Theory-informed storytelling for leadership learning in undergraduate nursing education: A qualitative study of first-year nursing students.

BACKGROUND: Leadership is increasingly recognized as a core competency in nursing practice and education. However, leadership education is often introduced in the later stages of undergraduate nursing programs, leaving students uncertain about how leadership applies to clinical practice. Innovative pedagogical approaches are therefore needed to support early leadership development. Storytelling may provide opportunities for students to engage with authentic professional experiences, reflect on leadership behaviours, and connect leadership concepts with future nursing practice. OBJECTIVES: Thi

[Nursing Experiences Applying Swanson's Caring Theory to Assist a Family Confronting the Impact of an Infant With CHARGE Syndrome].

The purpose of this study was to explore the experiences of nurses who applied Swanson's Caring Theory to assist coping in a family of an infant with CHARGE Syndrome. The patient was born with multiple organ hypoplasia and was diagnosed using genetic testing with CHARGE syndrome. The shock and sadness, coupled with returning home for care and the long and endless journey of rehabilitation, were the most significant challenges and pressures for the parents when taking care of the patient. The author used interviews, texting apps, and observations to collect data, and completed the recording pro

Exploring the Potential for Smartphone-Based Reflection to Support Socioemotional Competence Development in Student Nurses' Clinical Placement: Mixed Methods Field Trial.

BACKGROUND: Socioemotional competencies (SEC) are essential for nurses to provide quality care and to maintain their own health. Historically underrepresented, nursing programs are changing their curricula to incorporate SEC development more strongly. Although it is recommended to practice SEC during clinical placement, studies on how to support nursing students in developing these competencies are lacking. OBJECTIVE: Our study explores second-year nursing students' perceived and actual use of a reflection tool during their first 20-week clinical placement. Designed to support SEC development

N6-methyladenosine RNA methylation is modulated in aging and age-related diseases.

Alterations in the epigenetic transcriptome are crucial in the aging process and the occurrence of age-related diseases. This study aims to define global RNA methylation patterns in nursing home residents, an aged population with a high burden of age-related health deficits and sharing a common environment. The study was conducted on RNA samples extracted from blood samples of 56 older adults in a nursing home and of 36 young subjects living independently in their own homes. The RNA samples were both used for the quantification of the global methylation levels by ELISA assays and for the evalu

[A study of the process by which a school-age child adapted to body image changes following open-heart surgery].

This case report attempts to explore the adaptive process of body image changes in school-age children suffering from congenital ventricular septal defect (VSD) following open-heart surgery. After establishing trust relationship, we applied atraumatic care, projective communication techniques, interviews, behavioral observation, storytelling and play in our interaction with that child. We found the child experienced "body image disturbance" after open-heart surgery and underwent a four stage adaptive process as follows: (1) Impact (questioning, perception of punishment for wrongdoing, loss, an

A theoretical perspective on planning and implementing pet therapy for older patients with dementia or cognitive impairment in an acute hospital setting.

Evidence and change management often fit together in clinical settings. Evidence alone will not impact the quality of care unless it is carefully led and managed to embed the change in practice. Selecting good quality, relevant evidence that addresses a research question can be used to improve the quality of nursing care, inform new research and develop understanding of a topic. This is useful when seeking to implement policy or new strategies for nursing care. This article discusses various factors that may influence the decision-making process for managing change when seeking to introduce pe

From Theory to Competence: A Conceptual Review of Humanized Care in Community Nursing in the Ecuadorian Context.

Community nursing in Latin America requires a shift from control-oriented biomedical models toward relational and culturally responsive approaches capable of addressing persistent structural inequalities and intercultural complexity. This review develops the Relate-Capacity-Comfort (RCC) framework. This integrated model synthesizes three foundational nursing theories: Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring, Dorothea Orem's Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory, and Katharine Kolcaba's Comfort Theory. The framework conceptualizes community nursing as a sequential process comprising relational engageme

Enteral nutrition for older adults in nursing facilities.

Older adults who reside in nursing facilities tend to be frail and to have multiple comorbidities, increased risk of unintended weight loss, and protein energy malnutrition. Approximately 5.8% of nursing facility residents in the United States receive enteral feedings. The prevalence is higher for residents with cognitive impairment, ranging from 18% to 34%. In cognitively impaired residents, the majority of tube feeding placements occur in the acute care setting and result in significant use of additional healthcare resources and high postinsertion mortality rates within 60 days of insertion.

School Nursing Practice Framework™: The Origin Story and the Data Behind It.

In response to evolving school nurse roles, the National Association of School Nurses (NASN) evaluated and updated its Framework for 21st Century School Nursing Practice™ using a three-phase process that included surveys, qualitative feedback, and interest-holder engagement. Among 878 survey respondents, most (80%) were familiar with the Framework and found it useful for guiding practice. Strong evidence of associations was observed between Framework familiarity and school nurse demographics, including licensure (χ2(3) = 21.51, p< 0.001), years of experience (χ2(4) = 58.03, p<0.001), and certi
