media in gastrointestinal studies. In addition, the urinary iodine concentration of eight patients was examined after oral application of nonionic contrast medium in order to evaluate the resorption of the substance.
